Phew! A day off after a crazy couple months let alone a busy holiday season. Presently settling in comfortably in Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire, the highlands of Scotland. Yeah I know... didn't last long in Ireland :( To sum it up, Galgorm was a pretty good experience but too much drama and partying. Ended up costing more than it was worth staying and Scotland has just been so much our home. So back to Scotland.. to Perthshire this time. Which is as beautiful as you'd expect from the Scottish highlands and the work/accomodation is just too good to pass up :) I'm adding a gallary of our photos from Turkey but I'll get back to that with a new post and more info. We had a blast, great weather and even a decent tan! Didn't really want ... read more

Christmas in Scotland Yes I know Christmas was a while ago, but I wanted to put pictures up. Here is just a short version of what we did while there. Mark and I drove up to Perth, Scotland and spent about a week up there. We had a busy but lovely time up there. We went to see Mary Poppins on Ice at the Dundee ice arena. It was very cute. Christmas Eve was spent at Chris and Eve’s house in Dundee. It was so much fun to be around kids at Christmas. Luis wrote his letter to Santa and made sure that food was left out for Santa and the reindeer. When we returned to Mark’s parents’ house, we were welcomed with presents overflowing into the centre of the living room, so we decided to ... read more

Scotland Family time We just came back from a wonderful time in Scotland. Mark and I got our car back. It needed a new clutch. Fun huh? We drove up on a Thursday morning and stayed with Mark’s parents, Peter and Janette. We fit quite a bit in while we were up there. We had coffee with Mark’s Gran, who is thrilled to have Mark back on the same land. Mark and his brother Chris love to tease their Gran. I love Mark’s Gran because she gives it out better than they do. Mark and I went to his Brother Chris’s and his girlfriend Eve’s house in Dundee for dinner on Friday night. They have a lovely house and have done a great job making it their own. We were also able to meet Eve’s two ... read more

On our way from Edinburgh we pleasantly stopped at the City of Perth, on a Saturday morning, only to find out that there was a wonderful market on the main streets of downtown. It was so busy with people everywhere and we walked around to pick up some wonderful surprise items, like extremely fragrant home made lavender and heather soap, delicious walnut bread, garlic cheese, sausage, Scotish medican (which was delicious, I must say) etc. and then stopped for a nice cup of coffee and scones. We then continued on our way to Dornie Ross-shire Red House with a few more stops along the way. We were absolutely blown away with the green hills of low growing fern, mauve heather everywhere along the hill sides, mountain sides, and along the road way. Also passing so many ... read more

Perthshire Highlands A birthday treat to escape the muck of Leeds and go north to the fair hills of Perthshire! We were staying in Balnaguard, which is a long way from main bus routes, but on National Bike Route 7, so we took the bikes on the train. Not too difficult to book ahead (the staff at Leeds railway station's advance booking hall know their stuff) but I did end up with 35 tickets for us both for all the reservations - partly because of a freebie en route. The journey up the East Coast Main Line was gloomy, as fairly dank air was still parked over England. But after Edinburgh things perked up as we rolled through the Fife countryside and charged into the Highlands north of Perth. We got off at Pitlochry, accompanied ... read more

'You must be mad, but good for you!' and 'What did the schools say?' These are the two most common reactions we have had when telling folk about our trip. We've just started this travel blog from home as we prepare to head off first to New Zealand via Tokyo. We are busy just now with final packing details and preparing our house for our visitors. Sam and Emma will be adding to this blog as we go, so hopefully you can keep up with our adventures.... read more

Hello Well, we shall be heading off on our adventures in 4 weeks! I just wanted to put in a quick entry so that people know how to find our travel blog and to sign up for it if you want to. We will be posting entries from our travels with photos etc as an online diary. From anywhere there is internet access anyway... We're both getting really excited about setting off now, and you'll be thrilled to know Dave's final spreadsheet/budget/forecast is now complete... Lucie has also purchased all of the available travel equipment but does intend to make sure Dave is carrying anything remotely heavy. Our exact route is now pretty much planned and for those of you who are interested here it is: *Thailand - Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai *Laos - ... read more

Geo: 56.835, -3.47279A pleasant drive through the Scotish lowlands/ countryside, eventually saw us arrive in a small town called Pitlochry around about 6pm. We checked into a local bed and breakfast and then set off for a bit of exploring. Found a nice pub on the end of the town, and then stopped off for fish and chips. Finally, we found a better pub fairly close to our accomodation. Turned out to be a fairly humerous night out, due to the fact that there was Karioke playing! haha. Karioke is often funny at the best of times, but SCOTTISH karioke was really somethin.... read more

Hello from the land of sheep and whisky. When we left Slough (the land of pork roast, wine and Jaguars) our only aim was to strike north for York. For Canadians used to long distances, places here are so close that you find yourself saying “Well, we’re already in York, so we might as well see Edinburgh while we’re here…” …and soon enough you find you’re in the middle of Scotland, surrounded by sheep, pheasants, Englishmen and the occasional Scot. We have found long-distance transportation here to be expensive, but we found ourselves the handy BritExplorer 7-day bus pass for around £75 each, and actually ended up saving money while getting ourselves up to Edinburgh. York After a 5-hour bus ride we rolled into York, and we were in awe of one of the most atmospheric ... read more
