After meeting the Welsh guys (previous blog) they told us that they were going down to San Diego which is where we headed so we could meet up have a few nights out. After a rather strange train journey in which there was no food on the train and not enough seats we arrived in San Diego with no idea where the hostel was that the guys from wales had recommended called the Banana Bungalow (strange name but it was a yellow hostel). After a tram journey and a bus journey we managed to stumble upon it by accident by this time gone 9pm at night and we had been traveling all day and were pretty damn tired. As soon as we get there Barry walks over wearing a dress so me and Kim both start ... read more

The journey to San Diego was relatively quick, we stopped a few times along the way once for Ben who was still feeling unwell and once for fuel (gas), that was an experience in itself. The hostel at San Diego was very luxurious compared to the LA hostel we had stayed in previous and was set up in such a way as to encourage socialising. We checked in and, in preparation for the overnight camping we had planned, went shopping for camping gas and tents, (after Ben ham-handedly destroyed mine in Australia). The following day we crossed the US boarder into Mexico and Tijuana, the difference was instantly noticeable, shanty town style buildings, crumbling sidewalks and pushy market sellers. After fighting off a barrage of taxi drivers we boarded a bus, where I think the driver ... read more

I've had some good weekends out in san diego. During the week its mostly going to uni and doing uni work but weekends typically involve going out then sleeping the next day. Mardi gras was a highlight. Last week saw the strokes at UCSD which was really good. Saw Redman at a free concert put on by my university. Unfortunately haven't been that good at taking my camera out except for the big events and trips so not much to show you around san diego. The clubs downtown are decent with some good house. Theres lots of hip hop clubs which are really sleazy- the dancing is a lot more like dry humping than dancing. Theres a place called Dave and Busters which is like timezone with lots of video games and pool tables and has ... read more

Last night we saw one of the best bands of the modern age in san diego. Tickets were a bit pricey but you only live once. When it started, at about 12.51 the place errupted. What band was it you ask me (anything)?? Well it's kinda hard to explain. x... read more

Boo!! We wandered back over the mexico-U.S border in a still-quite-drunk-from-last-night-daze-state and are now back staying with our wonderful friends in san diego. It's my birthday today, yayyy! Last night we went out in ensenada to celebrate. Was a night of much margeritas and tequila, which did a good job of ruining me (see other entry). Mexico is a cool place, we made the most of the hot weather and the drink. Spent half the time in ensenada, on the pacific side of the baja peninsula, and the other half in san felipe, on the gulf coast. Grace would like to let her friends know that they will be disowned if they do not send her messages of love and worship through this website. She writes it as well. Bad friends, bad, bad friends. Also, ... read more

Hi again... I must cover a few things that might not make any sense. One of those things is the "+#" thing, which pretty much means X how many nights into the holiday we are... so when I get to europe it'll be like +60etc whatever... so just incase you dont know what I mean heh. As I type this, it's our 17th night here... Ill write "this" journal in a week or so. I can't remember dates at this point, so Ill have to actually use a pen and jot down some of those more boring details (for your viewing pleasure exclusively) now let us begin .... Wednesday Morning we awoke from our slumber in the Santa Monica hostel at about 9am (quite early for us) and did the usual morning stuff like shower and ... read more

Having said farewell to the endless esculators in Vegas and the speed chasing cop from the unknown Area 51, Chris and I greeted our venture into California's Death Valley with slight apprehension. It's not every day that I get to tour an area known as the hottest place on earth. Although, being March, I expect we'll be okay. The first scheduled stop hit the heart strings for both of us, as it was known as 'Scotty's Castle'. Chris approached the ticket window with his strong Glaswegian accent, attempting to claim a free ticket for heritage reasons; no luck. I approached the window with the same reasoning adding a female touch, and was at least told of where to go, for free. We traipsed up the hill to Scotty's final resting place and paid our respects to ... read more

Old Town San Diego Hotel The first time we went to San Diego was back in 2001. We got a room at a hotel near Sea World in San Diego. It was a discount hotel that had low prices, low amenities, but was located near some great attractions and areas of San Diego. Eating vegan in San Diego is easy. Lots of restaurants to choose from and a variety of options. ... read more
