I guess I should say a short hello too… This will mainly be Pauls blog I think… I might keep my old one and keep writing in Swedish, we’ll see… I haven’t written anything there yet, but url=http://www.resedagboken.se/Default.aspx?documentId=24§ion=journey&journeyId=119742&userId=-1 this is the address: If you don’t want any more emails from us, please un-register your email address. /Ulrika ... read more

Just to update you guys on our plans, we are adding another location to our trip, "The Gambia"! Ulrika’s parents are kindly whisking us off to west Africa the day after we come back from Thailand to help celebrate Ulrika’s mums 50th birthday. Hopefully it should be a nice place to unwind but I’m not looking forward to the many hours of flying to get there! On a different note, our packing is coming along nicely but we still have to find Ulrika a nice pair of walking shoes. It’s proving really difficult since she has very small cute little feet! Size 2 (or 34 in euro sizes) to be precise! In the mean time we are mad busy preparing to move from our apartment this weekend. We have lived here for a year now, so ... read more

Ulrika and I have been talking about travelling for ages and finally in January of this year we decided we would try and book something for September 06! To get inspired on different kinds of trips we could go on, we travelled to London to see a travel and sports show. It was really excellent and we took sooo many brochures of trips we wanted to go on. We then began investigating prices for trips with various travel agents and in the end decided to go with student travel agent, kilroy travels (a bit like USIT but it worked out cheaper!). So here are the countries we are planning to visit over 5 months starting from September 12th... Ireland-Sweden-USA (LA) -Fiji-New Zealand-Australia-Bali-Malaysia-Thailand. (The reason we are going to Sweden is because Ulr... read more

I almost feel like saying I’m back in Ireland, but then I’ve never actually been here. The trip from Barcelona went off without a hitch, despite having to take an hour and a half long bus ride up to Girona airport at eight, catching the flight and taking two busses to Newcastle west where Laura and Nate picked us up. Maybe it’s the absence of a language barrier, but the Irish really have seemed much friendlier than the continentals. Anyway, Mike arrived two days after Mat and I did and we drove south into Cork for the day. We walked around for a bit but really did not end up seeing too much since the guys were very focused on pubs and getting their fill of stout. I think we are planning on going to Cork ... read more

We slept late this morning, which is amazing since the sun rises at about 4:30 AM here at this time of the year. Apparently, the monks (or their decorator?) took that into consideration when selecting the shades for the Guest House windows, as no hint of the bright early morning sunshine disturbed us. We enjoyed tea and brown bread for breakfast again, then wandered around the beautiful campus. There were quite a few families here today, and when we asked about it, we were told that these were people who were considering Glenstal Abbey School for their sons, come to check the place out in advance of the next school year. I suspect the young Irish boys don't have the same kind of appreciation for the beauty of this place as Tim and I have, though ... read more

Northern Ireland is a pretty crazy place. It's Ireland but its not part of the Republic of Ireland but the people are Irish but but butbut... Yea, it's weird. I walked around all the different previously impoverished areas where people were regularily shot and took pictures like I was taking pictures of the Pantheon. Everyone says "The Troubles" are over now but I felt really uncomfortable walking around these areas. You just know the history behind it all and its very creepy. And some of the murals are just completely ridiculous. I was just in a pub and there was a sticker that read "don't support Israel". I think it was a subtle (or not so subtle?) way of saying who and what they believed in. I'm headed to Belfast tomorrow. I'll get to see even ... read more

There once was a girl named Kim who forgot how to write a Limerick Then she went to Limerick And still didn't know how to write a Limerick Who rhymes Limerick with Limerick three times? Yep, I'm in Limerick. It's not too special. I was in Dingle yesterday and Dingle was very much special. We rode around the Dingle Peninsula for two days on bike. It was beautiful and blissful. The combination of the green country hills, the steep cliffs, the spring air, and the Atlantic ocean was almost too much. The town of Dingle is also really adorable. Before Dingle we were in Killarney. It was a pretty nice town too, but the best part of about Killarney was the National park. We rode around the national park and it was really breathtaking. The whole ... read more

Last night I went to Yesterday Once More, a tribute show to the Carpenters. It took place at the Belltable Arts Centre, which is right down the street from me and one of my favorite places for cuture and arts, foreign films and in this case, music. I also have a picture of my roommate, Grainne and I in our apartment. This evening I am staying in to pack for the Connemara trip, which leaves tomorrow morning at 900.... read more
