I left my house 12 hours ago and I have only made it as far as LAX! My flight out of SFO was delayed, and I missed my connection to Costa Rica. So in other words, I am screwed. I tried to sleep on the floor at LAX last night, but it didn't quite work out. I would've gotten a hotel, but by the time I realized I was screwed in was 2:00am and the ticket counters opened at 5:00am this morning, so I decided to stay. United now has me on a flight to JFK at 1:00 this afternoon, connecting with a LAN Chile flight to Lima. I only have a 2 hr. layover in JFK, so if we're delayed, I might be sleeping in JFK tonight! Oh yea, TACA airlines has my luggage and ... read more

Greetings, my apologies for such long lapses in postings. This has been a busy week where much was done and seen. My courses have accelerated to warp speed over the past week. In my cinematography class we spent almost 3 back to back days shooting 4 different 16mm projects. In my independent producing class we had to present our "pitch" (the concept for our movie) to a special guest speaker who works in Hollywood as a screenwriter/director and has built up a reputation as a pitch expert. He gave us tips and tricks on how to improve so that we're the best we can be when it comes time for the final pitch showdown with a Universal executive. That in a nutshell is what has been happening school wise, but I'd like to tell you about ... read more

I'm On The Drug That Killed River Phoenix..... .......but more on that later! Sorry to all for the lack of updates, It has been crazy busy around here the last few days, so let me fill you in. Like i mentioned in the last update, we arrived on the 3rd and from there.....pretty much fell straight to sleep. Being on the go for upwards of 24 hours, sitting in one spot, really takes it out of you. I dunno how I let myself forget that every time i travel. But, moving on, sporting nothing more than a numb arse, on the 4th we checked out Vans, making a few appointments to see some for sale. The first one apparently didn't exist, he told us he was at #600, but the street numbers went 599, 601, 603...etc ... read more

Around this area of Los Angeles it's common knowledge that if your out on your own any later than 10pm at night you might as well stick a sign on your back that says mug me. As it turns out the USC campus is located just on the fringe of that infamous criminal hotspot; South central L.A. Also home to the neighborhood of Compton, an area well known for its magical ability to boost the street cred of any hard core gangsta rapper. Now I must admit I've been warned a number of times about going out on my own at night, mostly by individuals who heard from a friend of a friend that they knew a guy who had a sister who's best friend's cousin got jumped while they were walking home from class one ... read more

Last night I had a chance to experience a little piece of what L.A. has to offer once the sun goes down and I can safely say without a shadow of a doubt that the L.A. night life is one of the most surreal, intense, mind boggeling experiences known to man. The weekend started as such: Fernando, my Brazillian roommate rented a car with his friend Eric (also from Brazil) This was on Friday. On Saturday, the three of us along with Jay, our other roommate from Montreal got, up early, showered, dressed and piled into the rental to go exploring up the coast. The first stop was Santa Monica, in itself not a new experience since I visited here when I was in L.A. last summer but this time around I was able to see ... read more

Today I'd like to talk about some of my classes in a little more detail. So far I have had 2 classes in my independent production course and 1 class in my Cinematography course. My indie production course is great because the professor is a seasoned director and producer of several independent features and he's loaded with useful tips on how to cheat the system and work your way into Hollywood. His name is Jeffery Obrow and if you look him up on IMDB.com you can see some of the movies he's made. Now granted this man is not what you might call an artistic genius. His films thus far have mostly been campy horror/thriller flicks of the B genre, but what is inspiring about him is that even though his films have never really pushed ... read more

Hello-Hello, Well I suppose I have quite a bit of information to fill people in on. So....where do I begin... Well first off let me inform you that I have arrived in sunny Los Angeles and have started my courses at USC. The real fun, or should I say nightmare was getting here via Amtrak. To make a long and excruiciatingly boring story short I'll cut right to the chase and tell you that my train arrived 22 hours behind schedule. Yes, thats right, 22 hours. The problems arose when my initial train out of buffalo came in 4 hours late and then it just started to build on through there. We were stuck in San Antonio for 9 hours waiting for a new Engine to pick us up and and then we were plagued by ... read more

Just a quickie just so you know I made it this far!.. Big hold ups all the way over...from Philippine airline people saying I won't get into the states w'out an ongoing ticket....call to Grant, insist its ok...finally they let me on...then a 2 hour delay anyway....then to Sydney, then to Manilla...about 8 hours from Sydney....great to be back in hot and sweaty weather...I'll save some stories of Manila til later...extensive security checks, lightning strike that knocked out the power...more delays...then the 13 hour flight to LA....caught up with Grant, pulled into a little roadside bar and had a couple of Fosters..... Funny thing about airplane temperatures and country of origin...when I flew last year with Austrian Air the temp was quite warm....this time with Phiolippine Air they keep the temp just above freezing!.....anyone flown with ... read more

Ok so I'm still in LA stuck in the books and have a little more than a month to go on this whole bar exam experience...but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel so I'm starting my journal today. Hopefully in a little more than 30 days I will look back on tonight and realize that the nightmare is finally over. On a more positive note, I'm really excited about being able to share this experience with everyone who logs on...at this stage of the game so many things in life are open to who knows what and it couldn't be more exhilirating. Now I've just got to buckle down and get through the next 4+ weeks. I feel like the little engine...I think I can, I think I can, I think ... read more
