Oh man, I’m a brat because all I can think about is an ice cold Diet Coke! I remember years ago when Carnival announced that they were changing to Pepsi. Jeff and I both agreed we would have to find a different cruise line for that one reason alone. Well, here we sit on Carnival and here I am wanting a Diet Coke. I should probably address this addiction but I just really like Diet Coke. Ok, we move on… Getting to the port and the parking lot wasn’t that hard. We did miss the entrance to the parking garage and had to circle the block but we eventually got there and walked right to the terminal. For some reason the boys were leading the pack and walking ahead of us like they knew what they ... read more

Welcome to Spring Break 2023! Last year we took the kids down to the kids down to 30A. It is a very beautiful area in the Florida Panhandle and this was not our first time vacationing there. For the last 3 years we have taken the boys and their friends to the 30A area. Well, our experience in 2022 was very different than past years. Timmy and his friends wanted to venture to the Seaside area. In the past years we had eaten in the area during the day and shopped around. Didn’t think this Spring Break would be any different. Ha, we were so wrong! We have never felt so unwelcome in an area. It was just a bad experience and we vowed we will never go back to 30A for Spring Break. It was ... read more

We are in warm and breezy Miami. I love it! Our day started at 3am when we left for the Springfield airport. I slept while Kamie drove. We flew from Springfield to Charlotte then on to Miami on American Airlines. This was our first stop through the Charlotte airport and I was surprised at the enormity of this airport. Charlotte is apparently the American Airlines hub. A hub is basically where all AA planes go… so if you fly AA, more than likely, you will have a layover in Charlotte to get you from Point A to Point B. Delta’s hub is Atlanta and United’s hub is San Francisco. Southwest doesn’t have a hub which is why they got into all that trouble last year and thousands of flights were abandoned for days. There’s your flight ... read more

That's right! The boat sailed and I forgot to notify you so you could come aboard. We left without you. What was I thinking?....or not thinking is more like it! My bad! Fortunately, there will be a next time and I will surely alert you with plenty of notice. Mark my word. Pinky swear! Hopefully, some of our pictures will help you to imagine you were onboard.....pretend anyway. A big group of us from Tropical Palms signed up to travel on Carnival’s cruise ship: the Mardi Gras. We left Port Canaveral for a 7 days cruise on February 11th. We traveled to Nassau first. We were supposed to go to Puerto Rico but the itinerary was changed early on. We didn't bother to get off the ship in Nassau as we have been here several times ... read more

Miami is cool. We figured that out the first time we were here, back at the end of 2019 & beginning of 2020. We were in Miami for New Years, which is also our anniversary. We saw Pitbull perform a free concert in the park, found a late-night Afrobeats party, exercised at South Beach's outdoor workout park, and spent a day driving south to Key West. On that trip, we figured out what we were about around here. Everybody talks about Miami Beach, but our favorite spot was actually Wynwood. This time, we were here for an overnight layover due to one of our previous flight's being canceled and forcing us to miss our connection (thanks American Airlines!). We got into the airport around 8:30pm, spoke to the ticketing desk to confirm our hotel booking (care ... read more

Marianna FL – Perdido Key FL Perdido Key Marina & RV Resort Days 16 We took the scenic route from Marianna to Perdido Key. The direct route would have been to take Interstate 10, but Mark & Karen suggested taking Route 231 to Route 98. This route was about an hour longer than taking I10 but much nicer. Route 231 is a nice rolling highway, Route 98, was your typical main roadway through multiple shore towns. I think it was worth the extra hour of travel. Perdido Key Marina & RV Resort is a small resort, with 56 RV sites, and 24 slips. Many people come back year after year. Fellow loopers Jim and Norma, are staying here in a slip. Jim has also taken a job as their Activities Directory. We were very disappointed to ... read more

Gainesville FL – Marianna FL Stay-N-Go Campground Days 14 – 15 Leaving Gainesville, we are heading to Marianna FL to explore the Florida Cavern State Park. We tried to get a camp site in the state park, but the website said there was not any available. We later found out the website does not work, and we should have called. Our second choice was the Stay-N-Go camp site. Stay-N-Go is really a great concept for quick stops. It is a bare bones campground, with full hook ups, and wifi but no other amenities. It is only for self-contained campers. There are no bathrooms or staff on site. The sites are well spaced out, and a concrete pad for the RV, but no fire pit or picnic table. It is good for a night or two, and ... read more

Weeki Wachee FL – Gainesville FL Moochdocking – Steve & Jane (Sabbatical) Days 11 - 13 Leaving Weeki Wachee both RV’s needed to empty our holding tanks and fill up with both gas and propane. Our first stop was a gas station that was not designed for RV’s but was big enough to get into. Planning ahead we did not hook up the jeep, Angel followed us in the Jeep. The second stop was a local RV dealer that had a dump station and bulk propane. It was a wise decision to wait to hook up the Jeep. We had to turn around and backup both to dump and get propane. It was interesting making our way around the parking lot, weaving around very expensive RV’s. Once we finished up at the RV dealer we attached ... read more

Preparing for my departure on Holland America’s 75-day Grand South America and Antarctica Voyage, I was just having a lot of trouble getting excited about my upcoming adventure. On the surface, I thought that my lack of excitement might be because of the short (10-week) interval between my return from the five-month trip to Europe and the 2-1/2-month cruise. I, however, rarely have said, “It was good to be gone, but it’s good to be home.” I would have been more likely to have said, “It was good to be gone. Too bad I couldn’t have stayed longer.” The only time I can think of being glad that my stay hadn’t been longer was upon my return from Vietnam.“We gotta get outta this place, If it’s the last thing we ever do…” Yet again, there was ... read more

A new year has arrived! Happy 2023 everyone. We wish you a happy and healthy New Year. Before we entered this new year, we finished up the old one with many festive and fun times with friends and family. Hop on your faithful time machine (it's been getting quite a workout, I know) and back it up just a little...midway into December will be good. All set? Great....let’s go......Buckle up! Remember the golf cart parade that traveled through Old Town and we ended up being a participant? It was part of our last blog....remember? Anyway....go back if you need a refresher. The holiday parades didn't end with that one. They kept coming....and coming....and coming. A group of us (TP folks) made our way over to the town of Celebration on golf carts. Fortunately, our friend, Ray, ... read more
