Hey everybody, Ryan and I are about to begin our world travels and we are both pretty stoked about it! I'll give you a little background as to why we decided to take this trip. After a trip to Fiji last summer, we both decided to make a trip of epic proportions. In Fiji, which was my first ever real international trip outside of North America, I had an awesome time meeting all types of people and learning about the culture there. I found these to be major influences in deciding to travel again. Another major factor was a bit more humbling. The realization that, although the US is a large and very influential country in the world, it's really just a small part of it. The fact that Ryan and I had the opportunity to ... read more

Ithaca When you set out on your journey to Ithaca, pray that the road is long, full of adventure, full of knowledge. The Lestrygonians, the Cyclops, the angry Posiedon - do not fear them. You will never find such as these on your path, if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine emotion emotion touches your spirit and your body. The Lestrygonians, the Cyclops, and fierce Posiedon you will never encounter, if you do not carry them within your soul, if your soul does not set them up before you. Pray that the road is long. That the summer mornings are many, when, with such pleasure, with such joy you will enter ports seen for the first time. Stop at Phonecian markets, and purchase fine merchandise, mother-of-pearl, coral, amber, and ebony, and sensual perfumes of ... read more

Well after a pretty amazing two days in the Grand Canyon, we didn't know what to expect from the next part of the trip. We were heading back to sunny California and to the beautiful city of San Diego. But to get to San Diego we had to do the long trip from the Canyon. I will tell you now that it was not a nice trip, due to a few reasons. We drove to Flagstaff airport and found out that our plane was delayed so we just kicked back and relaxed in the small airport (it only had one shop) and sat in the cafe for quite a while waiting for our plane to arrive. The problem was that we were catching a connecting flight that took off 10 minutes after our plane was ... read more

LA The flight from New York to LA was OK took about 6 hours. The hotel I stopped in was lush the room had 2 double beds, a huge TV, and I got to have a bath - pure luxury - tried to make the most of it! SAN DIEGO Then got the Greyhound to San Diego which took a couple of hours. The hostel I'm in is good - right on the beach! Got chatting to a German girl who had a hired a car so went to San Diego Zoo with her which was good fun. The panda bears were so cute! MEXICO Went to Mexico for the day which was good - although more alcohol oriented then cultural. Did a tequila thing where they pore it straight in to your mouth. Then went ... read more

Just a quick note, I will be back in Phoenix next week, resting and preparring for my next adventure, the three month Outward Bound adventure from The Rockies to Ecuador. When I get to Phoenix, I will be able to upload pictures to the site, so look for that. Everyone is invited to Rula Bula (in Tempe at 4th and Mill), where we will try to answer the question, "how much beer can drew's beard hold?"... read more

Fri 9/8 - Sun 9/10: San Ramon/San Francisco Friday I drove back to the bay area to stay with Scott and Christy in San Ramon. I got into town while he was at work, and killed a few hours at Barnes & Noble reading “Here is My Best,” a collection of writers choices of their own best work, and a brief blurb describing why they thought it was their best, or their least worst as most seemed to say. That night we caught up, watched college football in all of its High Definition glory, ate a great meal and put back some beers. Later I showed him some pics from the trip which was a bit of a mistake, because digital photography encourages you to take 20 pictures of the same thing. I will edit the ... read more

Managed to endure a 4 hour bus ride to San Diego, home of legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy. You may not of heard of him but he's kind of a big deal around here. We had heard of a hostel right on the beach but couldn't get in on the Monday probably as everywhere was packed out for Labor Day holidays so we stayed slightly further south at Ocean Beach for one night. It was cool but there was no drinking allowed after 11, what the f up with that??!! But it was ok cos we just took some beers down to the beach and sat round a fire while some locals were playing guitar, very SoCal dude. We did have to put up with a few wackos, one in particular wanted to know if we were ... read more

Well Ladies and Gentleman, the time has come. I have been speaking of this for years and finally decided, its time. After six years I finally left Davis, so long overdue. It was a good run and an end to an era to say the least. Next chapter please. So to Asia it is. Asia why you ask? Well, I've lived in Europe, South America, and Africa is hopeless. This is probably one of the most different regions left to explore, and I have a bad yellow fever disease. For the next year it will be all of S.E Asia...Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. To my family and friends, it was great spending the last remaining days with you in the States. Take care to all and I'll talk to you soon. ... read more

Well we hit up San Diego. Had tons of fun. Arrived around noon, found a tiny mexican restaurant for lunch. Then took on the ocean. We went on a Kayaking tour to some sea caves. Wasn't that spectacluar, mostly left us sore and wet. After we decided to rent some body boards. Got a few rides in, then the Sting Rays started to come out, after Jordan stepped on one (didn't get stung) we decided to call it a day. Headed out that night to a great place downtown. One price got you a huge salad buffet, and waiters brought around 16 different types of meat to sample. Was delicious. Next day we were up bright and early to take on the ocean again. THis time it won. We had surfing lessons. It was hard work ... read more
