After a lazy start to the day on Friday 17th (yes, had a bit of a night out on the 16th) we jumped in a car with a group of other travellers from our hostel and took a trip to Muir Woods, an hour north of San Francisco. This is one of the last pockets of Redwoods (Sequioas) in the State, and the only one in the Bay Area. It was a beautiful sunny day, the air was very crisp and clear, and we were walking in a stand of trees over a thousand years old. We also took a side trip to Muir Beach, just south of the woods, and looked out over the Pacific Ocean from a different perspective. it was strange to think of home lying so far away, but still connected by ... read more

Motorhome News from North America 6 Wonderful Yosemite! Moss Landing, Monterey, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Laguna Seca and Hearst Castle From summer to winter to spring - all in March. March 7th - 16th 2006 How are you guys doin’ today? We have heard it so many times, from so many people, ‘If you only visit one place in California, it has to be Yosemite’. There is no escaping Yosemite National Park. It offers 1,200 square miles of spectacular natural landscape to explore and savour, though it’s not all accessible in winter; the higher passes are closed until late spring when the thaw brings water gushing forth from streams and falls. Earlier lessons of snowy conditions learned, we chose a ‘Kampgrounds of America’ (KOA) campsite outside the park and took the morning bus along the ... read more

Hi, So, we have 15 days and wanted to see quite a few cities.. Here's our plan. I never realized how much you learn by just planning a trip like this! Between reading all the guidebooks I could get my hands on, watching the travel videos and surfing online, I've learnt so much geography and history of Europe that I never knew before. I was telling Anand that we should generally read these books and watch these videos once in a while even if we're not officially planning such a trip, just to learn about various parts of the world - let's see if that ever happens! Here's our overall itinerary: Sat, Mar 18th: Leave for Europe! Sun, Mar 19th-21st evening: Paris 21st evening: travel to Amsterdam 22nd-23rd: Amsterdam 23rd night: Travel to Berlin (night train) ... read more

Well, it being St. Patrick's Day here in the States, Holly and I decided we would go out for some good ol' Corned Beef and Cabbage for dinner. There being two Streets of London Public Houses (not Irish, we know, but close enough) within a short drive from our home we went to check out the St. Patrick's Day party action at the Folsom location (there is also a SOLP in mid-town Sacramento). For all die-hard Anglophiles/Europhiles like Holly and I, or if you're a Limey (please take no offense, none intended) living in the States and are somewhat homesick, Streets of London Pub is the place to be. Having lived in England myself and experiencing first hand a real English pub ambiance, the old Coca-Cola advertising jingle "There's nothing like the real thing, Baby" holds ... read more

Ok so I was looking back over my photos and realised I had a bunch with no journal entry to post them by. It took a little work but I eventually worked out that neither of us had written anything for Thursday. So as not to generate unrealistic expectations I would like to ask you to disregard the fact that I was concerned about missing one day, it is most uncharacteristic behaviour for me, and I don't foresee many future concerns in similar situations. I can assume that for Thursday breakfast we got up and had bagels. I was in touch with a friend, Stan (known to some as Trogdor) who was heading through town on his way to make business deals and such, so he stopped by and babysat Ju and myself through our first ... read more

I have returned to America. More specifically, I have returned to my suburb on the outskirts of Los Angeles. It does not appear that much has changed here. However, that does not mean nothing has changed. I am not exactly the same. My trip to southeast Asia was such an amazing experience, and one that I believe will influence my future. My travels have certainly not ended; they have paused. In addition, I am more open than ever to living overseas. In spite of all that, it is good to be home. There is much that needed to be handled here, and I am in the process of taking care of those things. You know, those typical things that stack up while away for an extended period, plus a few surprises: mail, bills, jury duty, taxes, ... read more

From LA, Rob and I hit the open road and headed for San Francisco where my friend, Tana, had organised a place for us to stay through a friend of a friend. Steve's house was a mansion, complete with big screen TV's, hot tub and Sensory Deprivation Tank and served as a luxury base to explore the (extremely hilly) San Francisco. It's fair to say that San Francisco is now among the top 10 places I would love to live in, possibly because it had a very 'Melbourne' feel to it. Rob and I did all the sight-seeing things that you do: we ate Clam Chowder down on Fisherman's Wharf, we marvelled at the Golden Gate Bridge, drove down the 'World's Crookedest Road' and then hit the gay bars. After 4 days in San Francisco I ... read more

And thus has our first day in the U S of A progressed. Well, ok. Before that. Following fond farewells at the airport - from our families and from the toilet at our gate (seriously, it thanked us and asked us to come again, has the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation started shipping toilets to Earth now?) they announced that random bag checks would take place while boarding. Juliet tried for the triple, having already been stopped at two out of two check points, but this time was allowed through. Jenny seriously doesn't recommend sitting next to smelly people on the plane (and I don't mean Ju!) but inflight entertainment was otherwise passable. Juliet discovered that she is amongst those who are physically incapable of sleeping on planes, and threw intermittent bleary and jealous looks at sleeping Jenny's ... read more

it's our last leg@LA and today we visited CSULA or California State university LA to have a chat with their Prof ...it was a fruitful trip tho' we were lost as we missed the turning to go up onto freeway 710 from 55...however, all is not lost as when we reached the campus, we were wowed by the warm reception and also the prepn they have taken to help us understand more about the IT structure n Instructional Designs done by their teacher trainees. Of course, a signature trade-mark of the campus was the Golden Eagle and we manage to capture a screen shot of that! It was the time of year that everyone counts down the days to... Spring Break! And being that it was my fifth year of college - I knew it would be my last REAL chance at a true spring break before joining the "real world". Having never been further West than Alabama at this point, I knew exactly where I needed to go - California! I made arrangements to stay with a good friend of mine, Chris, and managed to line up part of the trip with some fellow friends from home to fly in together and spend the first day there all in a mini-reunion. We had a blast! With only three hours of sleep, Myself, Hiral, Craig, Brad, and Theresa left for the Atlanta airport to catch our 9am flight. We arrived into Los ... read more
