Route 66 Up very early today and its still bloody hot! Grand Canyon here we come! We travel along Route 66, the roads are old and windy and it's not helping my anxiety, but I push on. We are just about to pull into the old gold mining town of Oatman and we can't get through because the road is blocked by Donkeys, we stop the car and next thing we know a donkey has his head in the driver's side window wanting a pat, they're so cute...... ok donkeys go away now we need to get through, no seriously, enough donkeys! Next thing we know we have a few other cars behind us a man gets out and says he needs to get through and starts to shoo them away, we drive about 400 metres ... read more

After a late night arrival (moonless dark night, winding narrow roads), we awoke to a beautiful forest campsite. The only draw back was that we were 43 miles from the North Rim and it was cool mountain air (elevation 8,000 ft). We waited for sunshine and headed out on the motorcycle at noon. Rode through beautiful pasture land and forests and only saw two Elk (expected buffalo). Hike all afternoon on the west edge of Angel Canyon. The Grand Canyon at that point is 10 miles wide and 5,000 feet deep. Too big to comprehend. We started home late and stopped briefly at Imperial point on the east side of Angel Canyon. Rode home in the dark and cold, so the heat of our motor home furnace was welcomed. The next day was a rest and ... read more

We spent the day at the Grand Canyon today. It was quite cloudy and misty when we first arrived and I was worried we wouldn't get a good view out across the canyon. We spent some time reading the information and watching the video about the canyon, during which the weather improved. By the time we had had some lunch, it was fairly bright and sunny and the views were a lot clearer. We moved away from the hustle of the visitor center and got some really good (and quiet!) views from the rim trail. Massive storm clouds were moving in from the west which looked quite spectacular. We retreated to the car when the storm hit as it lashed it down with thunder, lightening and hail. It soon passed over and was warm and sunny ... read more

I got up nice and early this morning to drive out to the Grand Canyon. The drive to the Grand Canyon was a bit longer than I thought but it was a fairly nice. Getting to the Entrance of the National Park gives you no Idea of what you are about to see. Far be it from me to talk about spiritual experiences but walking through the trees and actually seeing the Grand Canyon is something that you can not really describe. Seeing it on TV or even IMAX gives you no idea. I am going to add some pictures but as said I doubt that it will make any real impact. The Walk around the Rim is really amazing. The weather was not great but it did not detract from the experience. This is truly ... read more

Hab den Tag am Grand Canyon verbracht. Des is spektakulaer! Hab ein Foto!... read more

We booked an excursion out to the Grand Canyon today - I would advise anybody to go if they ever get the chance, it was absolutely stunning. We went to the west rim which is a bit closer than the south rim and has the Skywalk. This is a glass bottomed bridge which sticks out 70ft at over 4000ft above the bottom of the canyon. Liz is scared of heights so she didn't come out on the bridge but she did get pretty close to the edge! Even for somebody that isn't scared of heights though the glass bridge is quite unnerving. As I first went out and the cliff face just dropped away from me I did feel a little dizzy but as I walked further out I just found it absolutely amazing. The floor ... read more

It had to happen sometime, but it picked a lousy day to do it! Got up early again, had an alfresco breakfast and set off north for the Grand canyon. Around 40 miles north of Williams the sky turned black and we pulled in to put the waterproofs on. (good job I packed them ) The sky up ahead looked even worse, you couldn't see the car in front, let alone a massive canyon! This scuppored the plans to go further north through monument valley. (No one wants a picture ofthere, with a grey sky) At 10,000 feet up the weather became impossible to ride in so heading back south, I pulled in to a forrest park for some shelter, and then powered back to Flagstaff. Here we had a hotdog with slaw and chilli! While ... read more

This morning when we woke up it was beautiful day, so we decided to head off on a hike before it got too hot. We decided to do the Bright Angel Trail which was behind our lodge, because it had water stations along the way! We headed down to the 1.5 mile mark, taking lots of photos on the way. The photos don't really do it justice, it is the most mind blowing place. It is so so massive, thats the best way I can think of to describe it. We got to 1.5 miles and had a bit of a break, then continued down a bit further. Rach (sensibly) decided to start back up and I continued on to the 3 mile mark. To get to the bottom it is 9 miles, and we passed ... read more
