The Deep South TourDaniel Anderson Well it's been quite a while since our last entry, things have been pretty busy but we haven't done any real major traveling. I thought I would use this entry to fill everyone one in on our most recent comings and goings and what we have been up to. It will mostly be to show some of the photos we have taken and I won't bore you with big long winded descriptions of our trip. I recently finished my first semester of Uni which actually went really well. I was quite surprised at the marks I received which were pretty good, but it just goes to show what you can achieve when you actually do some study rather than get on the turps with your Army mates all the time. After leaving Orlando, we headed to Savannah GA because we had heard it was a neat, historic place to check out. We only had a couple days there because we had a hard time finding people on couchsurfing.com to stay with. Wes caught a cold of some sort in Orlando and was really starting to feel sick on our first full day in Savannah, so we rode our bikes into town and walked around a bit. Savannah looks a lot like New Orleans, with the huge trees lining the streets, covered in moss. We went down by the river into this sort of cheesy tourist area, wandered around downtown a little, went to the cemetery, and stopped in the park for a while. But at that point Wes was feeling pretty sick and had a ... read more

Savannah PierceGood Morning .. Good Beautiful Morning! I spent yesterday afternoon and into the night in Savannah Georgia and had the best time since South Beach. The four days of cool cloudy weather cleared up and the sun shined down on the gorgeous green city squares. A few days ago I cleaned up and out of the Piratehaus Inn in Saint Augustine, finished my pirate pancakes and completed one more blog, I chatted with Conrad about the Inn and the old city. On my way out he surprisingly gave me no charge for staying at the Inn because i was a "couch surfer" and I was so grateful. Conrad Matt and Elaine are such fine people, very welcoming, caring, and extremely nice and I will forever thank them for their hospitality. I took a last walk ... read more

Squares - mindre parker mitt i stan. Mycket charmigt - fÃ¥r förhoppningsvis bilder frÃ¥n Nilo snart & dÃ¥ fÃ¥r ni se mer. ... read more

Ok, so I didn’t see any of the sights associated with the book but the title is just too good to pass up. I’ll have to read it again now that I’ve been to Savannah. Somewhere outside of Charleston, the MINI reaches 4,000 miles on the trip. Woohoo! No problems until we get to Savannah. We stay in a flat in a historic building on Lafayette Square—great location with beautiful mid-1800s homes and a church surrounding the square. The back of the inn has parking so I drive down the alley and pull into the parking space but the MINI gets stuck. There’s a dip in grade between the alley and the parking space and the MINI is too low to make it through. Cathy gets out of the car and notices a plastic thing ... read more

Myself and Chris decided that a day trip to Savannah would be a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday. I don't recommend this after having done it. We had pleny of time to see everything, however with the driving and seeing everything.. it was just a bit too much that we asked of ourselves. We arrived into Savannah around 3:30 after our visit to Tybee Island (see other entry). Armed with a map, our first stop was in Forsyth square. This is the biggest square in the town and was full of locals (there is a college nearby) and visitors. There were fields with people playing frisbee, soccer, and other games. There were even tennis and basketball courts. Trees filled with Spanish Moss hung over the sidewalks and monuments honored men from the past. There ... read more

After much ado, the blog is back… The last few weeks have been busy, both Hope and I working as well as two trips (2 for me, 1 for Hope) to Florida to visit the Villages, where my Grandparents live. Hope also took a trip to SC to visit her family. The adventure we took together to Florida was a lot of fun. We were able to spend time with my cousin Rachel, her friend Beth, Uncle Dan and Aunt Teresa. Our schedule was booked solid with sipping cocktails poolside and zipping around the retirement community on their top of the line golf cart. One afternoon we hopped in the Stang and headed south to Lakeland to catch the Detroit Tigers opening of spring training. The Tigers destroyed Florida Southern 14- 0 and we had access ... read more

Since Hope and I have arrived in Savannah we’ve spent most of our free time finding our way around town. We’ve been staring at maps and making wrong turns to locate close by grocery stores, the nearest Sam’s Club, and of course Hope’s hospital. Most of our quest has been for a gym and we’ve finally found one that meets our standards, although it was no easy task as the facilities were either too small or too smelly. We’ve apparently become gym snobs. Our apartment is spacious compared to Tahoe. We actually have adequate closet and cabinet space. It’s located in “Georgetown,” which is on the south side of Savannah. Georgetown isn’t like the charming historical downtown. It’s full of suburban strip malls and apartment complexes. But it’s none the less safe and convenient to the ... read more
