"I don't like the cold", da tenkte e... Hey everyone, well we are here on the south east side on the island of Oahu. Time is just flying by. I can’t believe we are heading back to the mainland in just a couple of days. Hawaii is amazing; we are staying in a rented house in Waimanalo only a 30 second walk from a beautiful quiet sandy beach that stretches for miles in either direction. This is where we spend many of our mornings and evenings. The water is warm with some great waves that make it fantastic for swimming and boogie boarding. Haven’t perfected riding the waves just yet, today I am bruised and scratched all over from being smashed on the sand numerous time’s. It’s all fun though! So, besides hanging on the beach what have we been doing? Well, unfortunately for ... read more

When we first booked our flights with Aloha Airlines, Hyning and I just wanted to 'get away' to the Big Island. With no research or any concrete plans, we booked the cheapest flights available, not realising that we had to wake up at 4am to catch a 6.10am flight to Kona and returned on thanksgiving night to Oahu. We had very little sleep the night before because: (1) Hyning and I could not stop talking at night; (2) I was jet-lagged and would not let her sleep; and (3) when we could finally sleep, Hyning had her alarm clock blaring at 2am local time - it was 4am Cali-time. We arrived at Kona Airport before sunrise. Once we collected our car and drove out of the airport, we realised we were indeed at a volcanic heartland. ... read more

Happy Thanksgiving! We're in our cute little cottage by the sea in Waimanalo. John, mom and I arrived yesterday at 2pm. I of course (typical) spent two before traveling totally sick and spent both flights sniffling and sneezing. But once we landed in Honolulu and the humidity hit (82 degrees) my cold seemed to get better! So anyways, we're spending a quiet day hanging in the house and on the beach by the house. Tomorrow we're off on a hike and up to the North Shore! ... read more

We went on the helicopter trip over the volcano park. The view was excellent. We also went over some waterfalls. Unfortunately the helicopter made both of us feel sick - we don't know why - we have both been in a helicopter before and neither had any problem. We then returned to Oahu for a few days. We had seen the main things we wanted to see there so we spent the time at the beach. Overall I prefered the big island - more variety of scenery, interesting volcano park, quieter. Heather prefered Oahu - better infrastructure, easier to get around. But we both enjoyed both islands a lot. - Matt ... read more

Hawaii - not so much of the sunset behind swaying palm trees, but the mountains, the volcanoes, the beaches and the pipelines... and aloha! After 16 hours and a stopover in Taipei, I arrived... without my luggage. All the way here to Waikiki without a bikini, it's a hopeless start to much anticipated holiday. Flying across the Pacific Ocean and gaining a day, I arrived 1 day before Hyning. For some reason, I always thought we were getting in on the same day. Day 1, I wandered around Waikiki, alone, feeling like I had over-dressed for a beach-party, jet-lagged and disoriented. Good thing that there was a sale going on in Alo Moana, I could always find comfort in retail therapy. I-love-Hawaii tees became my uniform for the next few days, that's if my luggage arrived ... read more

Despite the fact that my visit to Hawaii was a brief transit stop it definitely deserves a special mention. My visit to the land of the free was very memorable. The plane trip to Honolulu was uneventful but very long. We were entertained by quality films such as 'The fantastic four' and yet another Adam Sandler movie that was just like all the other ones! We arrived in Honolulu at 1am because the plane was running late and were informed that everyone had to leave the plane with their carry-on bags and go through American customs and immigration. We were led into the arrivals terminal, downstairs and outside, into an elevator and back inside to the main part of the terminal. The first thing I noticed on exiting the lift into the airport was an American ... read more

Well things continue at a very realxed pace. Meditating and journaling on the lanai with a cocont candle and my honu (turtle). Watching the local "monkeys" climbing the "hotel" palms clipping them so nothing falls on the "guests" i.e. us! Sharks in the pool - no just me experimenting with the new camera - can turn the pool red by playing with the settings on the camera! I'm tempted by the local donorcycle rental but don't want to become an organ donor myself! Then just beaching everyday, sushi or be bim bop for lunch, and glorious sunsets every night. Life is hard.... read more

Since the last update we have done a lot. We went to Diamond Head crater (it is an extinct volcano, there is a tunnel through the side of the crater wall, you go through the tunnel and then climb up the inside to a lookout at the top) - tiring but fun. We also went to Honolulu harbor and went to the maritime center (like a museum). Interesting. We came to the big island on Thursday. Went to see some waterfalls. We then drove to the other side of the island for a few days. We went to some parks and beaches over there. We came back to this side on Monday. Yesterday we visitied the Volcano park. We walked around a lot, looking at the hardended lava, craters etc. In the evening we went to ... read more
