Day 11; I can't believe how fast the time has passed, in one week I will be on my way home. Today we headed south and stopped in a picturesque little village called Pitlochry. It's a small theater town with the usual touristy shops. There is also a salmon ladder here that actually counts the number of salmon that swim up the ladder. This area is known for its salmon fishing, permits are required. We then traveled to Blair Castle, the home of the Duke of Atholl, who is the only man in Britain to have a private army. Again there are no words to describe the beauty of the architecture and finishes of this still inhabited castle. Next stop, St Andrews, my picture is at the 18th hole of the Old course, not really a ... read more

Andrew and I booked a private day tour through Mini Tours Scotland. I wanted to get a chance to see more of Scotland than Edinburgh, but I didn't want to rent a car because it is expensive and I didn't want to have to stress about driving in a foreign country on the other side of the road. A tour was the perfect solution! After breakfast, Craig picked us up in his van. We drove into the countryside, over the Firth of Forth, and into the region of Fife. He took us into some small fishing villages. Well, they used to be fishing villages. Apparently, that industry isn't as prominent today as it has been. Today, they are sleepy little towns that border lovely rock beaches. They attract local families on holiday but aren't very bustling ... read more

Today we all got up early and packed a picnic. We set out in the car and headed to Dollar to visit Castle Campbell which is set high up in the forest of Dollar Glen. We parked and walked to the amazing castle. The castle was built over time with parts being added by new owners. The oldest part is called the castle gloom which is a high tower with four floors and a roof walk, this was built in 1430. We had so much fun exploring this great building running up and down the stairs, in and out of rooms like children. Once on the roof the views were spectacular, we could see for miles with hillside and trees to one side and on the other an open valley over looking the village of Dollar. ... read more

Picturesque drive along the coast north east of Edinburgh. First stop Aberdour to see the oldest Castle in Scotland and the church (kirk) that is still in use on the grounds. We had a breakfeast at the tea room of scones & jam with coffee and then head back out on the road.. OH wait!!!! that's Nigel & Lori and the kids pullling in!!! It seems they are following us!!!! This is their day to do the same route as us. Next stop was Anstruther where we decided to NOT take the bob & puke tour to the Isle of May. BUT... Nigel & Lori did decide take the 3 hour tour. I think they are stalking us.... Stopped at world famous Anstruther Fish & Chip restaurant.. Wow this is the best fish and chips we ... read more

Started off with another dry (what?! can this be?) run and then headed across the Forth Bridge to The Kingdom of Fife. Another lovely day although not the sunshine we had yesterday. Oh well, no rain so we won't complain. First stop today was Dunfermline Abbey and Palace. This is actually where Robert the Bruce was buried (except for his heart which is buried at Melrose Abbey). He spent a great deal of time at this abbey and after it was largely destroyed in the war, he funded a major portion of the rebuild. His name is built right into one of the towers in carved stone. After the abbey and palace, we walked the High Street and did a little shopping. Next stop was a little village called Aberdour. Very quaint (although Nigel had thought ... read more

We have arrived! After some decent naps on the flight (except for Nigel), we made it to our new abode with ease! After unloading the car, Nigel caught some zzzzz's while the kids made quick friends with the neighbourhood kids and I started unpacking a little. Then, after the nap, it was a little tough to get going again but we managed to find our way to Ceres for their Highland Games!! And we are so glad we did! The Games were especially fun because once we found a good place to park ourselves on the grassy knoll, we were able to simultaneously watch highland dancing to a live piper, heavies competitions (including tossing the sheaf, caber toss, shotput and 56lb weight throw over a bar), track events (running and cycling events for all ages), and ... read more

Well folks that is the 2012 Peru trip officially over :-( I am safely back in Scotland after my >36 hrs journey travelling back, note to self: in future I need to think more carefully about the return travel! My bus trip from Arequipa to Cusco was uneventful....however my taxi driver in Cusco did try to charge me an extortionate amount of money for a 3 min journey....thankfully I had my wits about me that morning and very little currency left, so I told him what the fare was going to be (I still gave him more than he deserved after his cheek) and he just accepted it, never let your guard down! At the Cusco airport I had the pleasure of having all my luggage inspected by 2 police officers (in their thirties), trying to ... read more

April 26, 2012 – St Andrews Today was Damian's round of the Old Course at St Andrews – talk about having one excited Husband! The weather was extremely cold, and a few showers came across the region but I don't think it mattered at all – Damian was able to tick something off his “bucket list” by playing at The Home of Golf. I spent the day exploring St Andrews – it's not a big place, just a nice village. There are some great shops, and I also walked up to St Andrews Cathedral – which was really interesting. There is just so much history in the UK – we have no concept of history in Australia. It's our last night at Cambo House tonight – we'll be sad to leave tomorrow. Tomorrow we are heading ... read more
