Today was my first day at work... refereeing kids basketball games at the YMCA. I did 4 games of 4th grade boys, it was exhausting. I got home at didn't plan on partying much because I had to ref 4 more games tomorrow morning and be at the gym at 8:45 am. We ended up heading to Will's house to party. Many of my roommates, Jeff, Cedric and I headed over. We got there and Dane was out of it. He came up to the table when Jeff and I were playing and knocked everything over. I sorted him out and we had a good as time. Later we went back to the flat and Dane and had fun wrestling on the upstairs floor and couches. I was up 2-0, with some cool style points haha. ... read more

It was snowing in Keytstone today, Saturday. It was a great day skiing with Jon, Jennie, Sarah, and Jason who was visiting from chi town. We went all the way to the back of the mountain down the run wolverine, which borders the boundary of the mountain. Most of the run is through trees, but its not too dense, you can get some speed and still be in control. We ended up skiing out of bounds for some of the time which was nice because there were not many tracks there, lots of fresh snow. On the second time down I had gathered my confidence and was skiing well. I was going with good speed and bumped into a branch of a tree and fell, but I got up and was alright. It was a fun ... read more

Well the time is quickly coming around to leave this country, this town and I truly cannot wait. I am most nervous about the first few days, getting around London, from the airport to the hostel, but I know that I will survive that just fine. Mostly I just want to get on the airplane and get going. I am sure that I am missing something big and important, but I will figure that out later. I hope that I can keep up with this "blog" regularly and keep everyone up to date. If I can get picture downloaded off of my camera I will get them up here as well, but as of now, this computer at least is giving me fits...not any more, just have to smarter than the machine. I don't have too ... read more

Well the time is here, I still can't believe that I am heading half way around the world to the land of Pyramids, Pharoahs, The Nile, and so much more! Im leaving from Denver and flying non stop to London Heathrow. Once there, assuming flights are ontime, i get to sit and twiddle my thumbs for 4hours and 45 minutes, and then its on to Cairo! It should be quite the adventure, I hope I am able to maintain this journal, and that you are able to follow along with me! Enjoy!... read more

T minus 7 days, and I'm off on my first solo travel adventure! I found this great program (InterExchange) that placed me with a nice family in Madrid. I'm going to live in their home for three months, teaching their children English in exchange for room and board. I feel so excited and scared right now. I'm glad I committed to this adventure before I really thought it through! My Spanish is lousy. I'm on the introverted end of the spectrum, so I know I need to make a concerted effort to interact with people, and I know that will be a challenge with the language barrier. I guess I'm most afraid of linguistic isolation. Hopefully blogging will help me feel connected while I'm gone. I just finished my PhD a few weeks ago, and when ... read more

Today Steve, Bret, Jon, Jennie, Damon, Courtney (Damon's younger sister), Amy, and I went ridin at Breck. The snow was pretty average. There were alot of ice patches. Jon and I both drove up. It was a great day of ridin because Jon brought up his video camera and Steve recorded us all throughout the day. It was so much fun. I even went through a small half pipe and off some jumps. It was fantastic, the video is hilarious. I ski'd without a hat, my hair was all over the place, its so long now. I havn't cut it since mid June 2005, almost 9 months, haha. Unfortunately Im gonna have to cut it if i get the internship at boeing in la over summer. School is going alright. Materials Science and Computational Methods are ... read more

Vail was by far the largest resort with 6,000 sq. acres of ski-able terrain (versus 2,600 sq. acres in most others) with 6 huge bowls and some 26 lifts. You need a road map just to move around the hill. Day One brought us certainly the windiest conditions we have experienced on our trip. Trying to get to the back bowls, we were nearly blown off course by blinding winds of blasting snow. The liftees teased that they were going to charge extra for the natural derma-brasion treatments. The hill was mostly populated with locals wanting to get their skiing in before Presidents’ Day weekend. On the chairlift one local shared that she and her husband purchased a condo as their winter home in the late 70’s for $78,000. Today the condo is worth $1.5 million. ... read more
