Work is almost over! One last exam to give tomorrow and mark by Tuesday, and then it's time to clean up my stuff at Monsignor Doyle, pack up, and get ready for what is certain to be an INCREDIBLE summer for me. I leave for Edinburgh, Scotland on Thursday at 11 pm - I'm certain I'll have no trouble sleeping on the plane, as that is the last day of work. I'm still a little wary of this whole backpacking-style tour that my brother, Michael (Shortstuff to Travel Bloggers) and I are taking. Yes, those who know me know that I like to be pampered, but also that I enjoy trying something new - I guess that partly explains why I'm moving to Egypt for 2 years in August! I'm sure that Michael and I ... read more

Well this post is mainly to put up some cool forest pics. I finally got out of town after being back home for a month--Trevor's brother has been working on an eco-village near Vancouver and we went to pick him up and bring him down to California. We ended up driving about 1000 miles in four days. Anyway these pics are from the mountain next to the eco-village, the rest are from the Tall Ships festival here in Tacoma. Enjoy!... read more

I am continuing these emails in a new web format which will hopefully make it easier for me to send them to everyone. You will be notified by email when a new diary entry appears. The trip route, in case you are interested in also attached. Vancouver island is a large island just west of Vancouver on the west coast of Canada. My first point of call after Victoria was Campbell River, which is famous for its salmon fishing industry. This area is home to five different type of salmon, kohu being considered one of the best in the world. If the salmon had been running (they come down from rivers in Alaska) then I would have gone fishing. I envisaged doing some fishing in North America but have found that fishing regulations are strict and ... read more

Final preparations to the camper To our great delight, the new poptop canvas we ordered at the end of May arrived Friday, so we will have it in place for the trip. We’re having it installed tomorrow at Go West. They will also replace our incandescent light fixture with a fluorescent one - hopefully keeping the camper cooler on hot nights, and saving the battery as well. We are hoping the used Bentley manual Kath ordered last week will also arrive before we leave. This is the official Westy repair manual, which many Westy owners like to keep in the vehicle, in case they run into mechanical problems far away from the nearest good VW mechanic. We have also packed the list of reputable VW mechanics in BC and Alberta, which we downloaded from Roadhaus Website ... read more

On a quand meme reussi a se ... read more

Today, Spring has officially ended here in Canada. I love Spring and I am sure I am going to miss it. I enjoyed it so much I can't help but take pictures of the greenery here. Canada can truly boast of its clean air and clean surroundings whether it's in the busy streets of downtown Toronto or in the suburbs. On my first morning this Spring, I was amazed to see grass. No kidding! I remember that the first time I saw Toronto, I got a harsh impression of its cold temperature. I haven't seen flowers nor grass along sidewalks. It was the harsh Winter season that time. Now I have gained a better impression of this cold city. It has transformed from a white city to a clean and green city. I like going to ... read more

My dad and I started out at 4:00 am from Champaign, IL in my 1994 toyota corolla with my two dogs, two tents, almost enough food and sodas for a month and lots of camping gear and by noon the 3rd day we were having lunch in Glacier National Park. On the way to Alaska we took the long way to see the sites. The first day we went through Madrid, Iowa were my parents first lived after they were married, the Corn Palace in South Dakota and spent a windy night in the Bad Lands. The second day we went through Mt. Rushmore (something to skip in the future) and then drove through Wyoming and Montana. The third night was in a huge empty camp ground in the Canadian Rockies, where we almost froze and ... read more
