Going it alone: the road to San Diego My route from Joshua Tree to San Diego was all planned out, I was to take the scenic route, as advised by a Ranger, and was really looking forward to the journey, it encompassed a Desert Park, a few vineyards, a couple of quaint towns and sounded great. I started off touring the part of Joshua Tree park I hadn’t covered the day before – the route from Twenty-Nine Palms to Cottonwood Springs. I hadn’t planned to spend much time there, having spent all day there on the Saturday, but once you start getting out the car and wandering around, you just want to see more. The southern part of the park was quite different from the Mojave Desert section – and not just by the absence of ... read more

Our 30th Wedding Anniversary today! Had a lie in and then started the next leg of the journey. Thank goodness for AAA route planner, got us on the road really easily, think I would like a Sat Nav if we did it again though. Stopped at a view point on the way which was swarming with ground squirrels. They were fun to watch. Arrived at San Diego which again was nothing like i had imagined, it is so vast. In England if you arrive in Brighton, that’s what you find - the town, the beach, here there is town, town and more town and beach, beach and more beach! Had a job finding our hotel, it was all very confusing. Staying at Holiday Inn Mission Plaza, which is a bit like the Travelodge but not as ... read more

It took us 8 hours to get to San Diego with two stops, one for gas and one for lunch. The dunes took us by surprise after entering CA. and were neat to see. See pics. 30 mins. after setting up in the RV park they had a 4.5 earthquake, welcome to CA. !!!!!! I know I will repeat this throughout this trip, but I really love San Diego !! Beautiful setting, awesome weather, no humidity, lots of ocean and no bugs. Whats not to like about that? Hope these pictures post OK and you enjoy. We are having a blast. Hope you all stay safe back home, I ... read more
