TRAVELOGUE Thursday, May 21, 2009 and Friday May 22, 2009 Québec City, Québec Hello from Québec ~ We could not have asked for anything more than to have the last two days in Québec City. The weather has been 70 to 75 degrees, crystal blue skies spotted with puffy white clouds now and again and a slight breeze blowing. The weather has been gorgeous, and our time here has been just fascinating. On Thursday, we had a leisurely morning and then had a walk and wine tasting tour in the afternoon just after lunch. There were only about 28 of us on this tour. We boarded our motor coach and headed east out of Québec City to Montmorency Falls, a beautiful river and huge water falls almost right alongside the highway. There are several smaller falls ... read more

In March and April of this year, we spent two months in the Old Quarter of Quebec City. When we arrived, there was a blanket of snow on the ground and the low temperature reflected the chill that was in the air. From our apartment, we had a great view of Parliament and could observe the traffic as it passed on the street below. The building we were in was about a century and a half old. If you think that is ancient, there are buildings here dating back to the 1700s. Winter battled with spring to remain and, even after spring arrived, it snowed a couple of times. Here in Quebec City, spring doesn't especially mean warm, sunny weather and one still needed a heavy coat in order to comfortably walk around outside. Heating in ... read more

Been a busy few days...here's what i have been up too! Montreal hostel was amazing - it was such a friendly place, small, but everyone knew everyone and met a load of great people there. Within Montreal itself there is not a great deal to see... I went to a cathedral that was nice, and the old town was nice - but it was tiny and isn't anything spectacular. The city has got a fantastic vibe to it, its a liberal place with lots of students and a big gay district. So the general vibe is good and everyone is very friendly. Went to the Olympic Park which was ok, a bit grotty but had a cool lift tower that had some great views as well as a zoo style thing in which I saw two ... read more

Hello once again, We left Tremblant National Park a few days ago and drove about five hours to Quebec City. The drive was fairly easy, despite all the road signs being in French - pretty much one long straight road for most of it. We have struggled a little bit with the language here, its much more French than we expected and many people we have needed to speak to only speak very limited English. Just to complicate things further, Jax speaks a bit of French and they don’t seem to understand her either - must be someting to do with our accents! We are staying in a great place a short way from the city centre itself with something for each of us in the room: plenty of electrical gadgets for Chris, lots of buttons ... read more

I had meant to post this a month ago as soon as we returned from Quebec, but then I was practically drowning in school work, so I'm finally getting around to posting it now. Since this was a bit ago, I don't want to rely purely on memory to recount parts of the voyage, so I'm going to post excerpts from the travel journal that accompanied us. Plus, I feel like my two travel companions deserve a voice after I practically dragged them out of the country with me. Cast of Characters: Kate - me! Krista - tiny, feisty red-head, in love with Quebec Sara - hockey-loving blonde, first time in Canada March 8-9, 2009 and March 12-13 Sara: Oh Canada...today we had to get up at 3 in the morning for our voyage au Quebec! ... read more

We had planned to go directly from Montreal to Quebec after the bus trip from NYC. However the weather conditions were not ideal for driving (25 cm of snow falling), so great so we decided to stay the night in Montreal and to drive to Quebec on Friday morning. Thursday was really a day of catch up, liz and I had been fairly tired from all of the non stop things that we have been doing so far so it was good to just have a bit of a rest day. We stayed at the Best Western near Montreal airport and had our room upgraded for free to a suite. We decided to have Italian for dinner and found an inexpensive restaurant near the hotel that delivered for free. - We were not keen to brave ... read more

Bonjour. That's write, they don't speak English here. I love it! It feels more like I'm in Europe than Canada. I arrived here Saturday night after spending the day travelling from Halifax. Bus, bus, plane, plane- but cheapest way and can't complain; it's all part of it right. So I ended up seeing the rest of the sights I'd hoped to in Halifax along with a couple more fun experiences. I went to a Karaoke bar last Wednesday. I highly recommend it, very entertaining and I'm sure it would've been more so if I'd gotten up. On my last night I finally tried Seafood Chowder, basically a broth with an assortment of seafood in it. The mussels where still on their shells. It was well worth the wait. So this week I've been in Quebec City ... read more
