Hi people interested in the Hinkleys trip. We have arrived at the most fantastic hotel I have ever seen. The Burj Al Arab is worth every cent. It might well be many, many cents but its incredible. Peter sat at his oak desk and looked at the 360deg view over Dubai and said, "he could be the President of America" I think he could have chosen his words more carefully but you get the picture. I have taken some photos to show you, because words can’t describe, but I am not sure if I know how to down load them. If I cant, you have to wait until I see my IT support (Lee). Peter has got right into this time zone. Its 4am here, and Pete is snoring in our King size bed with a ... read more

I arrived in Dubai one day before Dom. Emirates flew me here and got me settled into my new apartment located downtown on the busiest street for shopping, restaurants, and night clubs - Sheikh Zayad Road. I was very pleased with my new accommodation. I share a three bedroom apartment with two other girls - an Australian and an American. Each of the bedrooms is ensuite and there is lots of space for all of us. The Building itself is brand new, has 53 floors, 24 hour security, a fully equipped gym on the 53rd floor (overlooking the sea and the famous 'Palm'), and a rooftop swimming pool. Its SWEET!! Dom arrived the following morning at 3am. As I waited for him in the arrivals area of the airport, which is actually outside the airport, the ... read more

21st Century Tower - my apartment building

As you have seen here before, the building next to us is being demolished, and people still want to park right next to the plummeting steel weight of doom that they are using to smash the old block o' flats. They have had to start issuing very stern warnings and disclaimers, some of which are even understandable. Unbelievably some random people have left messages on this blog saying that it is cruel to make fun of the bad spelling. Well if the Gideons started leaving something useful in hotel rooms like dictionaries instead of Bibles then I wouldn’t have this sort of material to post would I? If you are that bothered start up a petition to the government of Gidea and leave me alone. Next thing you know it will be cruel to laugh at ... read more

The only thing Abu Dhabi lacked on a Friday afternoon was nine Hawk aircraft flying inches apart from each other in a stunning aerobatic display. Luckily the Red Arrows were in town and gave us a half hour of Britain’s finest showing people how to really fly over the Corniche. Anyone who has ever seen me reverse park knows that I have got precision vehicle manoeuvring skills, so I am fully qualified to assess these boys, and yes, they are quite good. Although how hard can it be? It’s only like driving, but with an “up/down” component, and you don’t even have to worry about hitting the curb or taxis cutting you up. Once I’ve seen the Red Arrows back a Land Cruiser in the spot between the fire hydrant and the badly parked BMW, with ... read more

You know, one of the things I miss about England is seeing skips where they should be, i.e. on the ground. There are only two places skips should be, blocking your driveway so that you have to park half way down the road and your neighbours can surreptitiously fill it with old mattresses and 3 year old Christmas trees in the night, or badly secured on an overloaded skip wagon going down the A13 at 80 mph with the driver arguing with his wife on his mobile phone, oblivious to the shower of bricks and rubble that is flying off the back of his load of poorly concealed asbestos. If I were to ring up "AAA Skip Hire" on Canvey and ask for a skip to be delivered to the 6th floor I'd be called something ... read more

Some of you that have visited this site will be aware of Kathryn and Scott's world trip. You can see their blog here: www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Scottandkat/ They've been kyacking, surfing, biking, rope laddering and bouncing along on giant inflatable penguins all across South East Asia. At present are driving around Australia in a van and generally laughing their a*ses off. They have been keeping a pretty sweet jounal of it all which makes better reading than a lot of travel guides. But here is the rub - do they bring you mildly amusing shaped vegetables? No they do not. Sorry Scott and Kat, but untill you can come up a nutsackier potato, your blog will be getting less hits than the average Eurovision Song Contest winner. This my friends is what the internet is REALLY about. ... read more

Arrived home safely. Dubia was certainly an experience. It has left an impression upon me and not necessarily a favourable one. Lots of detail not recorded in blog on day to day basis but detail I feel I must disclose. The attention to detail everywhere is amazing and made the holiday a unique experience for us. But, do I really need to have my sunglasses cleaned and my face sprayed with Evian water whilst lying on a beach? The tourist industry is the "new oil" in Dubia and they are providing luxury and pampering second to none. However this industry would not survive if it wasn't for the many hundreds of thousands of immigrant workers that work there. Speaking to many of the hotel workers from waiters, beach attendants, boat drivers, cleaners they are happy with ... read more

I know you must be bored by all this luxury I am describing on a day to day basis and I promise to not talk about it unless I am asked when I get back. Today we spent the morning by the pool, whereas we had our faces sprayed with Evian water by the beach attendants at the Al Qsar here they provide you with your own personal can of Evian water, cold towels and lavender facial spray to keep yourself cool. Little treats such as miniture watermelon smoothies and the permanent refreshment of ice cubes for your water throughout the day. This afternoon when it got too hot by the pool we retreated to the suite and prepared ourselves some fruit from the bowl, mango, passion fruit, grapes, kiwi, sharron fruit, pineapple. arrived via a cream mercedes, all cream leather and walnut interior. Greeted with cold lemon scented towels and a hugh plate of the biggest juiciest stoneless dates you have ever seen- the size of a large plum - I had 2. Our suite was ready but there was a techical problem so they sent us upstairs to the lobby lounge where everyone comes for their 40 pound afternoon tea and provided us with one - free. Everything was silver tea/coffee pot, milk jug sugar bowl, sugar tongs , linen napkins and even linen doilies on plate with cakes. The waiter pours your tea through a silver strainer and when I went to refill my cup a waiter appeard from nowhere and did it for me. We had ginger and lemon cake. Then to our room sorry ... read more
