While on our typical 2 week fall sail excursion we came across Paper Moon. Here is the short version of Paper Moon. We left the house on Zoo, our Morgan Out Island 28 headed South towards either the Keys or Dry Tortuga. A series of bad weather kept hitting us. We took refuge from a hurricane out in the Gulf in Boca Grande.
While at anchor, Ilira comes in, 33 Morgan Out Island, we had previously met them , they are from the Morgan email list. We invited them over for pot luck diner on our boat. Lawrence says to us, he had been in Sarasota for about a month. While here he had met this character who was varnishing the bright work on a 36. He tell us this boat is up for sale, for a very reasonable price. We get the information in writing, next morning make a call to Sarasota.
After several calls, Maribel get a hold of this character, gets a bit more info, tells him we will be up in Sarasota a couple of days later.
You have to understand, that somehow we always seem to come into places at dark, that we have never been too. So here is after dark, coming into O'Leary's. Pete is helming the boat, while Maribel is on bow directing him towards a spot she has spotted not to far from dinghy dock. Finally anchor around 1930 hours, tired and ready to have dinner and get some shut eye. It has been a long run.
Next morning we waited till this character was on the beach, we headed in, and went for a 1 mile walk to check Paper Moon out.
Maribel said OH MY, look at the oysters on this hull. The inside was in such a mess, Maribel went back out on deck said NO WAY. Pete stayed in the boat looking around in the engine compartment for a good 30 minutes. Men they have to check all the mechanical gadgets....
We left Sarasota for the home dock, vacation was at the end.
