Hi Guys, Well, here’s our first ‘log’ from the USA! We flew into LA at 6am on the 1st. After getting through the finger printing etc at the customs we made it outside - fresh (ish) air for the first time in about 14+ hours. I was waiting to hear how our accents would sound once we were amongst Americans and it didn’t disappoint - I sound like Sandy out of Grease and Kent sounds like Mick Dundee!!!! We caught a cab to our hotel at Rendondo Beach- it was lovely but way tissy (a real American thing…very ornamental). Had breakfast and realised that all the meals over here are going to be like ordering Subway - too many choices, how do you want your eggs? how do you want your potato? toast? What kind? rye, ... read more

After South America it was nice to get to US to meet some friends. First four days we stayed with Gloria and Andy in Pleasanton. We had great time, visited some wineries and enjoyed the Californian sun and good company. San Francisco is one of our favorite big cities. We had fun even though the weather was colder than what we expected. The wind was freezing, but that's nothing we couldn't handle with :) We visited Alcatraz and walked around the streets and parks of this beautiful city. ... read more

Having said farewell to the endless esculators in Vegas and the speed chasing cop from the unknown Area 51, Chris and I greeted our venture into California's Death Valley with slight apprehension. It's not every day that I get to tour an area known as the hottest place on earth. Although, being March, I expect we'll be okay. The first scheduled stop hit the heart strings for both of us, as it was known as 'Scotty's Castle'. Chris approached the ticket window with his strong Glaswegian accent, attempting to claim a free ticket for heritage reasons; no luck. I approached the window with the same reasoning adding a female touch, and was at least told of where to go, for free. We traipsed up the hill to Scotty's final resting place and paid our respects to ... read more

Ok so we are offically going to EUROPE! After about two months of planning we are finally heading off to the many countries of Europe!!! Lets start off by telling the story from the beginning... First off was finding the perfect date for us to go. As you know we are finishing up our 3rd year at CSULB and we want to travel before all the schools finish. So it was either having loni move her finals up about a week or start a week later. Wellll.... we offically planned on leaving the week after finals. Once the date was established, we had another MAJOR disaster... THE FLIGHT! Both of our parents had free airline miles through American Airlines. So, the logical thing was to use those miles to get a free flight to Europe. ... read more

So...I thought I would allow you to get to know my girls before we head out on this incredible journey together. Hopefully over time you will get to know us as well as we know us...did that make sense? Anyways, here goes... Dawn Elizabeth Darby and I have been friends since Freshman year at U of I where we not only lived in the same dorm, but joined the same sorority house (sisterly love...heehee). Dawn is a beautiful blend of an intellect/hippy/free-spirit who will blow your mind with her brilliance, and melt your heart with her motherly love. Dawn has taught me so much in life, but most importantly, she has taught me to cherish each moment, not worry about the details, and find beauty in everyone and everything. She is one of a kind. Dawn ... read more

I leave tomorrow. All week I've being saying goodbye to various people. I don't think it's really hit me yet. I'm a little bit overwhelmed with packing and making sure I have everything I need but I'm also very underwhelmed about this whole trip. I don't think I really realize the extent of it. I once went bungee jumping off a dam in Switzerland. 270 meters, one of the highest jumps you can do. Before the jump, I tried not to think about it and before I knew it I was jumping off the edge of the platform. and that was that...I didn't think it was scary or fun or exhilarating or anything really. I hope this experience doesn't mirror that one and end in bitter disappointment. Haha, that wont happen. This is gonna be awesome. ... read more

In all, we spent about 4 days in San Diego. It was nice. We basically just hung out, and did nothing...which was everything! It felt good. One night Evan and I made burgers (hers a turkey burger) and corn on the cob. YUMMY. We watched the movie Northridge. Good movie! Its all about sexual harassment in the work place, and sexual discrimination. We were going to rent the movie "Waiting." I thought it was something I could relate to...you know, working in the restaurant business forever. I thought a comedy about the whole trauma would be good. The girls behind the counter said it was awful. OK. I'm glad we got Northridge...but I have since heard that 'Waiting' was HILARIOUS! The girls, I guess, have never worked in the food industry (to bad...it makes your skin ... read more

If you want the kids and youth version of my story, go to http://gringoduck.blogspot.com - thanks. Well, that was an "interesting" start to what promises to be a challinging experience. I went into Regina from esterhazy, no problem. My girls came down from saskatoon to see me off in spite of the bad weather forecast. Yesterday I was awake at 5:45 AM (not excited at all of course!) After a hearty breakfast with realtives, we decided to check on the plane and found the flight had been cancelled! OK, no panic. I called AirCanada and they said no planes are flying into Regina on account of weather. I could try another carrier (Westjet), or they would take me to Vancouver after supper and on to San Francisco at 9AM today. I accepted the latter offer reluctantly ... read more
