I arrived in Boston late last night, after a VERY long day. Leaving Quebec City turned out to be as hard as arriving there! My bus from Montreal to Boston at 11:45 am in the morning (I'd traveled to Montreal from Quebec City by bus from 7:30 to 10:30 am) was cancelled because of a heavy snowstorm in Vermont, and they didn't know if the next one at 3:45 PM would be leaving or not. So I spent 5 hours in Montreal, part of it at the bus station, waiting around. To pass the time, I took the subway up to Mcgill University and visited there. If the bus didn't arrive from Vermont, I was going to rent a hotel room for the night. But the bus and its cranky driver finally got in, and he ... read more

It snowed all night and this morning we woke up to 50 cms of snow on the ground! The snow plows go right to work, and there's even a "baby" one for the sidewalks. I'm going to post some photos of Marc and Marlo's street, la rue St. Jean, as well as some sites of Winter Carnival. The snow stopped in the afternoon, and we saw a dogsled race and various other sports and sights. Even had some "caribou"--a Canadian drink of hot wine. The fireworks were cancelled last night, but will be held this evening. Hope to take some good photos.... read more

It's now 6 PM in the evening. It's been snowing all day, and the City is like a winter wonderland, with fresh, white snow, Christmas lights, and bundled-up people scurring down the streets --just like the Kedl photo I posted this morning. They announce 20-30 cms of snow during the evening. It's -8%, but the wind chill factor is -18%. Hopefully, the fireworks will still be held later on this evening. We'd also like to see the ice sculptures. Marc told me yesterday that Quebecois people are really honest, and now I believe it! I unwittingly dropped my wallet in front of a computer supply shop in the rue St. Jean about 1 PM. Realizing I didn't have it at about 2 PM when I went to pay for lunch in a restaurant, I returned to ... read more

Hello, Well, the first lapse of my trip was quite eventful! My "direct" Air Transat flight from Paris to Quebec City never made it to Q.C. because of a snowstorm. The pilot made two attempts to land and then announced that we were going first to Montreal and that we might then try to make it back to Quebec. Upon arrival in Montreal, we were told that we'd be traveling back to Quebec by coach--a three-hour drive. So all of us piled into three coaches. In typical Gallic fashion, no one formed a queue and there was a big "rush" to get into the bus. Then at the Quebec Aiport, there was another "rush" to find a taxi, as there were only three available for 150 passengers. After a half an hour wait, I finally managed ... read more

My Mum came to visit for a week and I have been showing her the best Montreal has to offer and have been discovering Quebec City with her for my first time. After walking around Montreal fuelled by meals in some of my favourite restaurants, we headed to the sub-arctic temperatures of Quebec City where the wind chill made it a shocking -33 degrees. Brrrrrr. The city itself is beautiful. The old town is surrounded by city walls and the city is celebrating its 400 year anniversary this year so it is pretty historical for North America. There are plenty of narrow streets and pretty buildings to look around and the blue skies and snow everywhere definitely helped make it a very aesthetically pleasing place to walk around. On returning to Montreal we checked into the ... read more
