So, I decided to put my own scavenger hunt together for 2020. All you have to do is place yourself in a photo with the object, or location that I have listed. The goal is to maintain social distancing, while having some fun. First three who complete this will win a prize, probably a gift certificate. Remember, do not take this list literally, and creativity is the key! 1. Find Waldo 2. Peanuts 3. Library 4. Musical Instrument... read more

With the "Shelter in Place" order now covering California, and many other states, what will you do with your new found leisure time? Perhaps there will be a spike in births come next December and January? If you have young children at home, I certainly sympathize with your challenge. They need to maintain their online classes, and fill a huge void created by their after school activities, like sports, arts, and social activities. Having a smart phone, internet access, social media, and You Tube will undoubtedly be a bigger part of our lives during this quarantine period. For those of you who can work form home, this will be a great opportunity. I would imagine a huge increase in productivity, without bothersome coworkers, and a long commute to and from work. Even though I am mostly ... read more

We made it to Smithers, BC on July 30th and stayed at the Fort Telkwa RV Park which was a little bit outside the city limits of Smithers. It was a very nice RV park that sat right on the river with every amenity that you would need PLUS they had FREE RV washing (which we were in dire need of). We ended up staying here 2 nights to get ourselves a plan as to how to proceed from here since the roads we needed to take were still closed due to the wildfires. We ended up having to go about 300 miles out of our way to get back to the States which took an extra day. It wasn't a big deal considering the devastation that the Canadians were facing. As we were traveling through ... read more

If not for my good fortune in life, I might be one of those, a traveler who lies about their trips. But I have been on many trips, including many so-called "trips of a lifetime" that people always seek. But since I am no longer in search of the perfect meal, or perfect hotel, much less the perfect trip, I am as honest and practical as I can be. Certainly, I hear many glowing comments from fellow travelers. Once in a while, their advice pays off, such as my trips to see Angkor Wat in Cambodia, or to traverse the Trans Siberian Railway across Russia. Once in a decade, some bad advice places me in less than ideal places and situations, but those are rare. I am fortunate that most of my trips have worked out ... read more

Save all to OneDrive - Personal I know the Nifty Fifty Club has only a few members among my readers. The Barnes couple have done all fifty, and many of you have achieved well into the forties, like Denise, Susie, Sandy, Denny, Maria, and others. I saw this story today, and thought it would be interesting to get someone else's take on the idea. From reporter, Trevor Hughes: "The rules of my visits were pretty simple: I couldn’t count a simple drive through or airport stop. Instead, I had to either sleep there, visit some sort of monument or point or interest, and, if possible, eat and drink something local. From cheese curds to Navajo tacos and lobster r... read more

How many times have you been told a certain place or tourist site is the "best" you will ever experience? Unfortunately, more times than not, these sites can be a big letdown, like Machu Picchu, or The Alamo in San Antonio. But let it be known that travel, though often motivated by famous landmarks, is about making some kind of connection, either to people or experiences. Here are mine: Stonehenge, after a long bus ride out there, I thought to myself, "Is that it?" After everything I saw and read, it is quite a sad little place, with rather shabby souvenir stands, and a single rope blocking tourists from touching the rocks. Why did I waste my time? I consider it one of the biggest disappointments of my travels!! Equator, was interesting, but now I find ... read more

One of my favorite readers suggested I do an email about funny or unusual airline stories. Unfortunately, most fall into the unusual or sad, rather than funny or happy, that being the nature of airline travel these days. But here is a feeble attempt at it, with an open invitation to each of you for adding your own true stories. One of the worst things that can happen is when a nearby passengers has gas, by that, I mean flatus, farts, stinky, and sickening. We were on our way back from Costa Rica, sitting in First Class no less. The lady in front of us, and I use the term lady quite loosely, is farting up a storm. So, I grab a newspaper or magazine and starting fanning the air. The couple next to her has ... read more

Here are some more, along with some of your favorites. This has been my best travel quote, which I have used often with my best travel friend, Mike, as we have traveled around the world. He is also a small town guy, from Los Banos, CA. I grew up in Kingsburg, CA, then a small mostly Swedish-American hamlet of 3,000 people. Here is the quote: "Not too bad for a couple of simple farm boys from the country......." But this is a close second, in one of my favorite songs, "The Boxer' by Paul Simon: Now the years are rolling by me They are rocking evenly And I am older than I once was And younger than I'll be But that's not unusual No, it isn't strange After changes upon changes We are more or less ... read more

So here we are starting the month of August and while we have been gone for 108 days we are a little sad to see this trip come to an end. We have traveled through 21 states, stayed at 26 RV parks, 2 Marathon Coach parking lots, 1 Prevost parking lot, and our friends/families houses in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and Idaho. We even had to spend 1 night in a hotel while they were fixing our Coach at Marathon. We have been to a wedding, danced to Zydeco music in Louisiana, saw fire flies dance in the night, listened to wonderful heartfelt Gospel music, visited Billy Graham's Library, attended Sunday Church Service at an RV park in Tennessee where God is number one in everyone's lives and you really feel it when they said it, reconnected ... read more
