My first impression was of a city in shambles! Dirty, messy and tacky! Nevertheless, Liverpool is facing a major refurbishment and the whole city is being renovated. Loads of road work underway, making it almost impossible to drive in the center of the city. Pretty much everything is being refurbished and I guess that in a couple of months the city will look totally different. All that said, there are various nice building and sites. We dedicated most of our 2 days to visit the attractions related to the Beatles. We went to the Cavern pub and club, which is the place where they played for over 5 years and is also the place where they were playing when discovered by their producer. It is such a tiny place. We stayed in a guest house called ... read more

European Capital of Culture 2008? After a couple of hours on the oldest remaining railroad division in the world, we entered the Liverpool Lime Street station. During 2008, Liverpoool is denominatend the "European Capital of Culture". As a gothenburgian, remembering the strict prohibition of any construction project during the World Championships in Athletics 1995, I was very surprised to see that virtually the whole centre was a construction site! I read in the local paper that the City council had demanded money from the government, but didn't get everything they had been promised (according to the liberal democrats in charge). I guess that's why everything is delayed. We started out by going down through the city, slave trade walk-map in hand (not m... read more

We've arrived in Liverpool and are being graciously hosted by my aunt and uncle-in-common-law (i.e. Paul's aunt and uncle) for the night. It was rather strange to wake up on a Monday morning, at the same time I'd normally be heading for work, and getting dressed out of a backpack. The trip down was relatively uneventful, although I must admit that at the moment we somewhat resemble a travelling carnival, or, at the very least, the road crew for Les Miserables. Lest anyone confuse me for a green and inexperienced traveller who packed everything under the sun, I'd like to point out that we're leaving a few things at Jacob and Mari's place down in Oxford tomorrow night. We're also giving them our food processor, so in addition to our packs, we're lugging around a Debenhams ... read more

When I was told that I would be sent to UK for training, one of the things that excited me the most was visiting LIVERPOOL! The birthplace of the greatest band in the land! As early as getting my visa, I can imagine the Abbey Road scenario with my brothers and my father. For sure i would be envied upon (ahem Rykiel, Nance). True enough, when they learned that I will be sent onshore, it's never-ending "LIVERPOOL! ABBEY ROAD! BEATLES!" that can be heard from them. When I was there, i was quite sad that Liverpool wasnt really one of the places that we would visit. Either my collegues has been there (they were sent onshore before) or they are not as fanatic as I am. Months went by, still no Liverpool in the plans. :( ... read more

So here we are after months of planning, FINALLY on to our second trip to India, as I said on the profile - This is not a definite guide - a you must do - its the story of 2 people travelling around India for a couple of weeks Dec 2007. The reason for doing it (the blog that is...) sometimes guide books are not enough plus we learned so much by reading other peoples blogs so thought we would like to share our journey. We are 2 normal people with normal jobs doing normal things :) We are Chris who will be known as DK (Dark Kent) and me, Gill, known as the BL (Blue Lady) him for his ability to tan and me for my ability not to!!! Yes I'll mention food and prices ... read more

Hello again~ Well, it has been quite a while since I have updated my travel blog, so I figured that it was about time for me to add some new pics and stories! This last semester has competely flown by! I cant believe it is already december. It doesn't snow much in Manchester, so it pretty much still feels like fall here. Most days are still around 45 - 55 F, and it really does rain quite a bit! I pretty much always keep an umbrella with me. My life here has been filled with classes, research, work (I serve drinks on Friday and Saturday nights at a really nice Indian restaurant called "Shimla Pinks"), and I have also met a nice English bloke! The pictures that I will include in this entry are from the ... read more

It's not the leaving of Liverpool that hurts me so but my darling when I think of you. Well we've had to leave Anfield behind, but we're off for an anniversary scran, courtesy of G&H, at a little place Nick suggested in Kowloon, apparently yer have to ask for a beer on the QT because it's unlicensed, but the curry is meant to be spot on, before we head back over to Hong Kong island to join the Hong Kong reds for the Bolton game. We're staying at the 5* Harbour Plaza hotel in Whampoa, which was a boss leaving prezzy off Ste & Corinna, it's very plush with an executive suite and a roof top swimming pool, we've views out into Hong Kong harbour, and all the staff call yer sir! Well, 2 days before we go, just had our Leaver's party last night, the Pilgrim and the Krazy House, was mad, don't remember much, but I remember spilling drinks falling over somewhere! Just preparing my mp3 player and making plans for a hectic monday got a LOT of things to do, last day in England, can't seem to appreciate that it is gonna be my last day in my home country for a long time. I'm just desperate to go, Christmas dinner tonight, then packing tomorrow, and, if everything goes according to plan, leave Tuesday morning, have no idea how Jen is getting to Manchester?!... read more
