Odometer: 38849km Bob and I said our goodbyes early and I started the last leg of my trip in Quebec. In Calgary our friends, Susan and John, told me of several places where they had lived and spent time when they were young. I planned my route to take in some of their recommendations. The countryside surprised me. I expected it to be flatter, with a lot of farms, but it was quite mountainous, although there were few places where rock was showing. If I could speak French, the town of Magog is a place I would like to spend some time. I would do my normal gawking about, but would listen and talk with the locals to learn more about the place. My quick take was that it is a mature town, with some tourist ... read more

A Week today I'll be in Honduras. Scary thought, but also very exciting. At this time actually, we'll be waiting at the airport in Miami to board the plane for Honduras. I still can't believe I'm leaving. I'm meeting people for lunches and dinners, hugging them and saying goodbye, but I still feel like I'm just going for a month or so... a whole year. I can't fathom it at the moment. I haven't really started packing yet. Today is the day I begin that. Up until now I've been so busy uploading all of my CD collection onto my new laptop. I just don't want to have to pack any of them and it'll be so much easier to have them on my computer. Yesterday I revised my camp packing list for Honduras. I'm scared ... read more

So long, farewell Ontario! We have just about completed the journey across Ontario with a lovely sendoff weekend at home in Dunrobin. Coincidentally we even overlapped the same weekend that our grandfather was visiting which was great timing! It was a nice break to canoe and play some beach volleyball for a day rather than bike and after a tour of the capital, Dan now knows more about the Canadian Captial than he does about his own capital in Washington. Let's backtrack to Thunder Bay where I last wrote; Thanks to Fiona and Jeff for showing us an awesome time there, on her birthday even! Finish pancakes were all that they were cracked up to be and Fiona got us VIP treatment at her bar for the Blues Fest party which was a blast. If you ... read more

Hey there! Just a quick note because I know that some of you are wondering where the hell we are..... We are home. Well, not really at "home". We got back to Ontario on June 28th, but we've spent so little time in our apartment in Toronto that we haven't even bothered to reconnect our phone! Are currently doing the visit the parents/spend time at the cottage tour. It's too hot in the city and as usual, I would rather spend as much time "up north" as possible before going back to work. Steven (Mick's son) is here for the month, so that's another reason to spend quality time out of the city. Had an amazing month in British Columbia. Travelled all around, did some great mountain biking (Whistler rules!!) and some terrible mountain biking (curses ... read more

Well, I am trying to organize and pack for my trip to Korea, and this is probably the most difficult part of the trip, in my opinion. Trying to figure out what to take with me! I always put aside too much to fit into my bag, and usually end up very frustrated and close to tears by the time I have to leave. I am NOT known for my early starts on stuff either. The hardest part of this trip is not having been there before. From what everyone tells me, it is very different than North America or Europe, and the fact that I will be working for half the time that I'm there makes it even more difficult to decide what I need to take with me. I have done most of my ... read more

Standing there amidst a throng of snap happy tourists from around globe, jostling for a clear, unfettered view among the crowds I thought how spectacular it would have been to experience Niagara Falls back when it was largely undiscovered save for the native people. To stumble across this awe inspiring natural feature on your hunt for carabou or as a unexpected cherry on the top of early explorations. I pondered what it would be like to experience Niagara in the absence of like minded traveling hordes. Experience it without Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, House of Horrors, Guinness Book of Records Museum, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Marineland, Imax, Niagara Casino, restaurant chains and much, much more. I concluded that it would have been decidely more agreeable. Sadly, In our ever increasingly ADHD and profit driven culture ... read more

While home for the wedding of my friends from uni, Keith and Jill, I made up trip up north with family to our cottage at Lake Huron. It was my first chance seeing my little nephew Cooper and we spent pretty much the entire three days oggling and playing with the little guy. Ladies watch out, he's got a smile that will melt hearts.... read more

Spent two days in Niagara and two be honest two days is enough. Yes its the biggest ‎waterfall around but there is only so long you can look at it. In addition the town that's ‎built up around the falls is like Blackpool with tacky souvenirs, extortionate prices and ‎bad food. Which is ok for a few days but no longer. ‎ Lets not let that spoil the falls coz they are amazing the Niagara river basin itself is good ‎enough without the two giant waterfalls. ‎ We did the "maid of the mist" boat trip up to the falls and then lost $5 in niagara casino, ‎wanted to play texas hold'em poker but everybody playing looked a bit too good.‎ ... read more

Heya! Okay, so first up I fully admit I have been rather negligent in maintaining the travelblogs - I’ve at least two past trips to cover in addition to this one, and several people have been reminding me that they’ve been logging on to check the site a lot more than I have. So I’m getting to it straight away this time, to recount to you the 10 wonderful days I just spent visiting Ottawa, Canada which was my home of 2.7 years and remains one of my favourite places on the planet. Now, before I go any further - would all the indignant Aussies please just calm down. I plan on visiting you, one way or another, in the next 6-9 months. So back to my trip! I left a grey and cool London on ... read more
