These are pics from Justin's residence. Lots of old cars and mechanical stuff. We went and visited an old woman friend who lived in Austin for 30yrs - her place was nestled down at the bottom of a bank/cliff. Totally secluded. The pic out the window is from her place, as is the blurry pic of her and Justin. Also pics from downtown last nite.... read more

The days are whipping by, and I thought today was Friday. Good thing it's only Thursday. Hit the downtown Juneau nightlife last nite. I feel the smalltown vibe, and like it. Raining still, but not cold. 60's today. Justin is at work, so I will post some more pics here and get the day going. Not sure what's in store for today, but tmrw we are taking the Tram up to OctoberFest - Justin hosting as a Rep from Alaskan Brewery. He said we are gonna be like celebrities doling out free beer. But, that is tomorrow. Oh- yea..... Most of you know I am not a "Dog Person", but rather am "Cat People", but I must say - Justin's two dogs - Otis and Oscar - are making an impact on my perception of dogs. ... read more

NORTH TO ALASKA – day 2 = Friday. I am visiting my Landlady –Karen – who hosted a HUGE party at her palatial estate! Complete with a 6 pc band that were absolute Pro’s. I got to sit in for 2 songs (you knew that was coming). Tons of great food – great people…… The only bummer is that I unknowingly dropped my GoPro camera in the middle of the festivities , and someone ran it over and I am afraid it is toast. LUCKILY- Karen has one too- so I am borrowing hers for the rest of the trip. I will post some of those pics as soon as I can. Not doing too good with finding phone or internet reception out here, and this will continue to be a challenge.... read more

This boat is HUGE ! 9 stories – I am sleeping on a hard plastic patio recliner with two rented blankets and a rented pillow. $7 total. I am on the top floor called The Solarium. We were warned that we should not try to use phones or internet until we stop in Ketchikan, or the roaming fees will kill you. Thus I am writing much of this offline, to post later. Met some nice people on the journey: Marie and Bob – 74 yr old couple traveling the world…..Carl and Shawn – they are the only two people on the Solarium with me. Took Dramamine yesterday, and that stuff is wicked. I spoke to a boat employee who said she takes Bonine, so I bought some for $10. Dramamine is evil, and I didn’t quite ... read more

The Dramamine is finally wearing off – that stuff is evil. Never again hopefully. Slept like a baby though. Today has been this: up at 11am – had two eggs and toast, back to bed. Up at 2pm, had a bloody mary with Marie and Bob - the old couple I met – they are rich and cool. Then back to bed for a catnap until 6pm. Oh how I love sleeping. Sleep. What a concept. You can only sleep when you have absolutely nothing to be accountable for. That is why my cats sleep all day. I would too. BUT- I wanna see the planet up here in Alaska. Super foggy and really cant even see shore all day. Going to hit the restaurant tonite for something other than food I brought, which is running ... read more

Greetings My Friends, This is installation #1 of my travelblog. My direct flight to Seattle on Thursday was one of the smoothest flights I have ever had. Gate 5 in Austin was right outside of The Saxon Pub in the airport, and I got there early. No turbulence and a surreal view of the night sky as the sun disappeared over the horizon of the globe. My Landlady= Karen - picked me up at the Seattle airport, and we drove 1.5 hours to her palatial estate in Port Orchard, Washington. She has a super cool place - 3 bedroom house, with a carriage house / barn, which is where I am staying. Better than a hotel. Her horse = Daisy - a 17yr old mare is sweet. Karen is having a big party today - complete ... read more

Next on the tour was Alaska’s capital town of Juneau. Many campaigns to move the capital to Anchorage have failed and this small tourist town, isolated from roads in or out, is still home to Alaska’s first family. We took and adventurous bike ride which took us to nearby Mendenhall Glacier. The base of the glacier ends at a small lake with a spectacular waterfall. The bike ride was pretty easy as biking goes, but perfect for tourists who haven’t been on a bike for few years. The glacier cooled air was a joy to breath as we rode through paths in the forest where one of our guides provided new words to challenge us by. These were pretty interesting terms such as glacial isostatic relief which describes the unweighting of glacier pressure on the ground, ... read more

Geo: 58.3677, -134.58The ship arrived in Juneau today. Juneau is the only State Capital not accessible by road so it is still a small city of only 31,000 people. We had breakfast in Beach Blanket again today because we had another early excursion. We met at 7:30 and were escorted to our bus. We then took a ride to our whale watching catamaran. We saw a humpback whale about 5 minutes into our cruise which they explained to us was very rare. We also saw eagles as we sailed along. We caught another glimpse of a whale and, while watching that, we saw a calf jumping out of the water (breaching). We watched the whale repeatedly jump for about half an hour. The natuarlist identified the mother of this whale as Flame and was very excited about ... read more

Hello everyone! Wow. I don't really know where to begin. We left Seattle and got our coach to Vancouver. The coach crossed the border from the US into Canada so along the way we had to get off and go through customs. We finally arrived in Vancouver which looks like a really interesting city. No time to stop though, we had queueing to do! We got to the cruise terminal and queued for hours. We had to go through immigration again as our ship was going to sail back into the US. We finally made in onboard our ship at 4.30 and we set sail at 5.00. We found our cabin which is lovely and the window looks right onto the sea. Our ship is mid sized and when full it has 1400 passengers and 600 ... read more

Juneau – a pretty name for a pretty place This was our first stop where we could disembark and stroll through the little town, connect to wifi and be overwhelmed by all the Alaskan curios and gift shops! Soon enough we realised that as in any other touristy place in the world that all the shops sell the same thing..they just swop animals…a bear fridge magnet, a totem pole magnet, a bear cap, Alaskan wolves fleece jackets… We went for a coffee and the best ever Biscotti I have ever encountered in the little town, we had to spend $5 in the shop for each device we wanted to connect with - to be able to use their Wi-Fi, that gave us a chance to touch base and check emails, send messages home that we survived ... read more
