Well, since it was my birthday Pegs decided to be nice and let me put some of her photos on my blog... (no, that's a lie... I stole them from hers! :P ) I experienced snow for the first time the other day. Me and the rest of the antipodeans ran outside like little children and had snowball fights in the street at 8 in the morning. We then went down to Princes Gardens and built a snowman... which Ash then destroyed... so we built another one... which Ash then destroyed... I'm heading off to Spain in three days, which I'm excited about! I'm thinking of heading south to Granada and then maybe even ducking over to Morocco for a few days! Who knows. I'm planning on hitchhiking and squatting.... (no, not really Nornie! ;) Wish ... read more

Matt: My KPMG sponsored tour of the British Isles continues… This week I find myself in sunny Glasgow, known for its river and curry houses as much as its heroin and knife crime! In fact the producers of Trainspotting apparently decided to film in Glasgow because they didn’t really need to add much to make the place look like Cabramatta on steroids (as well as heroin). I've actually arrived during the first blizzard of the season, but have really enjoyed my time here! The people have been amazingly friendly (or at least I think they are - I can’t really understand much of what they are saying, but they smile a lot), the food has been great (no matter what people say, haggis is fantastic - especially for breakfast!) and the city itself is pretty kewl. ... read more

As we only have two months of working and saving left before we head off on our adventure I thought I would start our travel blogg to get into the holiday spirit, so here it is, the very first instalment! Tom and I spent to weekend (in between working) looking at accommodation for when we arrive in the Cook Islands, by law you are meant to have accommodation booked when you arrive on the islands so we took this a great opportunity to look at lots of pictures of the beautiful Rarotonga. Makes it feel a bit more real and at the moment trying decide between some bungalows by the beach and a hotel (which is cheaper but just not as cool). Decisions! The only other thing we have organised is 3 nights in San Fransico ... read more

Venturing out into a sun-bathed Edinburgh for the first time in over a month, my eyes hurt and went all squinty from the brightness. I couldn't remember the last time I saw the town as anything more than a looming pile of dour sillhouettes against the early morning (or afternoon) moonlight, and the sight of people walking the streets was quite overwhelming. Walking down to the Meadows in the almost-warmish kind of cold the sun now only feebly manages to provide here, it kind of felt like it was my first day again- a refreshing change from that month-long recurring deja vu of beer kegs, conveyor belts and overweight Scotsmen. Ash and I scanned the crowds of people soaking up the 'sun', trying to spot a tall Jamaican and a shaggy Italian with an afro who ... read more

My Escape to Edinburgh! Last weekend (4-6 November) I went to Edinburgh to meet up with one of my old flatmates, Lauren, and seven of her friends. I took Friday off and caught my train at 11:00a up to Scotland. No problems at all with the train trip. Everything ran smoothly and I arrived at Edinburgh's Waverly Station at about 3:20p as expected. We stayed at St. Christopher's Inn which is just outside the train station in about the best location ever. To the north was the Royal Mile and to the south was Princes Street--just about anything you want to do that's tourist-y can be done on these two streets. I got checked in and then went for a walk around the city. Didn't have too much time because it was getting quite dark, but ... read more
