Finally got everything booked through CAA travel. Agent was helpfull and probably got us some decent prices but we were unsure of her reliablily and made sure all bookings were confirmed. Our seats on the flight are supposed to be 2 seats together near a window, as opposed to 2 seats in a 3 or 4 seat configuration down the middle of the plane. This way we only have ourselves to deal with when getting up and we get a view, such as it will be on a night flight. The plan is to go on the Royal Scottish Tour - Scottish Wonder bus tour for the first week. Then for the second week will be a driving tour which we hope will include some geocaching in some very beautiful areas. ... read more

After two buses from Lochinver and 5 hours we landed in Inverness around 6pm and were greeted with pouring rain. Jen and I checked in to our hotel and after chilling out for a bit we reluctantly decided to get up and check out town while we were around but were rewarded it for it. We were ready to grab a taxi and head into town when we were offered a lift by a guy that worked at Europcar. He took us into town and dropped us off at a pretty good pub for a bit of food. Inverness while small still has its charm. There is a river running all the way through the heart of the city and like most places in Scotland a lot of pubs. So we went off on a little ... read more

We decided to join one of the tours run by Gray Line for 19 May. We chose the one which would take us to Glasgow, Lock Lomond, and Stirling Castle. The staff at Lairg booked the tour for us. We got up at 7 o'clock for us to catch the bus at 9:10 near the hotel. The bus arrived a little bit late due to the roadworks in the city centre. The Scottish guide was very friendly to us. He was driving westwards and went past Edinburgh Zoo, Airport, and football stadium, and talked about a lot of interesting stories of places where he had driven past and current roadsworks in Scotland, which has made it difficult for him to do the tours lately. After leaving Edinburgh, he got on M8 towards Glasgow. He advised all ... read more

Feeling a bit worse for wear and after having an unscheduled sleep in, we rose for breakfast just in time. The Guinness sampling went well the night before and a traditional Scottish breakfast was just what the doctor ordered. The traveller still inside us, told us to take advantage of the buffet breakfast so that we could prolong the time until our next stop but most importantly to save on money. Not every person starts the day with a continental and Scottish breakfast but we said we’d give it a try! On one of the hot plates was something resembling black pudding, so I presumed it was Haggis. Now breakfast is an important meal of the day so it was time, just yet, to try out the local delicacy. Fed, watered and thermos filled (free of ... read more

I was thinking of a title to call this blog. I think this title is an appropriate one because Scotland can be renowned for rain and, unsurprisingly, it was a rainy and drizzly day, when I took a Timberbush Tours day trip around the Highlands. I wanted to do this specific tour when I was in Edinburgh in January but it was sold out and I took the West Highlands one (See ) instead. With hindsight it was probably best doing my first choice tour this time round because of the longer days. After a sleepless night and early start, we left Edinburgh and, via Stirling, we had our first stop in Kilmahog where it started raining and never totally stopped for the rest of the day. When it stopped it was replaced with the odd ... read more
