Our last stop: Colorado to visit Scott's dad, stepmom, and final little sister. Up until this point we have been having a fabulous time visiting everyone, as you can see. We have also very busy taking in the sights and spending quality family time... Colorado was no different. We got there around 5:00pm and hung out until his dad came from his flight, we were conveniently flying into Denver around the same time, us from Tennessee, and him from Settle. While we were waiting Scott and I started making a list of all the things we were going to have to do before getting back, and deciding to play a game as to who could find Mr. Eaddy first. I won! Even though I never met him before that, Scott is still saying he was distracted ... read more

Monday. Colorado Springs, Colorado. After a leisurely breakfast and conversation at a Dunkin Donuts with a nice mountain view, the sight-seeing began. First stop was Manitou Springs which is a hippie enclave at the base of Pikes Peak. We did a little walking, a little window-shopping, and a little relaxing in this nice little park with a stream running through it and lots of shade! To illustrate how friendly the people in Colorado truly are, a man with very few teeth added an offer of nose candy to the usual greeting in passing. Needless to say, we declined and took the long way out of the park to avoid him and his "wife." It's really quite hilly in the mountains... we walked up a stairway that looked like it might lead to a little path (but ... read more

Sunday. Kansas City, Missouri to Colorado Springs, Colorado. A very nice morning with Tony's friends and their two young boys followed by a very uneventful day filled with lotso-driving. We went through all of Kansas, which was as expected, very flat. We stopped in Old Colorado City and stayed at a very basic hotel, Garden of the Gods. This was the only place we stayed two nights in! In general terms, the people in Colorado are fitter and friendlier than those back home. The grocery store clerk actually had such a conversation with Tony that it was nearly impossible to tear ourselves out of there without being rude! Many pictures were taken and a handful are here. Those who know me, feel free to ask to see all 500 or so photos if you have some ... read more

So today is Monday. Its snowing and Im a damn ice cube. This is exactly why I hate Colorado. The state just doesnt give me a break! LOL! Anyways, got in yesterday morning at around 1100 on the Medevac from Scott AFB, IL... That was the longest short flight ever. It would normally take around 1 hour but it took about 2.5 hours because its the slow C130! Oh and the climate sucked too! It was very very very cold at first then it turned into hell then hell froze over for about an hour then hell opened its damn doors again and finally froze over for one last time! We landed and I didnt even realize it! I was very upset when I got off the plane to find out how friggin cold it was/is ... read more

I just thought Id let you all know that we took off, well I forget what day, but a couple of days ago from Hawaii on a KC10 (air refueler) to McGuire AFB, New Jersey. The flight was 10 hours and really close to sub zero temperatures! LOL! We were sitting on 200,000 pounds of jet fuel and we refueled a C5 on the way over. So, we got to Jersey and took a bus to Philly then took a subway to Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Stayed the night there and got an Army C12 to Columbia, South Carolina where we picked up 3 people (1 Master Chief(Navy)) and flew up to Andrews AFB, Maryland where it was pretty much crappy weather the whole time. It was really cold and rainy and it just sucked. From there ... read more

After spending most of my time hiking in northern areas of the state, I finally decided it was time to venture south and visit some places outside of Colorado Springs. Waldo Canyon is a relatively easy 7 mile hike just outside of Manitou Springs (essentially a suburb of Colorado Springs). Interestingly, this hike is considered the most popular in all of the Pike National Forest, which extends from the Mt. Evans area all the way south to Pikes Peak. The trailhead is easy to find (its just off US 24 outside of Manitou Springs) and it provides a nice taste of the varied terrain in the mountains above the Springs. From the highest points of the trail above the canyon, you get nice views of Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mountain, as well as unique-looking cliffs ... read more

After leaving Aaron’s sister’s home in Ohio on Wednesday afternoon, we traveled in the direction of St. Louis as long as we could stand to be on the road. As night closed in our eyelids began to become heavier so we stopped in the middle of Illinois for the night. The next day consisted of 800 miles of driving. We started by completing the route to St. Louis where we made a stop to take a few quick pictures of the Gateway Arch and more importantly take a tour of the Budweiser brewery! During the tour we got to see all sorts of memorabilia in a miniature Budweiser museum, the world famous Clydesdales, the brewing and bottling operations, and had a few samples of the freshest beer possible. Aaron even got a certificate for participating in ... read more

Everyone except the bro had a lazy start to today. Once I finally got moving (oh, around noon) there wasn’t much downtime. The sis-in-law and I hit the town to do a little shopping, with a 3pm deadline so that I could get back down to Pueblo to visit my friend (and actually talk to her this time). Really, it was just supposed to be some dog treats and some road food. Right. After agonizing over the right selection of birthday treats and a surprise accessory for the b’day pup (bright pink leopard skin collar that the bro already vetoed!), we headed back across town to the Super Target. I love Target. We spent way too much time in the $1 Spot. I found argyle flip-flops an inflatable pillow for camping and some Napoleon Dynamite wristbands ... read more

Not much happened between Sunday and Tuesday. If you look past the boredom, it was actually kind of nice. Sunday - the bro and I ran some errands. I got to dog-sit while he went up to Denver to pick up Mom. The dogs definitely had some separation anxiety, but we did ok. Monday - We had a blowout of a Memorial Day…right. Apparently my body was still closer to Eastern Time, so I definitely got up at 7. Ended up getting sucked into the “Deadliest Catch” marathon. Damn. I only watched a few episodes, but I now know that one profession I don’t have the guts for is crab fishing. Thankfully, I was lured away by grilling up some grub. The bro can grill! Too bad the sis-in-law had to work the split shift. The ... read more

The big question of Day 3 - will a butter rum muffin make me fail a breathalyzer? I figured no, enjoyed the tasty treat, said my goodbyes and headed on to what I expected to be one of the top 3 most boring drives of the trip - Kansas. I really hope it's in the top 3, b/c I don't think I can handle more than 3 of these!! It didn't start out too bad. Actually, it reminded me a bit of the southern English countryside, except way more expansive. A lot of green, rolling hills with the occasional scattered rocks. Then I drove into a bit of a storm. After the storm I realized I wasn't in Kansas anymore. Well, I was...but not the version I had been in before! It got all flat and ... read more
