In Scotland very briefly in order to visit the two veterinary schools that have accepted me (in Eduinburgh and Glasgow) and to visit my Granny, who lives in England, but met me in Heathrow and flew up with me. Scotland is fantastic! We're staying in Edinburgh, had a good long walk around the city. I had some haggis and whisky and some good bitter! I love British food and beer, I think it is the best! Great seeing the vet school, got a pretty thorough tour of both. Very interesting to see how similar they are to the vet hospitals I've seen in the states! I suppose there's no reason they'd be different, but it felt just like being at home. ... read more

Frankly, having a short visit to the most fascinating cities in the world (I suppose) is always a rewarding experience... My 3-hours stay at the city centre of Edinburgh was really an achievement being an urban planner. Edinburgh is one of the old cities in the world and a very good example of the early and modern urban planning! Prior to my visit, stories about the city were just purely accounts of authors from books and magazines... and my own imagination! Being there alone was really a wonderful feeling of fulfillment - experiencing what these authors said about this Scottish city... amazing, magnificent, awesome, beautiful and fantastic - those words described my feelings - admiration at first sight! Wow!...Through my digital camera, I was able to explore the places, enjoy the city scenery - the ... read more

Well, after an absolutely fantastic, life-changing year travelling the globe Andrew and I are now safe and sound at home in Scotland. We have been back for just over a month now and have been really busy sorting out our lives. It is great to be back among family and friends again, but the weather and the day-to-day life is taking a bit of getting used to. Our big news is that Andrew proposed a couple of weeks ago and obviously I accepted straight away. So we have booked our wedding for July 2007 and are really looking forward to a big party with all our family and friends to celebrate. I am really excited and obviously can't wait to start looking for my dress but also to plan our next trip abroad for our honeymoon, ... read more

This past Sunday I attended my very first Six Nations Rugby Match in Edinburough. The exchange advisor from my University, Jim Wilson, met all the interested students at the bus station Sunday morning and got us all organized for the hour bus ride over there. On the drive over there I got to see the "ghetto" of Glasgow, a sheep farm, a high security prison and lots and lots of garbage on the side of the motorway. As we approached the stadium the number of people on the streets started to multiply. Becuase the game was France vs. Scotland we saw lots of crazy fans wearing France jerseys or kilts. I bought myself a scarf just so I would fit in with the crowd a bit better.... Before the game we all went to the "beer ... read more

Well, I think the title sums up the last month and a but quite well. There has been much twiddling of thumbs (and knitting needles- I am making a Dr Who scarf), much procrastination over what kind of nothing I should really get up and do, and much dreaming of sun, sea and music. All is shaping up well for the next month though, as Angus, Pegs and I are planning a trip to the highlands for a week shortly and soon after that I head to France for 10 days... not a lot of time, but then I don't have a lot of money either... But back to news... um... what HAS actually happened since christmas??? I'll see if I can jog my memory by using point form: lets see... -New Years was probably the ... read more

Hi everyone, After digesting all the food we ate over Christmas, we decided to drive up to see Edinburgh which is only a 4 hour drive from Knutsford (...if you don't stop....). We made several detours on the way and came across some heavy snow, especially when we went through the North Pennines (small mountains and forest), so it was a slower trip than hoped. Especially when we hit roads that had not been gritted or salted….Wes’ great shortcut!!! The reason for the detour was to stop at Housestead’s Roman Fort, the most preserved Roman Fort along Hadrian’s Wall which the Romans built during their occupation of England. It snowed like crazy and we walked around in -2 degrees. Next stop was the England/Scotland border and Jedburgh Abbey in Scotland. We finally reached Edinburgh and booked ... read more
