Happy Canada Day to everyone. Once again we were lucky enough to spend Canada with Sarah's family at the beautiful Casa Melville nestled in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. Now that Casa Melville is officially finished it was time for George and Sylvia to welcome the world in the warm and inviting way they do. Canada day began with a flurry of decoration and organization. In the afternoon people began to arrive on the beach to partake in hotdogs (served up by the iron chef Mark Melville -- YAY MAIRK!!!) and fun Canada Day games. The waterfront was a swarm of red and white with the pinnacle of the afternoon being a stirring rendition of 'Oh Canada' and the cutting of a LARGE Canada flag cake. As the evening started we all moved up the ... read more

A brand new journal. I am heading out west in 50 days exactly. I have been planning this move for just under 1 year and can not wait till it happens. I have been so excited about it and consistently talk about it. I never thought about what I will miss until the last month. There are so many things I miss, as much as I hate living in Brampton, I love Toronto though. *Hanging out with Elaine, smoking, drinking tea and watching movies including Sex and the City *Partying with Carmen, drinking alot and just having fun downtown *Patio season in Toronto *Surprisingly some of my customers at work, there are alot of sweet ones *Smoking a pinner while sitting in traffic on the Gardner *In lining by the lake *Relaxing in the hot tub, ... read more

Canada Day, take 2 It’s been overcast much of today, and at 5:00 pm it seems to be turning cold. We are parked again at Long Beach, amongst the surfers, who are here in force. When we first got here, around 8:30, all the best view spots were already taken. We settled for one of the lesser view spots, made and ate our breakfast of oatmeal, Buck grapefruit, and mocha, and then headed for Tofino, where we aspired to use the Internet and take showers. We succeeded at the first, but failed at the second, so I think tonight it’s going to be sponge bath in the camper time. Or maybe we should fill the black plastic shower bag and put it on the roof for a few hours to see if it works in this ... read more

Day 1 of my Northeastern North American Trip! I've got plenty planned and hope to see as much as possible. My main hopes for this trip are to kick start my love of travel into action since all I ever do is talk about travelling. Hopefully this is a good start. My original plan would of involved 30 days of travel that would have ended up in bankruptcy so I narrowed it down to just one small corner of the United States and Canada. It will be great to meet Horty though! He's from Canada, Miramichi to be exact. Tony is joining me for part of the trip and then I am on my own. I've never travelled alone but am looking forward to it. Anyways, I hope you enjoy my travels. First Stop: Niagara Falls! ... read more

So Canada is more than a little strange. They drive on the wrong side of the road - I let them know and I convinced them as well. I told them that the Japanese make cars especially for them, not one of them has been smart enough to point out that the Europeans make cars especially for us. They dont have round abouts. They have Four way stops. They give way to the right? Freaks. They have no floor drains in their bathrooms. Not in a house not in a hostel not in a hotel. I assume that nothing is ever spilt on the floor, nothing overflows and they are completely dry upon exiting the bath or shower. I have not mastered this yet and am stuck with a wet bathroom (oops washroom) floor. They dont ... read more

Nat and I managed to leave some of our stuff in storage so as to not have to cart it all around, I guess I'll try and post it when I get back to Vancouver if I can't be sure I will be allowed the second suitcase to Egypt.... We missed breakfast as we slept in for awhile, since we didn't have to leave Vancouver until 11.30am!! it was so bizzare after the past two months of regimented 7.45am departures. The new contiki crew of 46 are a rowdy bunch, but it seems like it is going to be a fun group. Our tour manager, Darren is nice and the bus driver 'The Chad' is a little odd... but more sheltered than anything from what I can tell. Our tour guide loves pretty much the same ... read more

Hey, so, I've been a little bit behind in my computing, but hey, what can ya do? Planting's been good, on the good days. The bad ones are bad, but I'll keep at it. We're moving camp today, moving a little closer to the mountains, somewhere near Hinton. Photos? Scrounging for free internet means I can't get my pictures on here. I got some cool shots of our helicopter trip a couple weeks ago. Its kind of cool that our skills are so unique, that its worth flying us, our bags and shovels and trees out to a block. I haven't been reading or writing as much. The work really takes a lot out of you, fills up your days. Oh well. I'm getting paid. That's pretty sweet. After watching my bank acount go down for ... read more

Canada Day 2005 found me jet-lagged after far too many hours without sleep and far too few hours of sleep, sitting on Calgary's version of Rome's and London's Metro/Underground system, thinking that this was the slowest possible train in Canada. After the rollicking speed of the metro trains in Italy and England, jet aircraft may be considered slow but, in this case, believe me, Calgary's LRT trains literally crawl by comparison. When a Roman metro train pulls into a station, everyone hangs on for dear life as the G forces deccelerate so quickly. When a Calgary LRT train leaves the station, it probably comes close to the above mentioned deccelerated speed. If a Calgarian transit driver moved to Rome, he'd probably have a heart attack the first day of work! If a Roman metro driver moved ... read more

hey guys....been a while since i have talked to anyone! just thought i would throw some pics up from our little vancouver excursion. 5 of us from fairmont piled into a car (jill, danny, lizzy max and myself) for a solid 13 hour drive to the coast. the drive was gorgeous, i have never seen such awesome scenery. it was definitely a 'where are we' type of trip. the first night there we stayed in qualicum beach, an awesome little tourist town surrounded by awesome beaches and mountains. i had never seen the ocean before this trip, so i pretty well instantly ran to the water. it is funny how i had been waiting so long to see the ocean, and once i got there it reminded me of home. the next day we played on ... read more

I went to go see my sister over the 4th of July weekend in 2005. I hadn't seen Sis and her family in 4 years. Before I got to Seattle, I asked her if she would mind if my nephew, Will would be able to come to Victoria with me for an overnight trip. I figured he would be happy to see a change in scenery and it would give us the chance to catch up over the years that we've missed. Both were delighted at the opportunity and I was happy to play tour guide. Will and I left Seattle early in the morning via the Victoria Clipper. The ferry ride is about a 3 hour ride, so it provided Will and I the chance to talk and snack on some goodies that the ferry ... read more
