April 19: We got up early thinking we would get an early start for Valle Vista Golf and Country Club. We had to get ice, went for breakfast at Canyon Café and needed go to the Wells Fargo bank too. We got to Valle Vista later than expected. A nice hot day. Luckily we were able to rent a golf cart which had a cooler to put our water in. We golfed nine holes – didn’t make par on any of them but had lots of fun and laughs. We went to Five Guy’s and Fries for lunch, then Baskin Robin’s for dessert. Sooooo good! On our way home we took Stockton Hill Road to find Vock Wash and hopefully see wild horses. We only saw cows but the scenery was beautiful. We got back to ... read more

April 1: April fools day. I considered telling Jan that a tarantula was crawling up my arm when I first woke up, but then I decided that was NOT a good idea! We went out for breakfast at the Canyon Cafe. Then Jan went to the art show. Jan had a good day. She sold a number of postcards and three 8x12 prints to visitors from the state of Wyoming. Jim and I went to visit Lewis. Lewis is feeling quite a bit better but not at his best yet. Jim took us out for Fish Friday at the Canyon Cafe. It was good. We met a prospector from Idaho at the restaurant. He showed us some gold. Went home and sat outside until well after dark. The stars hung in the sky like jewels. Went ... read more

Another month has rolled on. Got up at 7:30 am. Had a restless sleep but I felt great. I finished the adobe walls and built a bed extension for Jim. We headed off to Kingman after Jan set up for the Art Show at the Chamber of Commerce in Dolan Springs. We went to pick up Jim at the Ring residence and he took us out to the Rutherford Restaurant. We had pot roast, all you can eat. It was delecious and filling. We then went to the revival. It was great too. There was not a lot of people. Jim knew everyone there. There was a bonfire and then a gorgeous sunset. We headed home after the sermon. We got home at 10:00 am. That is our latest for staying up in a week. PARTY ... read more

Had another good sleep., but was awake at 6:00 am, laid in bed until 7:00 am. Isn’t that what holidays are all about? We had instant decaf in real mugs, then eggs and hash browns for the ‘hard working man’. Actually I did work hard. I cut rafters for the adobe roof and then nailed them into place. I also screwed down the sheathing. Tomorrow I will install the tin on the roof if it’s not windy. The weather today was quite nice. It was in the low 70’s (20C). But a friend of ours, Jim from New York who is currently here in Arizona also, called saying that it snowed in Kingman 35 miles (55 km) south of us this morning. Later in the afternoon we went for cherry pie at Slim and Martha’s place. ... read more

It was a chilly night in the desert 28 F (-2 C). I had a muffin for breakfast and Jan had mini wheat cereal. I was up on the roof at nine am putting tin on. I was all done by 11 am. You could say a lion on a hot tin roof since I am a bit big for a cat. We went to visit our friend Lewis who has been quite ill with what he suspects is food poisoning. Jan made him toast and tea. He gave us a big water tank for water at our place and gave Jan a keyboard (piano). We went across the street from his place to meet his neighbors who come from Montana state. Then we went into town to hook up to WiFi and go to Family ... read more

Dust Storm Day We went to bed at 9:00 pm last night, and had a cozy restful sleep in the tiny adobe. The solar lights were completely dead and so we had no lights except for a flaslight. Was awake at 5:30 am to the cooing of Gamble Quail and a donkey baying a couple of streets over. Had sausage and eggs and toast for breakfast and coffee. COFFEE WAS INTERESTING . We had no coffee mugs… no decafe coffee … except for coffee maker pouches. Well, they always say to improvise, so… decided to boil a pouch of that in a pot of water.. That leaked out so had to strain it. Then… we drank it out of water bottles. Mid morning we headed to Kingman to Walmart and Home depot. We bought 2 mugs ... read more

We Made It! We were up before the break of dawn after a good sleep. We had a healthy breakfast of bacon and eggs at the Ramada Inn, and headed out at 7:15 am. We drove down I-15 through the northwest corner of Arizona into Nevada. We stopped at Virgin River Casino for 16 ounce ham steak and eggs breakfast. We were not hungry but we had 'take out' , speculating on Easter ham dinner for tonight. The clocks in Nevada are on Pacific DST. We spent four dollars on the penny slot machines, and our playing was short lived. We were on the road again at 8:45 am. I missed an exit turn in Las Vegas so we took a mini tour as we sorted our way back out. I fueled up in Boulder City, ... read more

Only two hours from Las Vegas, Meadview, Arizona, is a a true find. The little town offers 5 restaurants, 3 bars, and a wonderful full service market that has gas, diesel, and propane. The town also offers two motels, and two RV parks. Why visit Meadview, Arizona? The views are incredible. The little town sits on the Grapvine Mesa which is half way down the Grand Canyon.
