Orange juice and breakfast bars again. Yuck. But quick and easy. Checkout isn't until 12 so we head up to Lombard Steet - the famous bit - and arrive around 10am. Not too many people this time of morning. We walk down it, then up again, and by the time we reach the top after taking a lot of pictures and getting towards 11am, it's starting to get crowded. Back to the motel - checkout and head back to the Wharf to find another Alcatraz book that Karina decided she should have bought yesterday. We finally found it, then had In'n'Out Burger for lunch. I should've got a double cheeseburger burger. :( Next stop, Columbus Street where Karina had seen some buildings with artwork that she wanted to photograph. She also got some good shots of ... read more

San Francisco, Market Street, 25-11-2002. I've seen her face in my dreams these last few days, known her nationality - Ethyopian - , even her personality was no secret to me. In the real world I've seen her dressed in her red and yellow striped pyjamas walking between her room and the toilet on the second floor of my hostel, usually carrying toilet utensils like a tooth brush or a roll of toilet paper, often giving me long and seductive looks from under carefully manicured eye lashes. As a male with years of contact with the female part of the human population, these provocative and promising looks told me all that there was to know about this excentric but highly attractive lady. No doubt about it she has a healthy appetite for men needing their constant ... read more

San Francisco, The Mission, 23-11-2002. I've decided that today's excursion will have to be The mission, a spanish speaking enclave of San Francisco, one of the oldest neighborhoods and inhabited mainly by mexican emigrants who have left their homeland behind in a desperate search for a better life. Down in their homeland stories abound in the dusty aldeas of mainland Mexico. Family members, friends and acquiantances who made it across the heavily guarded border, people who came from the impoverished shanty towns of Mexico Ciudad, la gente mexicana who often had less to eat as the rats that inhabited the iglesias locales. If there was anything at all in their vidas pobres it were the dreams they harboured, dreams of a better life, a big american automobile with a brick house that has many rooms, a ... read more

San Francisco, Union Square, 22-11-2002. I start my day with the usual big coffee drinking it outside on United Nations Plaza. It is early yet and I love seeing this cozy city wake up. Business people in expensive suits hurrying down Market street to their offices in the Fiancial District, in one hand a leather bound attachè case and a paper cup containing hot coffee in the other. Market people setting up their stands all around me unloading their wares from parked cars. An army of homeless sods rearranging Safeway shopping trolleys full with empty platic bottles collected during the night for deposit money no doubt. The "professional" chess players setting up their collapsible tables and chess boards with pieces. Maybe I'll have a game later in the afternoon, I won a game last night making ... read more

Northern Yosemite Tuesday 23rd September 2008 Well, this surpassed our expectations! The Northern part of Yosemite is sensational; high rugged peaks, thick pine forest, crystal clear mountain lakes and huge granite outcrops and vertical faces, which some intrepid mountaineers were climbing. It is further to drive to get to these northern parts of the national park and then one needs to do a lot of hiking about to enjoy the full experience, so maybe that is why less tourists venture up here and go to the valley instead. It is high up, but the drive up the Tioga Road is OK, in fact we drove some far more winding routes with nasty vertical drops over the last week crossing the Sierra to get here. Only once did we both feel a bit dizzy for a few ... read more

Hi all, we are now back in San Fransisco to start our tour of the National Parks, this will take about 28 days. No piccies this time, computer still running on steam. Well, our time at Lake Tahoe was fantastic. We stayed at the Rustic Cottages, at $84 a night, the guy in charge could not do enough for you, see the piccy 'Lurv Shack' for an idea of it. All coffee and drinks fresh and free, free razors, shampoo, conditioners etc...free mugs.. and he allowed on his pc for a while. We climbed many mountains, Squaw Peak and Immigrants Peak, upto about 9,500 feet, played in the snow. California currently has upto 1,000 fires at the moment so sometimes the pictures look a bit foggy. The only rain we have seen in our two + ... read more
