Pak prisly zovialni, hlucne a vsechny do jedne skarede letusky American Airlines.

So our journey begins with the dynamic duo leaving London Heathrow on 15th September with heavy heads and scratchy voices after a party hard week or so on the London and Twyford scene. The journey started better than expected with upgraded seats on the flight to Mexico city (¨Thank god for that¨, said Mr Ell as he looked upon his expanding girth). Four rather average movies and we touched down in Mexico City! The delight of an upgraded flight was quickly soured with the ridiculous amount of time it took to get through immigration. Thankfully Ell had the presence of mind to present his British passport rather than his Australian or it could have been into the back room (in more ways than one!)....whaaat! Anyway, we finally arrived safely at our basic but clean hostel and ... read more

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more... - Shakespeare's Henry V, Act III, 1599. Well, judging by past experiences, it should have come at no surprise that new Zealand wouldn’t let me go that easily. Sand-fly bites becoming infected and stopping me flying for 3 days was a pain at first but in hindsight, a good thing. It gave me a chance to settle, to stop and pause, reflect on this past year and what now lies ahead. Instead of heading in an unsettled manic manor that I would have other wise, I calmly and peacefully made my way from Auckland centre and from the city I’d loved and hated, towards the airport. Looking back I could hardly believe I had spent a whole year in New Zealand. It has been an amazing ... read more

Well, have now arrived in the big MC and it´s not so scary but it is as big as imagined and kinda crowded and kinda tiring... There´s so much to see and do that even though I´m staring down the barrel of my last night and half day in Mexico having arrived last Thursday night I don´t even feel like I´ve started scratching the surface. I do like this city. It´s not your sanitised northern European capital that´s for sure but it still offers everything that a capital in northern Europe does and then some. Some say it offers dirt, grime, and possibly more than it´s fair share of crime but that certainly hasn´t been our experience. We´ve found the people have been ever so friendly and helpful, the streets well, a little dirty, the metro, ... read more

So it is time to do a wrap up again, as the days are yet again slipping by. It is amazing how much time speeds up once you are in motion again. For a while there, time slowed right down in Vancouver, and it felt like we were going to be in that little flat for ever... So, here goes an attempt at brevity: Feb 6 We spent this particular day wandering about trying to do as much cultural stuff within walking distance from our hostel as we could handle. First up was the Department of Education, pretty much across the road from our hostel, where we walked around and looked in awe at the fresco's and murals they have on display, most of which by famous communist muralist Diego Rivera: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Rivera. We also checked out ... read more

Jono and I woke with a little more energy, having had a good sleep. Man, that makes a difference. Sleep. I love it! We went for a walk a few kilometers from our hostel to Tlateloco and the plaza de las tres cultculturas. The name refers to the merging of three cultures (pre hispanic, spanish, and contemporary mexico). It was nice to hike out of the hustle and chaos of the city centre. I felt remarkably peaceful while strolling around contemplating history, enjoying the horn-whistle-traffic-chaos free ambiance and breathing in the scent of Jacaranda. But the history of this place is anything but peaceful, from the conquering of the initial Aztrec faction by the Aztecs of Tenochtitlan (who simply built their temples on top of the older Aztec temples), to the human sacrifices by the Aztecs ... read more
