Greetings from Grand Junction. It was a smooth, short, and easy jaunt over from Moab to Grand Junction on Tuesday. I got set up, had lunch, went over to Flyin’ Miata (to make sure I knew how to get there on Wednesday) and then made what I hope is my last run to the store for supplies on this journey. I spent the day at Flyin’ Miata on Wednesday. They weren’t finished at the end of the day (I allowed for two days there) so Keith Tanner gave me a ride home in one of Flyin’ Miata’s cars - a 2006 supercharged Miata. That was a fun ride back to the campground with a professional road racer. I’ve been relaxing and catching up on some things around the RV this morning. I also reviewed my ‘flight ... read more

What a day!!!! I am trying to do an organized event in all 50 states. While on this trip, I had knocked out two more states and CO was on the agenda for today. 25k should be about 15.5 miles. It WAS NOT 15 probably a bit closer to 17. The run started in Marble at an elevation of 7,950 feet. I didn't really know that going into the run. The run gained 2,900 feet in almost 6 miles. It started to drizzle some at mile 4. It really started to rain at mile 7.5 and it was probably in the mid 40's for the entire race. It was a tough race and I'm feeling it in my feet and legs. The scenery of the race was impressive!! The Aspen trees are turning colors. Most of ... read more

17th May, 2009 Grand Junction to Idaho Springs Just when you thought you had seen everything, today was awesome, from Grand Junction we travelled East over the Rocky Mountains, summit being 10,603 ft. Up through small Ski resorts (no shortage of money here if the homes etc are anything to go by), such as Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Gypsum, Eagle, Edwards, and Vaili. We followed the Colorado River up the Valley - a raging torrent with many rafters enjoying the rapids, untill we reached the summit, a big climb towing the RV but on a fantastic two lane highway (each way). At the top we went through the tunnel and started coming down the mountains. Still lots of snow on the tops as the photos show. We drove down to a place called Georgetown (Old Gold Mining ... read more

14th May, 2009 Off to Grand Junction, Colorado today, pretty quick trip, only 116 miles and mainly along SH70, never fails to amaze me as I move along at 65mph, the big rigs passing and leaving me behind + the motorbikes ripping past, no helmets and only wearing the lightest of clothing ie a singlet, shorts and jandals, suppose they are cool and very dead if they come off. Plan to stay in Grand Junction for three nights, we need to catch up on washing etc. 15th May Grand Junction is a nice place, pretty laid back, we went for a walk around the suburbs this morning and again tonight, passed a lot of yard sales (garage sales), someone even tried to sell us a Harley Davidson. Quiet day again but a few photo's you may ... read more

16th May, 2009 Grand Junction Today I need to start with a History lesson, In 1945 Lloyd Olsen, a farmer in Fruita was slaughtering a chicken (named Mike) when his axe slipped and he didn't kill the chicken, it was headless but had its brain stem, a jugular vein and one ear intact. The farmer kept it alive by feeding it mash and water through a syringe - it was a "miracle", and he toured the country making enough money to pay off his farm, buy new equipment etc, anyway Mike died after about a year, and today they have a celebration in Fruita "Mike the Headless chicken" - we went. The web site gets about 40,000 hits a month, and here it is - www.miketheheadlesschicken.org Fantastic car show, egg throwing, headless chicken races, blind folded ... read more

Thankful that we didn't have to pack up and check out of the hotel today, we spent the day in Grand Junction and Frutia, Colorado. Sleep was not so great last night, both boys had a pretty hard time. This meant we got a later start than anticipated this morning, but still got everything in. Our main focus for today was Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita. Since this is our "Dinosaur Trip" it was time for us to spend some time hanging out with dinosaurs. The museum had some great exhibits and hands on activities for kids. The boys appreciated being out of the car and getting to explore a new place. After the museum, we ate our picnic lunch in the neighboring park and headed back to the hotel (the same one for two nights!) ... read more

After much ado, it is time to come out of hiding. With grand plans of catching up on blogs of traveling through Europe when we got back to the States, we promptly wrote of nothing on arrival. So with a much belated edition to the series I am hoping to resume our blogs by starting out where we ended up before getting back into where we were. Err...yah, hope you got that... Our ship has landed...our itchy travel feet sated for the time being. Grand Junction, Colorado is our new found home. The name of the town is nothing much. It is what you may describe as an all American blue collar town. Women don't walk around tottering on pricey heels. Men don't pound the pavement to press the flesh in freshly ironed suits. It's a ... read more

Greetings from Grand Junction, Colorado. It was a most interesting drive of 333 miles today from Limon to Grand Junction. I’m really glad I pressed on the previous days as I was able to drive beyond where any snow may be falling tonight. I topped of the fuel tank on the east side of Denver, made a stop at Camping World, and headed for the Rockies. DB did great in the mountains. I missed two good opportunities to capture some images today, but I did stop and take a few shots along the way. I had numerous rain and snow showers along the drive. I crossed the continental divide in the Eisenhower tunnel - the highest vehicular tunnel in the world at 11,000 feet. Wish I had pulled over when I exited the tunnel into the ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 40 5th April - 12th April 2007 The Big Country! New Mexico, Colorado and Utah With time ticking by, we have stepped up our advertising to sell Winnie, our home and motorhome. The UK website has disappointingly only produced one enquiry, that from a rather dubious character we would rather avoid. It’s now also advertised on two US websites though we don’t have a lot of faith in their efficacy, as the USA is a big place - and the person who wants to look at it could be 1,000 miles away! Our best bet seems to be the ‘For Sale’ signs now on the front, sides and rear of the motorhome and we are getting enquiries almost every day - though no sale yet! Recent visits to scenic places of ... read more
