Last night I went Tango dancing at "Cell Space". An alternative Milonga here in San Francisco. Despite the sketchiness of the area (Think kind of like Skid Row but with more attractive graffiti), and despite I parked too far away and was concerned about the walk back at midnight AND wondered if my car would even be there when I returned (even if there is not a "no parking" sign in site I am still weary of the fate of an automobile here). Oh yes, despite all of that, the inside was spacious, the people welcoming. The only thing was that several of the men smelled. Two reeked of funk and I wanted to mention something deodorant. One smelled oddly of baby lotion mixed with baby powder....strange, but he danced well. Then there was the ... read more

Last night I crawled into bed when the sky darkened and fell fast asleep, exhausted from the hike I took earlier. I was deep in sleep when I heard voices shouting "Get out bear!" "Go on Bear". I was in a bit of a daze and thought it was some drunked foolish youth. The voices were nearing my canvas type thing I was sleeping in. I realized that they actually were shooing away a bear, then I heard a shot and then a loud bang with an illuminating light that accompanied it. It was a bit scary and I felt bad for the bear (I just think they scared it). Of course at that moment I "really" had to pee, so I ran to the bathroom and went before the bear returned. In the morning ... read more

San Fransisco is a brilliant city and I am so happy i went back an visited it again. I would say it is probably the best city in the U.S. There is so much to do and it is so spectacular, from any type of cuisine you want to amazing scenery. The hills are pretty hard on the old legs though so if any one does go there I would advise going on the tram. they are steep. The beaches there are pretty cool however the water is something else )bloody freezing). I think there was a reason why noone escasped Alcatraz. Obviously I had to do the touristy part of going over to Alcatraz and look at the cell which house Al Capone. Its a really good tour though and not a bad price, but ... read more

I started a little earlier this morning as Pete had recommended that before I head of on my city adventures I should walk up to Tank Hill which is just around the corner from the house to check out the views from up there. Whilst it is onloy round the corner there is the small matter of the 45-degree hill that is the top of Stanyan Street to contend with first and by the time I got to Tank Hill I was sweating up a storm as it was another bright sunny day. The views were very much worth the minor heart attack, though, as you're able to get a panoramic of the entire city, from way out west on the Pacific right round to the Bay Bridge and beyond. After that I walked down to ... read more

What: The Fault When: 24th September 2006 Description: A 3.5 mile hike starting off from a parking lot near Pacifica up to Fort Funston, San Francisco. The famous San Andreas fault gets inland here. Impossible, rather, not advisable to do it during high tides, due to high waves and rip currents. Ocean on one side and tall 50- 100 ft cliffs on the other side. fyi, Fort Funston is a part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Plans for this hike started off a week back. I was just too scared to do it alone. So, people pooled in. Due to the time constraint, we compromised on doing it only one way having cars parked on either end of the hike. Peak high tide was at 1:00 pm and peak low tide was at 6:40 pm. ... read more

Arrived into SF noonish, hit the BART and was in town by 12:30! YAY! Now I can say out load what I've always thought...San Francisco IS one of the greatest cities in the world. Love it! Rode the cable car...went to the Top of the Mark...ahhhh...wonderful...next stop...home. In Conclusion... As this trip is winding down... thought this would be a good time to reflect. Also note some facts that all may not be aware of including me till I thought it over!... Gone for only 2 months I had: 1 - 'round-the-world' ticket which I acquired from Aeroplan points (that's right...I didn't pay for it!). This took me: on 21 Flights to 13 countries on 6 continents in 2 hemispheres which means I am now almost completely convinced that the earth is in fact round. Traveling ... read more
