Geo: 46.8123, -71.2145Today we explored some of the markets in Quebec, found a local spice market, purchased some maple syrup, found some great wines at a neighborhood liquor store, and ate at a Turkish restuarant which was superb and offered outdoor seating and good brews! Geo: 46.8123, -71.2145Our flight left Kansas City on time this morning. We had a brief stop in New Jersey and our plane was rerouted for unknown reasons ...and then... to my surprise and delight... we flew over New York City and Central Park and The Statue of Libery ~ well, I don't know how close we got but I know I could see all three from the plane window at various times! What a treat! We arrived in Quebec to beautiful cooler, windy weather!! The minute we stepped out of the airport, I was in luv with this city!We quickly took a taxi to our hotel and then started out on foot exploring this new city ~ anxious to see what all the Quebec 400th Anniversary festival had to offer!... read more

The bus ride from Halifax to Quebec City was the worst yet. The first leg was alright, I got a seat to myself so managed to stretch out and get about an hour of sleep. Score. From there it got worse though. There were kids on there with their electronic toys. I understand that they need to be entertained, but really, do the rest of us need to hear their DVDs and computer games? Eff off and let me sleep. I sat next to a shy, awkward girl for the most part of the journey. She was alright, at first I thought she wouldn’t be up for much of a chat, cos she just answered my questions and then read her book. Fair enough. iPod time! After we stopped for dinner though, she became a little ... read more

Ugh. Not having a good day today. I arrived very early this morning and the guy at the front desk was a bit of a dick, but eventually he was OK. Then this morning another receptionist was a dick too, apparently they're all rude to the English speakers. Effers. I didn't get much sleep so I think that's the reason for how I'm feeling. I'm on the verge of tears as I write this, ugh. I'm kinda sick of being alone. I mean I find people to have conversations with for a few hours or days and that's nice, but I'm lonely for most of the part. My main goal here is taking photos so that everyone can see all the cool places I've been, but I'm not enjoying myself. Well at least today I'm not, ... read more

Geo: 46.8266, -71.3024We took our time this morning. We had a great and inexpensive breakfast at the restaurant connected to our hotel. We retraced our steps from yesterday stopping to take some photos at interesting spots. Went into the church of Notre-Dame-Des-Victoires. Found an altar there dedicated to St Genevieve. Walked up to the Chateau Frontenac and investigated the archaelogical excavations of the former Chateau St Louis which had been the original Governor's residence. We then climbed the stairs, constituting the Governor's Promenade. This was built to commemorate the 350th anniversary. This climbs up the Hillface to the Plains of Abraham. Great views along the way. The Plains of Abraham was where Gen Woolfe attacked the French forces of Montcalm in 1759 and won the victory that established Canada as part of the British, rather than the ... read more

Geo: 46.8266, -71.3024We are relaxing in the most gorgeous room we've had so far, in the Hotel Port-Royal in Quebec City. Yes, we are paying over $200 for it but it well worth it. We are in the old city, and we found this after driving around the city for awhile. To be walking distance from all the restaurants, shops and the Port and have this great room we feel is money well spent. Our only problem is they are booked out tomorrow and the only room available in Quebec for the same money or less is at the Hilton, would you believe, so that's where we are going tomorrow. It is Quebec's 400th birthday so the place is packed with tourists. And who can blame them? This place is great. We arrived here about 4-30 pm after ... read more

Quebec is one of those cities that impresses you from the time you arrive, which is a big call after a journey that's taken 27 hours door to door. Although our arrival in Toronto on the way is equally imprinted in my mind, but that was only because the pilot tried to leave a Zorro mark on the runway as he landed. There's nothing like a left turn, right turn, left turn as you touchdown! But the landing in Quebec was much less spooky. Today was the first time that the rest of the crew got a look at the site out at Montmorency Falls. It was good to see them stand at the top with their mouths agape in amazement at both the beauty and challenge of the site. Having been here before I also ... read more
