Breakfast included another omelette freshly cooked with potatoes on the side this time. Yummy and thought I’d load up as we have a drive today and going to do a bit of walking too. Not sure when we’ll have someone cooking fresh for us so took advantage of the opportunity presented by Embassy Suites. Also had the orange and passionfruit juice which was so refreshing. We hit the road right on 8.00am as planned heading to North Arizona. Weather is sunny and a bit cooler when we left but was still forecast to reach 40 degrees in Phoenix but as we are heading for the mountains it will hopefully not be much hotter than 30 today. It was amazing to see so many cactus plants along the drive and suddenly when we reached a certain altitude ... read more

Alarm went off at 6am and after having had a pretty good sleep and figuring out how to turn the stupid shower on we went down for the complimentary breakfast which they were actually charging non IHG members USD 20- each. I had a light breakfast with some cereal bran with toast and strawberry jam with an interesting strawberry and banana yoghurt (I’m not convinced they go well together ?). I asked for a coffee and they give me a coffee urn (seriously one cup is enough to start the day !). We checked out at 7.40 am and were back on the free shuttle for the 10 minutes trip to LAX to get our Southwest flight. We had already been checked in using the early bird check in system when we we left Brisbane and ... read more

12th August, 2022 Another early start this morning as we had a lot of miles to cover. Had breakfast of pancakes at the hotel and we were on the road by 7am. First stop was Glen Canyon Dam. This is the sister dam to the Hoover Dam and still a bloody big place. Joe dropped us at the start and we could walk the length of the road over it and take pics and picked us up at the other end. While we were taking pics, a truck towing a very large houseboat came across the bridge. You could feel the vibrations and bouncing of the weight of it. Not a very nice experience. On the road again to Anteloupe Canyon. Another wow moment. I didn’t realise that photos of this place are used as Microsoft ... read more

On charge nos bagages et ... read more

... read more

One thinks of a pedigree as a sanctioned stamp of good breeding. Thoroughbred racehorses. Edwardian landed gentry. But comic books? These aren't just any comics but specimens from the Golden Age of American comics, 1938-1956, including some purchased in a U.S. concentration camp. A comic book pedigree is the rare designation applied to a collection of vintage material gathered by a single collector at the time of publishing. There are currently 61 pedigrees widely recognized in the comic book world. The Bette Okajima Pedigree is one of them. This pedigree is something of a legend. One theory has it that the collector was a 10-year-old girl at the Manzanar concentration camp in the California high desert. Another speculates that the Okajima signature on the covers was actually by the hand of Bette's brother. Would a girl collect ... read more
