We have moved on board. We moved Paper Moon to a neighbors dock. We have rented house for $900 a week. We are experimenting with rentals. It will also show us what actually living in the boat will need. Trying to get ready to go sailing for a few months or maybe a couple of years, maybe the Caribbean.... read more

Wow 40 years...How time flys....We had 110 persons at our home...From our different walks of our life. We were lucky that 4 of the 5 kids could attend. Pete and his family just moved this past January to Winchester, KY. Pete has not time off right at the moment. We had Pete's brothers and their families come, some of my family, and tons of friends. Mike, our youngest son, somehow put himself in charge of boat tours. We were amazed, friends told us Mike had given them a great tour. Some had never been in a sailboat. Some said they didn't care if they ever were on another, but that Mike had been so charming...And wanted to know about all his girl friends...John was actually great also. Everyone seem to be at their peak. We served ... read more

Here we are in April already. Pete has rewired most of the boat. A 35 gallon waste tank has been installed. The air conditioner is now working. We have transfered the equipment from Zoo, and it is up for sale. New main sail cover, all new canvas, propane tank installed in the stern. Pete is working on aft cabin making an anchor well. Pete will take drawers from front locker, install shelves instead, more useful. Will install drawers elsewhere in the boat. Pete has improved his skills in the carpentry, doing beautiful work. Pete is in process of installing a 6 gallon water tank on top of the front locker, this will be drinking water only. A Danforth is being install on the bow. My cousin, Maty, has sent us a beautiful Virgin of the Charity, ... read more

We have a few days off work. Pete and I have been all over the boat. Making decisions as to what it needs. We did move Zoo over to a neighbors dock. We are going to take some equipment of Zoo, install it in Paper Moon. As we see it now, Paper Moon needs electrical work, major work. The JRC radar/chartplotter in Zoo, will be transfer over. The new VHF will too. The plumbing needs to be redone. There is no holding tank. Missing front toilet. Where to start........ read more

Left Marina around 0700. Came across St. Joseph sound with wind and seas. Cold, cold, cold. Arrived home dock around 1500 hours. John, Brenda and Lulu were there to help us tie up. John took pictures of us in our Alaskan get up. Pete said Maribel, Happy Birthday, this is what I got you. Our next door neighbors, Sherry and Rob came over. Brought us a bottle of champagne. Other friends, Kam and Mike came over to check boat out. Had early diner, and stayed warm in our house. ... read more

Cashiers check on hand, along for the ride are sailing friends and members of the Gulf Wind Sailing Club, Joe and Rosa Passanissi. They have lot's of experience with Out Islands. Both of them are professional Captains. We met Martin at the marina, handed him the check, checked boat out, gave Bob, marina owner, new 3 blade prop, told him we would pick boat up Friday night, arranged to sleep at their dock free of charge.... read more

A couple of days went by, some heated discussion kept ongoing...Pete said again, set up a sea trial. Well, when Pete speaks in that tone of voice....Pete said set it up, let's see what a surveyor has to say. Maribel called around, their usual surveyor had just moved to Colorado. Finally found one near Sarasota. Set up a sea trial for Nov 19. Martin told us he wanted to take the boat to Light House for a bottom job. So this would be sea trial. Maribel wanted to back up the boat from slip and helm it awhile, wanted to check prop walk, etc. Full keel usually has a bunch of prop walk. This proved to be true. While underway, a rain storm comes up, Martin said he didn't want the sails up. Finally arrived at ... read more

Arrived at home to find a phone call from owner of Paper Moon. Pete told son John all about Paper Moon. (John is one of our kids, number 4 of 5). Including the part of Mom hated it and had nothing good to say. John then starts on Mom, but Mom Dad wants this boat. NO, NO, is like buying a hull, and then rebuilding it. NO end of story. We have a good boat, Zoo, and we have rebuilt it, everything is done on this one, we don't need another boat to start with, or the expense, or have the time to start on a new one. NO. Well dang, Pete says CALL THIS MAN. I want to talk to him. It was ugly....Mom and Dad....ugly...son John saying but Mom... You ever tackled 2 guys.....Mom ... read more

While on our typical 2 week fall sail excursion we came across Paper Moon. Here is the short version of Paper Moon. We left the house on Zoo, our Morgan Out Island 28 headed South towards either the Keys or Dry Tortuga. A series of bad weather kept hitting us. We took refuge from a hurricane out in the Gulf in Boca Grande. While at anchor, Ilira comes in, 33 Morgan Out Island, we had previously met them , they are from the Morgan email list. We invited them over for pot luck diner on our boat. Lawrence says to us, he had been in Sarasota for about a month. While here he had met this character who was varnishing the bright work on a 36. He tell us this boat is up for sale, for ... read more
