Well after leaving Winnipeg and jumping on a plane we headed to Hamilton (Hamilton being about halfway between Toronto and Niagara). We picked up our car and then proceeded to head off to Niagara Falls by what I like to describe as the most scenic way possible. Niagara Falls in really tacky especially around Clinton Hill (Think Cavill Ave gone mental). After we got over out initial shock we walked around to the falls which are amazing! The next day we headed up to Niagara on the lake. Talk about complete opposites, it was a beautiful little picture postcard town surrounded by wineries and B&Bs. If we had known before hand we would have stayed here instead of the falls area. On our last day we went on the Maid of the Mist boat. It really ... read more

Two days ago I was supposed to be picked up from the hostel by my host mom, but she never showed up. I guess she thought I was coming next week or something- either way this program is so disorganized. So I ended up having to go to this other lady's house for this week and it really sucks. The women is so nice and knows enough English that I can survive, but only talks to me in French unless I really need help. The food here is so bad tho that I can't eat it. My temporary host mom is the manager of a cafeteria in an old folks home and I swear that's the kinda shit she is trying to feed me. I told her I was a vegetarian and she said "we ... read more

I got to Quebec yesterday and it is AMAZING! I am still couchsurfing, but the girl I am staying with is like gonna be one of my friends here. She's really awesome and our age. There is also another couchsurfer staying here who just so happens to be in my program- so I've already made a friend in my program- he's not from OU, and I think he is a little better at french so we probably won't be in the same class, but I will see him alot I think- because the program is kinda small. I went to the hostel yesterday that I am staying at today and there is a really cheap bar there which excites me because all the alcohol here is like 4X more expensive then it is at home- ... read more

Hi all, We are in beautiful Quebec city but the weather is not so beautiful. Still we are getting out and about and enjoying what we can. We got here yesterday afternoon and did some wandering about. We were fortunate to get a B&B for the night - we got a cancellation! Anyways it is very eclectic shall we say. Paul took some pics so we'll post them later. Very nice though. Anyways, sorry it is so short but we are about to head out and enjoy some of the sights - and hopefully stay somewhat dry. All for now. LPS... read more

The drive to Québec was pretty boring. Along the way, we stopped for a poutine soup (tip: don’t ask for extra gravy and cheese in the province of Québec because they will give you lots!) at a restauraut at Trois Pistoles. Afterwards, our GPS took us to Levis, where we took a ferry that took us across the St-Laurence river straight to Québec city. It is funny because, it rained during the whole drive, but as soon as we got on the boat, it stopped raining. We were quite lucky for that part! The boat ride was really nice because we had a beautiful view of the famous Château Frontenac and of course, the city of Québec. First thing in Québec City was to find the tourist office. THANK GOD that Nigel was driving because I ... read more

Je collabore ... read more

I left Boston yesterday morning at 8 am. Finally took the bus, as the rideshare to Montreal would have made me arrive after midnight in Quebec City. I was looking forward to a pretty ride up through New Hampshire and Vermont, since last time I did it, it was nighttime and snowing. It wasn't nighttime yesterday, but it DID snow the whole way to the Canadian border, and you couldn't see much of the countryside. Nevertheless, there were some pretty scenes in Vermont (see photos). Again, at the border, I couldn't help thinking how ridiculous it all was. Since the Americans are now much stricter with Canadians coming across, the Canadian customs agents (wearing bullet-proof vests) have decided to be real sticklers. Not only did we all have to get off the bus and answer questions ... read more

If Underwear Were Food, Then Long Underwear Would Be Manna From Heaven Yep, there’s something to be said for a catchy title. Seems that the catchy titles are the ones that get people reading, and frankly, that’s why I write these blogs - so that you will read. So read on world, read on!! Restlessness had finally set in. It was only a matter of time before Kel could no longer handle the day to day grind. I sat back watching the travel itch grow in her knowing that, at some point, she would either plan a trip for us (she’s the travel agent in the family) or she would explode. Hoping on the former, I was relieved when she called me with destination ideas for a quick trip. She never gives just one idea, ... read more
