We had a lovely day in the Cotswolds. Seeing such interesting places like Blenheim Palace, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Norton and Bourton-on-the-Water. How could we go wrong with names like these? Most of the places were smallish towns or even villages. We were looking for a real country pub that was off the beaten track for lunch and saw a small sign on the A44 for the small village of Broadwell. We were able to travel down the country lane just like in the movies where someone must give way to get two cars to pass each other. The village was lovely and "The Fox Inn" was just what we had wanted. The village has about 300 residents and was just as quaint as we had wanted it. Driving on the other side of the road was a ... read more

So sorry that I have been so long. Our camera has decided to give up the ghost. It was one that we had bought in China, so I think we got a fair run for our money. It was just an inconvenient time to break. So, we had an interesting Wednesday. We found the Methodist Church and some other good things whose pictures we hope to be able to recapture when we get home. S, I am sending some of our-daughter-in-laws pictues from Venice where they had a great time. Will get back when we get a new camera. We feel so useless without one. Now, the blog tells me I cannot add the picures from Venice because they are too small! Wow!... read more

Another full day. Chrissy didn't feel like going out and walking today, so Jim and I ( sometimes with Louis) did our personal best on walking with 22,600 steps, which is about 11 miles. I have to admit that after dinner, my legs didn't want to climb the stairs up to our room. We went to the University Park where Louis is determined to unearth a mole. They also have the Cricket grounds here. Then, we returned Louis home and met Glenn at his work, walked up to the college he is affliated with and had lunch in the dining hall with him. We walked to The Voltaire Foundation where Nooni works and was amazed by what they are doing. We went home then and took a nap. It rained until we went to dinner at ... read more

Greetings again from Oxford. Jim, Louis and I took a nice long walk yesterday as the day was mainly sunny with some clouds. We went through the meadow again, crossed the Thames River and went to this tiny little village of Binsey. It's sole claim to fame, except for being so quaint, is their pub, The Perch. It was great to be able to get away from the city life so easily and just stroll along with the cows and sheep. Glenn & Nooni got home from their trip and had a great time. They said that these churches here couldn't compare with all the old, old churches in Venice. I told Jim that we could not go there, but you can tell he wants too.... read more

We had another lovely (rather cool) day yesterday. They are having a drought here and are wishing it would rain and we are so happy when it doesn't. Sounds like a selfish tourist doesn''t it? We actually missed the morning service because we were too late. We thought it was 11:00, but it was 10:30. But, not to worry, the Evensong in the evening was really a proper service and not what we expected. The morning service was just a prayer and communion. The church was full in the morning and about 35 people in the evening. Here are some more pictures.... read more

Happy April Fool's Day and also Palm Sunday, We have had a quiet few days since we are trying to be dutiful dog-sitters, but still managed a litle fun. On Friday we went shopping for Chrissy some warmer pants since the weather has gotten decidely cooler. We are assured though that this is still good weather for this time of year. There was such a crowd that we went to a meadow close to the Thames River for a 2 hour walk and that seemed enough for Chrissy & Louis. We plan to go to a very old Anglican Church this morning and again in the evening for Even Song. We have made our reservations at a pub called "The Rickety Press" for a proper roast lunch afterwards. Here are a few pictures. Until next time. ... read more

Still having a great time. I will say less here in the beginning and put more explanations with the pictures. Thank you for your greetings and prayers while we are here. Glenn & Nooni are now in Venice for her birthday and we are experiencing normal life in Oxford. The walking is wonderful! Two days we have gone over 18,000 steps. Should be less now that we don't have to go back and forth to Lincoln College. Here are some pictures. Hope you enjoy them. Cheers!... read more

Arrived safely on the Monday to a glorious Spring day without a cloud in the sky. Chrissy actually met some young people traveling to London and challenged tem to a few games of Uno while waiting in Toronto for the plane. Beautiful day and great bus ride to Oxford where Glenn met us and we walked to his place. Their house is much, much smaller in person than in the pictures, but very cosy. Chrissy is staying with Glenn and Nooni and Jim and I are staying at the Bed & Breakfast at Lincoln College. More about that tomorrow. We walked around a little, but were so tired that we were leaving sightseeing for the next few days. Here are afew pictures just to keep you up on things. Tomorrow should be better. We are amazed ... read more

Hello again. We are off to England in just a few hours. Our son, Glenn is blessed to be at Oxford and we are going to enjoy their life there. We are excited to be able to catch up with him, our great daughter-in-law and wonder whether Louis, the Jack Russell, will remember us fondly when he sees us again. We had a good time at church and lunch with friends before coming home to finish a few last minute items. See you tomorrow with some photos and travel stories. Jim, Shirley & Chrissy... read more

Dear Friends and Family, I'm having a fantastic time visiting my friends Cathy, Rhiannon and Richard in London and Oxford. I toured Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Southbank of the Thames on my first day. I met up with my old classmate from 25 years ago - Marcus Lesser - and we caught up on one another's lives. I managed to find Cathy's apartment (flat) in the middle of the night near Chelsea. I had some great sunshine so spent my day in Notting Hill, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. In the evening, I was off to see the wizard at the Wizard of Oz musical with Cathy. I caught the Oxford Tube (bus) to see Rhi and Richard and their boys - Owen, Ellis and Alex. Unfortunately we got our communcations crossed ... read more
