Columbia SC – Charlotte NC Carowinds Camp Wilderness Day 46-47 After leaving Columbia SC, we heading to Charlotte NC to visit friends. Our first goal was to find a bike shop to get the tire repaired. Because we got to Charlotte much earlier than we could check into the campground, I decided to go right to the bike shop with the RV. Sometimes it is hard to pick a shop or store based on Google Maps, it will show you how close or far a place is, but it does not tell you the real story. The shop I picked appeared to be the closest bike shop. We did end up passing a small local shop on the way to it, I do not know if we could have gotten there with the RV. Conte’s Bike ... read more

Brunswick GA – Columbia SC Sesquicentennial State Park Day 44-45 We were very sad to leave Brunswick GA, as once again we had to say good bye to Mark & Karen. Who knew that at our first stop on the Great Loop when, Karen asked us to join them and a bunch of other loopers for lunch, we would become such great friends. Over 2000 miles, a month of travel, countless laughs and smiles it is time to part ways, it is not goodbye, but till we meet again. As Mark and Karen head south we are making our way north. Sesquicentennial State Park is in Columbia SC. This is one of two stops on our way to Raleigh NC to spend a weekend with Zach & Rebecca. It is another beautiful state park, with large ... read more

Savannah GA Brunswick GA Blythe Island Region Park Day 42 - 43 We are back at Blythe Island! Mark & Karen wanted to come back to Brunswick, GA and we realized this campground is only 15 minutes from Brunswick. When Angel and I stopped on our way south we did not see much outside of the campground. Once again when I made the reservations I asked for two sites next to each other, and for pull through sites. We were assigned back in sites, very far apart. When we checked in, I asked again and the receptionist said, they were very full but she would try. She was able to move us, and as we went through the campground over fifty percent of the sites were empty. I really do not understand people. Arriving at our ... read more

Jeffersonville GA – Savannah GA Savannah Oaks RV Resort Day 40 - 41 After a short run we arrived at Savannah Oaks RV Resort. It a very nice campground but it is very far from what I would call a resort. To quote Forrest Gump, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.” Campgrounds are the same way. When we book sites, we tell them we are traveling with Mark & Karen and would like to be next to each other. This time we were only two sites apart, but they had open sites right next to each other, sometimes you just can’t figure people out. The other interesting thing with this campground, is they do not have fire rings. You have to rent them. I have never seen ... read more

Stone Mountain GA – Jeffersonville GA Jail Creek Winery Day 39 From Stone Mountain we are making our way to Savannah GA, which is only a five or six hour drive and we could easily do it in one day, but why rush? We started out this trip planning on driving no more than five hours a day. We have not only kept our drive times under that most of the time it has been under three hours. The drive from Stone Mountain to Savannah would take about five hours so we decided to take two days to get there and stop at a Harvest Host for one night. It also gave us time to stop at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. This was our first visit to a Presidential Library and we found ... read more

Chattanooga TN – Stone Mountain GA Stone Mountain Park Campground Days 37 - 38 After another short drive and mostly easy drive we arrived in Stone Mountain GA. I say mostly easy because it has been some time since we have had to deal with city traffic. Stone Mountain is only 16 miles from Atlanta GA, and all of its wonderful traffic. The campground has 325 campsites and several rental trailers and yurts available for rent. Our sites definitely have the best view we have had in a campground yet. Once the motorhome was setup, I worked on getting the TV setup outside before the Eagles –San Francisco playoff game started. It was a great afternoon watching the game, grilling wings and overlooking the lake. At 5:30 we heading over to the base of the mountain, ... read more

Nashville TN – Chattanooga TN Racoon Mountain Caverns & Campground Days 34 -36 First an update to our last blog. I did our blog about Nashville the night before we left, when we woke up it was snowing. We really had hoped to make it through the winter without seeing snow. The snow was really a non-event , by the time we pulled out of the campground the ground was clear. We had hoped to make an uneventful trip to Chattanooga, but no such luck. It should have taken us about two and a half hours to get to go from Nashville to Chattanooga. About half way into the trip, the GPS went from 90 minutes remaining to four plus hours remaining. At the same time Mark & Karen (Who were in front of us), called ... read more

Memphis TN – Nashville TN Nashville RV Resort and Cabins Days 31 - 33 Nashville is another stop on our RV tour that we visited on our Great Loop trip. This time we stayed about 20 minutes from Downtown Nashville, and only came into town once. The drive to Nashville was almost uneventful, until a truck pulling a horse trailer, cut in front of us kicking up a lot of stones. As soon as I felt the first stone I hit the brakes as hard as I dared. Unfortunately for our windshield I did not react quickly enough, we ended up with a dime size chip in the windshield. Both Angel and I were a little upset, but very hopeful that the chip could be repaired. Windshields for RV’s are very expensive. Once we got to ... read more

Red Bay, AL - Memphis TN Graceland RV Park & Resort Days 28--30 Originally we had not planned on going to Memphis, but Nick & Ginger suggested we swing by and check it out. Red Bay was close enough, and a couple of phone calls later we were able to change our reservations and add Memphis to the trip. Right after we made our plans Lisa Marie Presley passed away, and her Memorial Service was scheduled during our visit. Dan & Cherri also changed their plans instead of meeting us in Nashville, they came to Memphis also. When traveling, picking places to eat is always a gamble. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you say, how the hell does this place stay in business. Friday night’s dinner fell into the last category. We probably ... read more

Dutton AL – Red Bay, AL Red Bay Acres Days 25 - 27 Leaving Dutton was bitter sweet, we had a great time with Nick & Ginger and Tom & Celeste but it was time to move on. One way I can tell it is time to move is when I can find my way around without the GPS. During our many excursions we scouted out a better route out of Dutton. Our RV GPS app does not account for steep hills. The GPS had us going down a 13% grade hill. Mark & Karen had come up that hill, and the best speed they could get was 20MPH. We were both concerned about going down it. Our new route was a little longer but much less steep. We also got treated to a herd of ... read more
