Vancouver to Mazatlan by motorhome We left Vancouver October 28 on a beautiful sunny day to start what we hoped would be a 7 day trip to Mazatlan. The morning we left, the motorhome hit a tree, so we made a stop on the way to the border for a quick patch job that should last the six months. We crossed the U.S. border around 4 pm and the customs officials were not terribly interested in us. Asked if we had any meat or vegetables which we did not and away we went. Having travelled this route now several times, we are always looking for new and perhaps faster or interesting highways we have not been on. Our memories are often faulty, because we will say, Oh we haven't gone that route before, and then, realize, ... read more

Awww, driving to Mexico... Ok, I confess, part of the reason for me to travel to Mexico by car was to save money, so that I could spend more when I got there. Also, I didn't have to rent a car, and I still had my vehicle to haul all my goodies back. LOL! Some of the reasons why people don't drive are: -Language barrier -Kilometers vs. Miles -Thinking that all of Mexico must look like Tijauna, Nogales, Jaurez, Laredo -And, most of all... HORRIFIC, KIDNAPPING, DRUG DEALING MEXICANS AND CORRUPT POLICE...Whatever! It seems like the last one is the most predominant. You need to know, it will be OK! I admit, the border can be very hectic, but 1-2 hours in, you will fall in love with the country. One of the most traveled destinations ... read more

Hola Amigos... Long time, no update. I promise to back date things and catch up but so far so good. Made it to Matzatlan today via a ferry from the mainland. The ride over here was almost 20 hours and smelled of diesel exhaust the whole way. I saw the lunar eclipse from a really cool free camping beach near the ferry in LaPaz a few nights ago. A german guy got his rental car stuck and told us all about the eclipse as we bailed him out with shovels, 2x4s and by letting air out of his tires...The surfing es muy beuno and I am starting to get the hang of it a little bit... We stumbled upon a cool beach and got in the water promptly today. The wavers were small and perfect for ... read more

Leaving Thailand was hard …. but preparing for Mazatlan compensated !!!! Our flight back to LA from Bangkok was uneventful. It was the shortest time we had ever spent in total hours to or from Bangkok ….. 19 hours !!! The worst part was getting back into the USA with the LOOOOONG lines at the customs entry. You hear the Americans often complaining about the long waits at the customs of other countries …. Thailand included … but we have never spent as much time at ANY other customs entry as we did at the LA entry this time. We love flying in and out of LAX … BUT …. the customs procedure has got to be improved !!! After spending a few days in LA, getting our bodies back into sync, and spending time ... read more

I may have found hope for all of you baseball starved and freezing fanatics. The mexican pacific coast league season, starts in late october ends in late febraury. We went last night and it game three of a playoff series, we paid 6 bucks for good seats and and drank beers for a 1.50, hotdogs for a buck, and huge bags of peanuts for .50. The game and the fans were excellent. Like in the old school pre-homer happy days of the big ñeagues, sac bunts, hit and runs, moving em over moving em in.... unfortuntely Mazatlan lost 3-1 but it was good game, the pitchers are al hitting 90 aand they throw way more breking balls down here.... Gonna try to go tonight..... Both nights in town we have gone to a bar decorated with ... read more

Hey all, Went to Mazatlan Mexico over the summer this year for 5 days off this killer deal we scored. it ended up being $343 a person for 5 nights at playa del mazatlan including airfare. for that price i'll go nearly anywhere! We opted to take the shuttle from the airport which ended up being like 6 bucks each and very cramped and super hot. it was like a 25 minute ride apprx and everybody was sweating their asses off so it kinda got you used to the smells of mexico :) we arrive at the hotel and it was surprisinly nice very nice. We upgraded to an ocean view for $11 plus dollars a night and got this fantastic room over looking the ocean and offshore islands. the first day we just laid around ... read more

My Carnival experience improved on a random afternoon in Nassau without any warning at all. My boss happened to be in port because he was cruising with another ship, and we all planned a lunch get together. Sitting down at a Chinese restaurant only staff know how to find, he got right to the point - I was to be pulled off the Carnival Liberty the following morning due to room space issues and budgeting shortages. I was given less than 10 hours to be packed and ready to go through immigration. I was furious, because I hadn’t been given a respectable amount of time to say my goodbyes and visit the beautiful Caribbean ports once last time. I packed my overflowing bags as quickly as possible, then went to the crew bar for one ... read more

Mazatlan North America » Mexico » Mazatlan By Traveller1April 19th 2007After taking our lives in our hands on the road from Durango, we finally landed in Mazatlan. This city is on the central pacific coast of Mexico with a population of about 300,000. It is a working port with mucho selection in treats from the sea. We had planned on staying awhile and then moving up the coast to Los Muchos and taking the ferry over to the Baja. However, after months on the road and encountering the wonderful life in Mazatan we called it a trip and decided to stay. ... read more

I've been pretty bad about writing this cruise....I've been pretty sleepy...don't know why!? Today we were docked in Mazatlan...and it was a pretty fabulous day. I woke up early and ate breakfast on the pool deck....some smoked salmon, grilled tomatoes, and fresh fruit. Then off to shore....I had looked up this horseback riding place online..it was called Ginger's Biligual Horses.....we took a 20 minute cab ride to the far north Beach called Playa Bruja and then we realized it was Sunday. The nice little man informed us that they were closed on Sunday:( But it was an adventure! He also told us that there were horses on this place called Stone Island which was 5 minutes away from where our ship had docked! So we took a cab back to the port where we jumped onto ... read more

Spitting heat upon pale skin. Dust swirls, thick and ominous like mountainous fog, yet there is little silence and zero solitude unlike the celestial palaces where the clouds’ nebulous movements waver. Where a hermit might dwell, there doesn’t exist this exhaustion, this thumping surge of sprawling land and sea convergence. It’s bright and hot, alighting the nonexistent patterns as people and their many motors crush upon the littorals of humanity and culture—their culture. It is their land; the noise and debris, the rising dust-clouds into the eternal heat, the rapturous signals, the stoplights and padding feet across cracked pavement before the next race of holly exhaust pipes flood the streets. The young pubescent girls standing in a 50s truck bed and the workingmen folding leathery hands in deep cooling shadows. Coronas, Pacificos, Dois XX and Sol ... read more
