well everyonei bought a bottle of tequila yesterday for 49 pesos, which is 5 bucks. good deal but i´m sure it tastes like ass. yesterday my host mom taught me how to do laundry here. it is so old school its insane. the washing machine is in the backyard and you have to fill it with water and then drain it and then move the clothes into the spinner and then hang them to dry. its a long process. but when you hang your white clothes up the sun bleaches them and they look so damn clean which is a plus. yesterday i also went to the huge mall here called the gran plaza. it was not cool. most of the clothes were really crappy but stil about 40 bucks canadian it really didn´t make sense ... read more

Hola everyone everything is still going good here. lately i´ve been noticing how different this place is and its pretty amusing. for example, at school there is no bookstore. you take your scchedule to the copy centre and pay (mine was only 130 pesos for 2 books which is about 13 dollars CDN give or take a few) and then you wait for an hour while they photocopy entire books and bind them together....pretty sure thats illegal but whatever its mexico. i thought it was great because usually i´d be spending at leat 130 dollars, not pesos, on two books at the UofC. another thing is how high the sidewalks are. its like a huge step to get on to lots of them which really confused me during the first few days, and then it started ... read more

this morning there was a cockroach on my floor. it was stuck on its back so it couldn´t run at me or anything so i threw my shoe at it several times until it was dead....pretty intense i know. thats the first one i´ve seen in my house at all so thats a plus. the girl that lives next door said she has a lot so i guess i lucked out. besides the massive amount of cockroaches and huge beatles, there is a ton of ants EVERYWHERE. and i´m not talkin tiny little ones, they are about a centimetre long. its pretty gross because sometimes when your walking on the sidewalk you literally have to run through so they don´t crawl on your feet. there´s also a lot of geccos or chameleons or something, i´m not ... read more

i haven´t done much the last two days because of school. yesterday was orientation for the exchange students so we played some strange baseball mexican style and some other random games. It was fun to meet all of the students i hadn´t met yet. everyone is really nice and easy to get along with. there are a lot of canadians- about 10 i think- and a lot of FInnish - about 15 i think. there are about 60 exchange students, so we make up more than 10% of the campus. different I know, but its good because you recognize someone everywhere. i´ve been studying quite a bit for my spanish class which i have again today in a few hours. i´m waiting for everything to start to click, but that has yet to happen. the girl ... read more

Well, today is the first day of classes and i only had one.....basic espanol, which really wasn´t even close to basic. she didn´t explaing anything and just started talking. i know the least of everyone in the class and really had no idea what was going on for most of it. i´m really gonna have to study my butt off for this one so hopefully it pays off. tomorrow is orientation so i´m not sure what we will be doing all day but it should be fun. the campus is literally only 3 buildings, one is the cafeteria with really cheap and really good food, the other is the library which is only 1 floor and nothing compared to the UofC and then there are computers on the second floor, the other building is only three ... read more

So last night mos tof the international students ended up at joe´s oyster bar so it was good to finally meet all of them. Everyone was a little more outgoing after having some cerveza. its two for one there, or 4 for 2, so basically 4 beers for about 7 dollars. its funny cause its corona which i think is one of the expensive beers in canada. as soon as you go in all the waiters run up to you and try to get you to sit in there section, not like whitespot at all. its a weird bar because at first its just like a restaurant and then all of sudden people are dancing everywhere. after that we went to fiesta land which is a huge white castle ish thing right on the beach. theres ... read more

So mango is my new favorite food i´ve decided, and i think everyone would agree if they tried one here. Last night was my host mother´s birthday, so a whole bunch of their family came over. the younger girls spoke english so it was good, but then they left. so picture this, 20 people around a table all drunk and speaking spanish really fast, and then me, sitting at the end of the table having no idea what the hell is going on. it was pretty entertaining. occassionally someone would talk to me in spanish and then i would respond by butchering their language. good times. this morning i got really lost because i was reading the map completely wrong. I was trying to find the immigration place to get my student visa, and ended up ... read more

Hola! Well i made it safe and sound to Mazatlan wich is basically a sauna right now. I met some other canadians coming for exchange at LAX which was a huge and disgustingly crowded airport, so that passed the time. my host family was at the airport waiting for me with a sign, i was pretty pumped about that. The mother speaks no english and neither does the son and I{ve been with them most of the time so I{ve learned a lot already. the dad speaks english quite well and so does the daughter which is good. My room is basically a second tiny house behind the host families, so i have my own room, bathroom, and study area with a desk and such. i think its one of the nicer houses. yesterday was the ... read more

This well kept lovely area is finally on the cruise line stops. Not good news to those Americans and Canadians that have been living there for years because it was truly inexpensive, still is but that will change. The new multi-million dollar golf course that will be completed in two years has the cost of housing skyrocketing. It is such a quaint city where the old town reaches the sea and the people are very friendly. I am considering moving there myself in the near future. I spend eight days there and every day the weather was special even when it was misty in the morning. It is fairly easy to get to as Continental flys directly into the Mazatlan airport. The drive down from Texas is about seven hours. People actually know how to drive ... read more
