If someone asks me what it feels like to be in the capital of a great country like USA,my answer would be towards 'Gardens and Museums'.Ofcourse needless to say one can not ignore the popularity of the White House,Capital Hill and Pentagon, but what is not widely advertised is that DC houses some of the finest Museums.A visit to the Smithsonians is worth its adoration. If you are a history buff visit the Smithsonian Museum of Natural Art and History. It speaks of civilizations of different eras, right from Pre-Historic to Mesozoic to Modern Medieval. You will find a culmination of world history-from Indus to Egyptian and from Mayan to Roman. For those Zoologists and kids alike there are Dinosaurs, stuffed mammals and animal kingdom dazing at you in its truest manifestation. But most of all and I believe the biggest attraction in ... read more

We leave in a week but our itinerary continues to evolve. As you can see we have built in lots of flexibility because we know what we want to see might change. Throw in the odd civil war or massive worker's strike and let's just say it pays to be flexible. Our flexibility should make it easy for us to connect with visitors if anyone has an interest in meeting us along the way. We would also love to know if you have any suggestions, recommendations, or contacts. And by contacts Roger means people who will feed him. Twinkies. Everyone is curious about our shots. We got them from Smartravel International Health Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia. We had the following shots (costs are per person): Polio - $49 Hepatitis A (2) - $160 Hepatitis B (3) - $240 Yellow Fever - $95 Flu Shot - $35 Oral Typhoid - $80 Meningitis - $120 Tetanus (Amy only) - $50 Total per person = $779 for Roger and $829 for Amy. We decided not to get the vaccine for Japanese Encephalitis because the side effects suck and we shouldn't have a high risk while we are in Asia (we will generally be there outside the transmission period). We wanted to get rabies shots but they would cost us about $900 each! So we are going to get those shots while we are in Thailand for $50 each. ... read more

It’s always fun to look ahead and make plans for your future, but things get a little more intense when you are a week away from leaving for a semester abroad. Thoughts are running through your mind a mile a minute, “What should I pack?” “What if I hate it?” “Will I like the people?” “Will I be able to communicate?” “What if I die?” Yes, I did ask myself a few times, “What if I die.” I don’t know if the thought would have crossed my mind at first if the Study Abroad office at the OU hadn’t told me that I needed to make sure my insurance policy had reparation of remains. I mean, what 20-year-old college student doesn’t want to scan their health insurance to make sure everything is going to be just ... read more

Now back in the good old USA which will be my home for the next 18 months! Before I start work I managed to spend 2 nights in LA and 3 nights in Washington. LA was still pretty warm which was nice and I had a fab day at Universal Studios with 2 girls I met from the hostel. The new Mummy ride was Awesome! The Nation's Capital (as the Americans like to call it) was fabulous. I loved walking past the White House, going up Washington Monument, Capitol Hill, the Smithsonian Institute, watching the dollar being printed, Lincoln Memorial, oh and a walking tour of Georgetown which included a few drinks in a bar. Wow. It was a busy few days and I will definitely be back. I loved Washington. Off to Boston tomorrow and ... read more

So here I am just 14 days till I'm done with work and 19 till the plane goes zoooom! I'm feeling a might bit twitchy this morning as traffic was nonexistant, the coffee was strong, and the music was fast (Iggy Pop/Marilyn Manson). Good times. I still haven't purchased my goods yet, but I have them priced out and I'll buy the majority of it tonite after work. Then tomorrow I head off to Kittyhawk, NC. Why? New years with the Wright Bros. Museum. Doubt there will be much of a party, but I've never been, so away I'll drive. That and I will be passing by my sister's house so I can drop some of my stuff off before I do the big move from my Centreville apartment next month. I'm looking more into prices ... read more

I'm still in Centreville (just outside of washington, DC, USA) prepping for my trip south of the equator. My plans as of this moment are to fly down (thanks gunvir for the ticket) to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on or about January 18. I'm hoping to bring my bike along so I need to get it prepped for the trip. No worries. Only 28 days left, maybe I should worry? Once I get down there I'm looking to tour BA then head north to Uruguay and onto Iguazu Falls at the Brazilian Border. From there I hope to head over into Paraguay to Ansuncion. At this moment I'm trying to learn how to go down the Paraguayan River to Rio de la Plata and Buenos Aires. Not much info, but I'll play it by ear when I ... read more

Peppy and I are only about 7 weeks out from our first flight, away around the world from the East Coast in less than two months. We have been planning for what seems like ages and I am starting to feel like I know a thing or two about the places we are heading, though of course I won't know anything till we see them ourselves. But we are coming down to crunch time, selling possessions, looking for subletors and getting shots, every little detail is being surrounded and dealt with, except the ones we are forgetting or didn't know to begin with. A rough outline of our plans: Feb 7, leaving for Nicaragua via CR We will spend a month in Nica, studying some Spanish and working with our friends at the country's largest childrens ... read more

The Thanksgiving long weekend certainly started as it meant to continue. After a rather stressed final day in the office going over details for our December event the following week (for which a midget was top priority), it was nice to go home and think of those four long days stretching out ahead of me. On my way home, however, I stopped to meet Anna at 14th Street. I thought I'd better help out, seeing she was attempting to get home, get changed and then run back out to meet her friend within the space of 20 minutes, whilst all the time carrying half the contents of an NYC deli, not to mention this big bastard of a turkey. She'd agreed to cook for a couple of Mountbattens in our apartment, catering for people as a ... read more

So after finishing my one year contract in South Korea, I had a free ticket back to the states so I decided to fly to D.C. and see my good friend lil Shakira. We went to most of the sights, however it was cold as hell. I must say I wasn't really impressed with D.C. I thought the traffic sucked and the night life sucked even more. All I really met were rich Coasties, everybody is either a lawyer or in real estate. I prefer the west coast alot more. I did enjoy seeing my best friend though!!!!!... read more
