We enjoyed a potluck and campfire on Christmas Eve with many new friends. There was even an outdoor Christmas tree! Patti & Karl coordinated the group gathering with friends here at La Posa South and some that stay in resorts in town. There was plenty of food and fellowship. Nice to be around so many friendly nomads as we spent a holiday away from family. Lois decorated the RV indoors with festive pine garlands, string lights and ornaments. On Christmas day, Patti, Karl, Stacey, & Walt joined us in Milo for a Christmas dinner of beef tenderloin with trimmings.... read more

This is Tom's and my 53rd Christmas together. As Tom and I had lunch today, it occurred to me we have come “full circle”. In no particular order let us see just how… In 1969 we left Seattle in early September for our life together as Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, from our parents’ homes. In 2022 we left the Seattle area in late September for our life together as Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, retired. “Homeless from our 30-year residence”. It was just the two of us. Far from home to Pensacola FL. Career ahead This year, it is just the two of us, in Yuma, far from home. Retirement ahead Our first home was a rented mobile home in a mobile home park in Florida. Our new home is our own Arctic Fox 37-foot 5th wheel, ... read more

Our campsite for the winter was at La Posa South BLM (Bureau of Land Management) just south of Quartzsite. We joined Patti & Karl, Stacey & Walt, Moira & Chuck, and Kimberly & David in a great site that backed up to a wash (a dry creek, most of the time). The site is about a mile and a half from the BLM entrance.BLM land is boondocking; there is no electricity available and water is centrally located. We get electricity from our solar panels (mostly) or our on-board generator feeding our lithium batteries. We fill 5 gallon jugs with water and pump it into our fresh water tank. Mike installed a propane adapter on the RV, so we can hook up a seven gallon portable LP tank. We bought a 36-gallon "honey wagon" to empty our ... read more

Our next stop was Tombstone Territories RV Resort located southeast of Tucson. We visited nearby Tombstone- walkiing the boardwalk streets and watching a re-enactment of the Shoot-out at the OK Corral. Mike found a new belt buckle in one of the Tombstone gift shops. Lois picked up postcards and we bought some pecans and pistachios at a farm in Benson. The next day we drove into Saguaro National Park East. The Visitor Center movie was interesting and worth sitting through. We drove the 8-mile one-way loop with great overlooks and stopped to hike part of the Mica & Cactus Forest Trails. It was like being on another planet.... read more

This one was a rough turnaround. I'd just gotten home from a month in Africa. Lots of fun, but lots of busy, and completely exhausting. The trip home was brutal (did you read about the 5 cities in 3 days?). What's more: I was suffering jet lag, I almost immediately got a sinus infection when I returned to the Washington climate, and there was the whole matter of retrieving my lost baggage... 4 days at home and then off again on another jaunt. Now Javan and I were headed to Mexico. We woke up at 2:30am to leave the house by 3 so that we could get to the airport by 5 for a plane that boards at 6. Cutting it pretty close, actually. Right out the gate, I started making mistakes. I forgot the bag ... read more

Here it is, the 27th, we’ve been here in Quartzsite since the 10th, and we need an update, at long last. It has been a very interesting couple weeks in a very different kind of place. When we checked in 2 weeks ago, the hostess invited us to sign up for the Thanksgiving Day potluck at this park. And we weren’t even checked in yet. Natalie signed up to bring her favorite potato casserole, even though she had not yet even tried either oven in this RV. We came to Quartzsite, AZ to attend a rally of Campers for Christ, which took place the week of the 14th. We met some fantastic people and had an absolutely outstanding experience. The rally itself was held at a BLM campground just a mile north of town because the ... read more

Wild wind greeted us when we arrived in Las Vegas, and it came back to send us on our way out, with gusto. As we travelled toward Quartzsite, AZ we saw more new things along the way. The vegetation changed of course from scrub to wiry shrubs to cactus groupings. We saw NOT ONE ANIMAL - no cattle, horses, farms,1 barn, and no water either. But the strangest feeling was the road. We had to leave interstate highways so most of our route was 2-lane US highway, and roads were straight as far as the eye could see. And much of the road through the desert included miles and miles of dips and rises which sometimes felt like a roller coaster. Short stretches even included the old Route 66. Throughout the 2-lane drive, we did not ... read more

We flew out of Oakland on Thursday morning. Southwest internet was out but no problem I had downloaded a movie on Prime just in case. The flight was exactly the length of the movie so time went by fast. As we were looking for something to eat we ran into our neighbors Greg and Michele. They were headed home after a trip to Sedona. They gave us some tips and some maps. Thank you Michele and Greg. We picked up a rental car at Avis and drove to Sedona. The drive to Sedona took two hours and was mostly freeway. Sedona is beautiful with soaring red rocks. The whole city is said to be a vortex with some spots having the energy crackling most in intensity. I did not know what a vortex was so I ... read more

This was another day of astounding geology and geography. The Painted Desert is exactly that. Pictures cannot capture the vastness of the area of rolling multicolored hills and surprisingly diverse vegetation. There have been autumn rains that have turned the desert green and filled it with blooming flowers, which was one of our hopes for traveling here at this time.... read more
