Way up north now in Ireland and is fantastic. The scenery is great and of course the people and pus are still the same as before, just brilliant! Left Belfast a couple of days ago after spending 5 nights there properly to long in one place but such a fun city now compared to the recent history of Belfast and the whole Northern Ireland. Everywhere I went there is reminders of the troubles of the past that was only 10 years ago some off it but is real peaceful now. On the Easter Sunday over here they have a parade in Belfast and I thought oh great a Easter parade maybe I could get a egg or two but instead it was a remembrance day for the Easter uprising that happened in Dubin in 1916 and ... read more

Still having a great time over here, trying to fit everything in with the small amount of time I have in Ireland is impossible really. I'm in Limerick now and have been for one night and arrived from Cork where I was for three nights. I used the couchsurfing site for Cork and ended up staying with a bunch of people from Latvia and do they know how to party! I was kinda exhausted by the time I arrived there but noo, I had to go to the local for a few hours and this happened the who time in Cork. I also did manage to see some of the sites though which was good. The old city jail was properly my favorite and they had a really good audio tour of the jail giving ... read more

So i just got back from yet another amazing night at Dolan's, by far my favorite pub in limerick. live traditional irish music is played every night, and on many nights additional bands/artists play upstairs. (tonight i got to see this amazing songwriter, Eoin Coughlan, for free because the music lecturer at UL hooked us up with free tickets :o) Dolan's is always busy, but not too crowded, and people from age 18-80 hang out there, all together. i got some video of the musicians who play every night, as well as some irish "sirs" corinna befriended singing 'molly malone.' these guys were hilarious, as i'm sure you can see. oh yeah...classes are going well too :o)... read more

I figured this was a great way to share my pictures and keep everyone updated on my life while I'm here in Ireland. I've only been here a week and I am already having an amazing time. It's the first day of classes, so I don't have much time to write, but I'll post a bunch of pictures!... read more

After being bused to the hotel in Limerick, the entire API group went on a sort of tour of the city. We went to a castle and then to the Hunts museum. After, we went to dinner and then to bed. Most of us were extremely tired having left the day before and not really geting a whole lot of sleep on the planes. Limerick was okay for the little that I actually saw of it. It didn't look like there was a whole lot to do, so I'm sort of glad that I didn't choose Limerick.... read more

Top o' the morning to you all from Ireland. I've now arrived in Ireland and have spent the last few days winding down after a frenetic pace in Paris. Now that the pace has slowed somewhat, I have been able to make some updates to my travelblog profile. I've added a number of email address's from from my address book so apologies to those of you who are only now reading my previous two blogs that were published a little while ago. I've also now added some photo's to my previous two entries. Being new to using a travel blog, this has been a trial and error process! I now think I have it worked out, but unfortunately the photos that relate to my second blog entry about Paris are all in my first entry that ... read more

San Francisco 10 years of my life and 20000 things to remember and only 2 boxes to pack. The last weeks were one of the most busy but prolific of my entire life. We had to pack over 10 years worth, sell a car, buy tickets, finish work projects ( 6 years of IT don't go away easy), buy a ring, go eat and drink, attend dinners and get togethers, party with Emilio an Co. That rhythm had left me exhausted, so much that I think I slept in Madrid and Ireland more than in a year. Madrid That didn't meant that I stayed the whole time laying on bed. I had plenty of time for socializing and getting reintroduce to my country's natural habitat. A sort of epicurean life rhythm sets in on you. Wake ... read more

I find the concept of films influencing where we travel to on holiday and what we do whilst there a fascinating area. I have been to quite a few destinations associated with certain movies eg. Vienna (Austria): beautifully showcased in Carol Reeds 'The Third Man' (1949) Matmata (Tunisia): setting for the Planet Tataouine in the Star Wars films (1977 onwards) Dingle (Ireland): dramatic setting for David Lean's epic movie 'Ryan's Daughter' (1970) Is anyone else influenced by movies to visit particular places ? or take movie tours etc whilst at destinations ? I've just seen Casino Royale and it definately enticed me to want to visit the Bahamas and Montenegro that both feature in the film. I'm hoping this will become a place to share thoughts and opinions on this really interesting aspect of travel.... read more

Sept 3. We went to Limerick, well took a taxi out of Limerick to its suburb Castletroy. ok place a little dirty, it is the crime capital of Ireland. The taxi driver thought I was pretty funny when I asked him if we could tour a castle we went by which he informed me was really the town jail and an asylum. The house and yards in Castletroy were huge and very rich looking. The place we stayed was also very nice, we each had our own room with our own bathrooms, it was actually a little apartment or flat. Sept. 4 We took a bus back to Dublin. It was pooring rain but we decided to walk to the harbor anyhow and got soaked. Definitely wasn't worth it. ... read more
