How time flies when we spend it with our Norwegian family. As explained in my last blog, life in Bergen with the kids is full of events and sport, with interesting places to be and some lovely family occasions. Great family meals with the kids. Great evening pancake Fridays at Rune and Lillians, and the opportunity to celebrate Sofia's birthday at Thomas and Anne Lena's house. So fortunate to be included in these family get togethers. The day before leaving Bergen we celebrated Lilly's 15 birthday as we would not be there for that occasion, and they would celebrate it in the sunshine in Spain. Our 6 weeks just disapeared but the memories of all that we did will remain with us. So, so nice to catch up with everyone and enjoy being part of the ... read more

Continuing great weather, very hot and dry. We have spent time catching up with friends and some of Di's relatives. Catching up with Norman and Rosemary, in Clevedon was great as we haven't seen them since 2016. Norman and I always spend time discussing and comparing our fishing stories while Di and Rosemary fill each other in re family affairs. A beautiful lunch and good conversation. We had a day trip up to Fernhurst, Sussex to meet up with friends Jackie and George, who are the parents of Sarah, our neighbour, from back home in NZ. Great to catch up over here as we only see them when they venture south to NZ to spend time with Sarah, Tony and the girls. We meet at a great country pub, Duke Of Cumberland Arms, and had a ... read more

Here in England we are continuing to have great weather. Enjoying the country side, walking and discovering new places to visit. We had friends from NZ pop into see us, Dave and Jan Goldsack with another couple, who were traveling around the area. A really nice catch up and a chance to show them some of the wonderful places that we walk and visit. I do love catching up with people from home when we are away. One of my highlights has been the Royal International Air Tattoo held at Fairford Air Force Base. An amazing day, with Pete, Simon and Kevon, watching Jets, Bombers, Transporters, Helicopters, Stunt Jets, and demonstrations of a fantastic variety of planes, old and new, from all over the world and from many different countries. Watching a jet go past at ... read more

Magic!!! Wimbledon Tennis is something that Diane has wanted to go to for years. So Chris arranged through an acquaintance for a couple of tickets for a day, so Di and I had a magic day watching some great tennis and enjoying the surrounds of this iconic tennis championship venue. It really is such a spectacular venue and the atmosphere was amazing. As the weather here in England is so hot we expected it to be very very hot sitting in the stands. The day was one out of the blue with the temperature going over 31 degrees. Sitting in the stand you felt as if you were going to melt away. I felt for the players and the officials as down on the court the temps were getting up toward the 40 mark. But nothing ... read more

At last. We have left the cold of our NZ winter and arrived yesterday in England to wonderful warm weather. I do find that the cold of winter is getting harder to take, so I am very pleased to look forward to the next 3 months in the warmer climates. We left home, NZ, at 4.45pm on Monday the 2nd July and flew NZ to Hong Kong then right through to Heathrow, London, arriving at 2.30pm on Tuesday the 3rd, so a trip of 30 hours after crossing the date line. Very tiring but thats the way it is. So now we are spending the next 4 weeks in Corsham at Pete and Helens. We just love this place and all of the surrounding area, where the walking is great, the country side magic, and the ... read more

Yes, we have had wonderful sunshine for the last 10 days although the evenings are still cold. Spending time strolling the lanes and pathways with the dogs, helping Helen and Pete with a couple of projects they are doing in the garden and just having a lazy but interesting time. We caught the train into Bristol one day , had a ferry ride around the harbour and strolled along the waterfront until Pete finished work, then we had a meal looking out over the water. Very nice and we were most impressed with the Bristol that we saw. We did see it in it's best light, with a fantastic day, no wind and warm sunshine. People were out sitting along the waterfront and having picnics and drinks. After dinner we went to a concert of 2 ... read more

We arrived at Heathrow last week and went to Stephanie and Robin's new house in Romford, London to spend a couple of nights before heading south to Corsham, near Bath. So nice to catch up with the two of them and see their house which they only moved into a few weeks ago. A nice evening spent catching up then up early to catch the train, then tube, in to Oxford St, London to meet up with Terri Seamark from Kirkcaldie's days for a catch up. We had coffee and scones while we talked and Di went of to look around a couple of shops while Terri and I caught up with any gossip we knew and then the 3 off us went and did a bit of shopping in Oxford St. Terri left Di and ... read more

The Last day at Hadrians Wall was spent on a couple of walks, then off to drive down the coast from Newcastle, taking a couple of days on our travels back to Wiltshire. On the drive south we dropped into some magic little coastal villages, like Staithe and Saltburn-By-The- Sea. Also some larger towns such as Whitby and Scarborough. The coast is made up of cliffs and beaches with some nice inlets with small harbours. Whitby of course is were we live in NZ, but this is the original Whitby and we took the opportunity to look around. Very nice beaches and interesting harbour, very much a holiday destination for the English. Like our home Whitby, Whitby UK is situated on the sea, but ours is on an inlet not the open sea. Although quite crowded ... read more

I have lots of places that I have been to which I always want to return to and the Cornish Coast is one of them. We first went there way back in 1991and I always enjoy revisiting it. So we drove across to the beautiful Clovelly fishing village first. {Not Cornish}but beautiful. Stayed right on the waters edge at The Red Lion Hotel. The village has a lot of history and it is beautiful to stroll from the top down to the harbour. Could quite easily spend a few days there. Down the coast to Boscastle, the first of the Cornish coasts magic fishing villages with a great history, even recently when it suffered a huge flood that washed most of it out to sea in 2004. It has been lovingly rebuilt and still retains its ... read more

So here we are in England with Pam and Warwick and we have filled our days up well so far. Di and I left Norway with some regret but it is also nice to be on the move again. The last few days in Bergen filled with a few walks and trips into town. One day we went into town to meet up with Dave Ellison, a friend that I dealt with through work for over 35 years, and his wife, for lunch. Dave's wife Judith has relations who live in Bergen due to her father having been born there and coming to NZ as an adult. I always find it amazing whenever I meet people I know on the other side of the world. Unfortunately it was a wet day but we enjoyed a walk ... read more
