Pacifico Project: Hitchhiking the Oceans What: A scheme to sail the world's oceans! How: Lacking a sailboat, it only seemed obvious to hitchhike. When: Departure set for December 28, 2007. Where: The plan is to land in Panama City, then fly to Puerto Obaldia, on the edge of the legendary No Man's Land of Latin America, the Darien Gap, between Panama and Columbia, and begin hitchhiking. WHY?! To seek pleasure in all it's worldly and wonderful forms, baby! The Specifics: * hit the beach on the Caribbean coast * stick out my thumb * find a boat headed north into the San Blas Islands * sail towards the Panama Canal * enter the Pacific Ocean and beyond! In closing, I would like to thank my family and friends for your amazing support and encouragement! Also, a ... read more

Hola everyone! First thing - happy birthday to the Blackshaws - hope all is well Chris and Lisa! What's new? Well, I didn't think a whole lot, then I realised that I hadn't written since June, which is very slack of me. Work is slowing down - the nursery is actually closed for the season, with a few plants and bagged goods outside in the "cash and carry" section. An old guy today was caught trying to avoid the "cash" section of the aforementioned cash-and-carry. We managed to get some of the stock back, but we'll just have to keep an eye out for the bad seeds in the future. So I will have a little more spare time over the next few months, only having the odd couple of day's work here and there (it's ... read more

hahaha, and you're all over there freezing your buttocks off..... well, you'll be pleased to know that at work we welcomed the first official day of summer with a massive thunderstorm and a few hail showers. I got a thorough soaking, but the plants were unharmed - NOTE: a new Euphorbia called 'First Blush' is now in my possesion - yay! I got a special surprise yesterday too when one of the ladies at work brought me in some Tim Tams that her daughter in Oz had sent over to her - the new/old? Raspberry ones - very, very nice! But I still miss Vegemite the most, but am willing to bide my time until I'm back home near New Years. The plan has changed yet again, foregoing the safe shores of Venezuela and Colombia ... read more

Lledrod Llansilin, Wales North America » Canada » Ontario » Kingston By Sailboarder_98May 15th 2007 We departed Montreal for Manchester via Zürich. I bought a bottle of gin and a bottle of scotch in Montreal and security confiscated it in Zürich. I said, "Have a good party!" She smiled!!! In Manchester we rented a car and took a one-hour drive to Wales where an old friend lives...in hedegrow country in a house that is 800 years old!! She has a son and a daughter (who stayed with us in 1973 when she was 17!!!) We had a lovely time with them. Her husband died seven years ago and she looks after the estate by... read more

At the moment I'm working 10 hour days, six days a week and trying to fit in some kayaking and so forth, so there are few hours in the day left that I'd like to be inside on the computer. The weather has finally warmed up a bit, most days now around 15-20C, but the water is still ice cold (as I found out tonight kayaking), so swimming is still out for another month or so. More wildlife has been spotted of late - I saw my first racoon the other night in front of the house on the other side of the road, and at the bus stop near work there's a groundhog that sits on the roadside nibbling grass. ... read more

I should be studying for my one and only final this Thursday but Procrastination is the most tempting Being. I've decided to start my travel blog before heading out. My intinery so far consists of the following countries: Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia (Bali) and Philippines. This will be a soul searching expedition as I will be travelling by myself. I'm still not quite sure how I feel about that but I am excited to go nonetheless. Who wouldn't be? I have my concerns but I don't mind going 'all out' on the geek factor by being extra cautious. Think: Flat waist belt wallet. I emphasize FLAT--not fanny pack! That would just be screaming tourist. I really have no idea what I'm packing. I know I won't be packing much because my sister is taking me ... read more

Yes, I admit, it is still snowing and below zero at the moment, but the flowers are coming, so it's officially spring (even if it "officially" started on March 21st). I have even participated in my very first maple tapping, in order to tick one of the "to Do in Canada" things off my list (still waiting to see a moose or beaver). ... read more

I'll be away for a little while, off exploring the nation with my new travelling job. I head up to Ottawa this afternoon, get a plane out to Edmonton on Wednesday and return to Kingston in about a fortnight. After two or three days at home I'm off to Calgary to work for another week or so, then I'm back in Ottawa for two weeks, and then possibly/finally back home again! So if you email me and don't get a response right away, that'll be why. Updates: not much. Have decided that trapping myself in a small yacht to cross the Pacific Ocean may not be my most brilliant move to date, so I will simply fly home or to NZ from the Caribbean later this year/early next year. But I will still get some sailing ... read more
