Headed out bright and early to catch the float plane to Vancouver Island to spend the day in Victoria. What fun we had speed walking 20 min to the harbour to catch the flight! Flew in a twin Otter for those interested and it was great. Landing on the water was softer than in a normal runway and flying at a lower altitude make the journey interesting in all sorts of ways! Landed in Victoria harbour and headed into town on foot for breakfast with Jen getting cosy with some sailor, see picture! We had traditional Canadian breakfasts, Jen with a skillet of bacon, egg, cheese potatoes and other assorted vegetables, me with pancakes and double ration of bacon! I chose the healthy meal. Sadly the coffee was not great. Must admit that we find the ... read more

This is the second stop of our little North American discovery. We are North-West of Seattle on Vancouver Island. We first had to drive to Anacortes WA to take the ferry to Sidney...the one in BC,Canada! The three hours ferry is a pretty lovely ride through the San Juan Islands. We saw dolphins, but couldn't spot any whales during the trip. Once in British Columbia, immigration was a smooth and frienndly affair. Welcome to Canada! It was followed by half an hour drive to our resort for two nights, the Bear Mountain Westin Resort. For the occasion, we are around 20 minutes out of town, deep into the woods of Victoria Island. The kids enjoyed some relaxing time after their long flight. It was also the opportunity for us to enjoy a fully equiped kitchen. Mari ... read more

Timothy arrived safely. He hired a car today and drove up the island. Lots of colourful, quirky buildings. Special place was walking out onto a wharf where pontoons were set up for houses - the people were actually living on those houses! We also found some right here in Victoria this evening. A really special treat today was having a humming bird come and feed right beside us while we were having dinner. All great! Our love to you all, Sorry, no photos yet, this port is dodgy. Oh well. Hello everyone. Firstly, a message for Timothy. We are in this big old house. It is pale green two storied. Our suite is number 3. You need a parking permit which you will get at the Ocean Island backpackers on a street beginning with "P" sorry, can't remember the rest right now. We have paid for you so just let them see your ID get your parking permit and come right over. Looking forward to seeing you on Friday. To everyone else (and you too Timothy) We had the greatest trip over here. The Ferry ride was outstanding. We sat down at the buffet lunch which was all our favourites - fishy things for Ron and major chocolate things for me. Prior to that, however, we did a huge trek yesterday around Stanley Park seawall - ... read more

There is so much to do around here that I don’t have the time to sit behind my computer and write for an hour. I was expecting a lot of free time during my travels but the opposite has been true. So far there have always been people around or I have been doing something outdoors. Once I did finish my entry, the internet in the hostel was so bad that I couldn't even upload pictures. Now that I'm away from the hostel, I have more time to write and functioning internet. I am visiting my friend Alex and we're both messing around on the computer, like a typical Sunday afternoon. I am currently not in Vancouver anymore. I took a ferry to Vancouver Island and arrived at the capital of British Columbia called Victoria. Last ... read more

I am currently enjoying the wonderful sun on the balcony in Vancouver. Somehow I have ended up in an amazing house with some of the nicest people I’ve met. The last few weeks flew by and I really have to start writing about it. Otherwise I’ll have a book left to write at the end (There is a small time delay in my entry cause this was already two weeks ago, there is another one coming after this one). I will tell you more about my time in Seattle. You know that I had ‘planned’ to stay there for a weekend. Well, I left Seattle on Sunday night so that means that I have been there for about two and a half weeks. Which is absurd, it went by so quickly! Really strange if I think ... read more

and so the trip has begun! With our groovy new roadie t-shirts on and our jam packed luggage we waited at the mount royal and said our final goodbyes to kt and banff.... after an emotional couple of days, in particular for rach and mandy, who made an entire playlist dedicated to their 'break up with banff!'it was finally time for us to pack up and move on. A big thanks to brewster who gave us one final free transfer to the airport and a huge thank you to the oh so lovely lady at the westjet terminal who allowed us to board the plane... It wasnt until we were about 30minutes out of calgary that we realised rach and sandy had missed their flight!! and so after spending a few minutes laughing about how their ... read more

Hi Gang, I am writing on the boat leaving Vancouver Island as there is Wi Fi and I am taking opportunity to use it. This blog will probably be short as the trip isn't very long. We have been on Vancouver Island for 3 nights and explored the capital city, Victoria and spent a day in the Butchart Gardens. We are continuing to have a great time and have met more interesting people. I'll write a longer blog next time when I have more access to the internet. All our love XX... read more

Jim had directions to Will's place, which ended with the only pink house on the street, we arrived there around 9 PM with Will getting home shortly after that. The 3 of us sat for a bit just catching up and talking about our lives and then went out for a walk down near the inlet to watch meteor showers. The shoreline was lit up with lights which Will pointed out as this feature and that. We sat on a bench overlooking the inlet and just lay back to enjoy the evening. Once back at Will's we tucked up in the bus for the night, deciding to have breakfast together in the morning and see what the day offered. Breakfast was ganola and yogurt, and we headed out for a hike along the coast near Sooke. ... read more
