Today's our final day in Canada so here's a quick update on what we've been doing since leaving the snow - no pictures unfortunately due to technical reasons but they will follow!! Had a great last day boarding: went with Rob to the Blackcomb glacier and thanks to a bit of luck and Rob's great strategy we were 3 of the first people that day to reach the top of the glacier and ride down on all the fresh powder - it was absolutely without a doubt the best run and even the 5K cat track that we had to endure at the bottom was worth it! On top of that we had the best waffles ever at the Crystal Lodge and also got loads of great action pictures. So having survived 3 weeks of boarding ... read more

Several years ago some of my co-workers and I visited Gray Bay, a beautiful beach south of Sandspit on Moresby Island, Queen Charlotte Islands. This octopus was in a tidepool in some rocks, which was draining and soon would be dry as the water receded. We followed him? her? sliding from the tidepool to the each and into the sea - he or she moved almost at a walking pace over a uprising distance. One of the crew's dogs got a little too curious and almost recieved a snoutfull of ink and seawater. Grey Bay is an excellent campground choice for visitors to the Queen Charlotte Islands. In the summer it is comparable to Tofino's Long Beach, without a dangerous surf and no crowds. Services are available at Sandspit, including car rentals and fuel (check ... read more

Ok so we have been a bit slack in getting a site/blog together but finally we had done it after much frustration (and money) at various Internet cafes! So as all our friends and family know we left for our travels at the end of February and spent our first week in Vancouver just basically sussing things out. We did some touristy things like going to Grouse Mountain (Vancouver's local hill) for Em's first snowboarding lesson and other general city sight seeing. We then made our way up to the 'White North' of Whistler to try and become snowboarding bums. To our surprise this happened more easily than we thought and we scored some jobs and accommodation in the first few days- too easy! We stayed there for about 5-6 weeks and then decided we would ... read more

Well after leaving Calgary it was going to be quite hard to get back into the swing of things with the travelling. Luckily we have started with Vancouver. It is easily the 'Nicest' city that we have been to. We left Calgary yesterday in bright sunshine, and arrived in Vancouver with terocious rain! It made us less homesick though, with the green grass and lots of rain. It wasnt the best start to Vancouver that we would have wanted, but we stayed positive. The hostel is good, it has a lot of space, and most importantly the room is comfortable with nice beds. Once we had droped all our bags in our room, got ourselves comfy we decided to brave the rain and go and explore. Got our raincoats and went to see Vancouver. We are ... read more

... read more

Wow, take it from experience. Do not book two different tickets for flights on one trip. If all of the flights are on one ticket one would simply find out the requirements for the airline you get on to at origin and pick them up at the end. But with two separate tickets there is the problem of complying with two different airline’s conditions with one set of luggage or pay extra. Well I’ve heard a couple of people tell me that since my plane leaves just two hours after arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa that Virgin Atlantic airlines will probably transfer the luggage otherwise we are paring down in South Africa and I hope that the two suitcases of donations get to a worthy cause there. Then there’s carryon… I had to leave a ... read more

We checked into our hostel which was a few miles outside of town. Little did I know that some of the lads we were with had a condo central in Creekside. 3 levels of pure luxury and this practically became our home for the weekend. Drinking beer in a private spa in Whislter village is not a bad way to start the evening. The nightlife was lively although I felt Whistler was like Disney World. Very expensive and people were of course up their own ass. I started to ask around for accomodation with not much prevail. The mountain was awesome and had great snow on top although it was turning to shit already at the base. This season has plenty of snow (in fact a record year), however the mild conditions is also bringing rain. ... read more
