We left for California this morning. We had about 2 inches of fresh snow, but there was no snow and sunny just south of Colorado Springs. My street was icy, but the other streets were just wet. Luckily the storm was more north. The attached photo show what we are traveling in. The RV and Saturn Vue that we are towing are disgustingly dirty. Tomorrow we drive to Tucson and stay 4 nights with my cousin. We are camping at the Indian casino just north of Albuquerque. I am on the computer keeping Terry company while Jan gambles away are life savings. ... read more

We got home from LA in News Years Eve. We were very lucky. Most days the flights from LA to Houston were completely overbooked. Thursday look the best with a couple of flights with seats. Russ drove us to LAX at 6 am for a 9 am flight. We got there in 40 minutes instead of the usual 1 to 2 hours. We got on the 8 am flight to Houston instead of the 9 am flight. We then could not get on the next 2 flights to Colorado Springs from Houston. The last flight at 6pm looked just as bad so we tried to get on Denver flights. We missed the first but we got the last 2 seats on the next flight. There was one more flight that day if we had needed it. ... read more

What a difference a day can make when it comes to the weather. Yesterday it was 70 degrees when we arrived in Colorado Springs and this morning it was 37 degrees with light snow. UGH!!! We had planned to go to Pikes Peak but obviously that was out of the question due to snow on the mountain. We chose instead to visit the Air Force Military Academy and the Chapel. At the visitor center, we viewed a short film about the academy and then I went to the Chapel to photograph this architecturally interesting building. The following is information written about the Chapel. "Like a row of jet wings set on their end, the Air Force Academy’s chapel is one of the most architecturally significant structures in Colorado, representing a new modernism in governmental buildings, while ... read more

We moved on to Colorado Springs today via a pretty direct route through mountain passes. What a huge variation in temperature and overall weather. The temp in Montrose was 43 with totally overcast skies. It dropped down to 32 with snow flurries in the mountains and then gradually up to as high as 70 degrees and clear blue sunny skies when we arrived in Colorado Springs. Winter to summer in a matter of a couple of hours. That's Colorado!! Because it was such a gorgeous clear day, we chose to drive up Pikes Peak. Unfortunately it was 3pm, the park closed at 5pm and we were told we'd only have enough time to drive up and down with no stops along the way. We chose not to go, but rather to see The Garden of the ... read more

The world still turns outside of the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness! Back from 30 days of wild wilderness work without wash or waterproof boots. Sadly, my leather companions did not hold up to the harsh elements and my final two weeks were spent with copious amounts of ducktape and superglue holding things together. They were unceremoniously retired but I hope to give them new life as flower pots when the occasion arises. But the Sangres -- let me go back -- are the most glorious, majestic and spiritual mountains I've ever explored. Everything feels raw, exciting and alive. Time is not directed by the hourly norm but instead by the movement of the sun and arrival of storms and wind. We spent many afternoons watching eerie and ominous storms approaching from the west as we hustled ... read more

Two days ago we were still in Arkansas. On Thursday morning we left Hot Springs early and we were kind of glad to leave that sad little resort town. Today we had a long drive planned. It took us a while to get back to I-40, we had to cross the Ouachita Mountains. Once back on the interstate, we just drove west. We entered Oklahoma with its wide fields as far as the horizon. After passing Oklahoma City we crossed parts of the original Route 66. And for sure we had to drive the historic highway as well. By now it looks pretty much like any other highway, but you can still see the original gas stations, motels and diners along the way. In Oklahoma we also visited the Route 66 Museum. After that we jumped ... read more

Maedels, ich ... read more

De plus, avec les pluies récentes, "the flowers go wild in the meadows".
