The day has finally come......We have a date to fly!! We have been waiting for what seems like months to have a date to move. I was at the point that if 1 more person asks me "do you have a date yet?" I was going to scream!!!!!! Now we are on count down! The packing is almost finished, yay. It is hard work when you have a 2 year old helping. William thinks it is Christmas again with all these boxes around and as I am taping each up and putting the lables on, he is going around opening each up!! It is amazing just how much "stuff" we have. Oh my god, the things I have kept "just in case" but I have been ruthless and we have thrown so much out and have ... read more

This is my first time writing a blog, so here goes! My name is Lindsay and my family and I are moving to China is 3 weeks! We will be living in a town called Teda, near Tianjin. We have been so busy packing up our things, Christmas and yesterday was our leaving party (and a joint birthday for our son Matthew who will be 7 in March but wanted a party with school friends!) Now the clock is ticking!! We had a short trip to China back in Dec. This was our first time in China and we had a great time! We found an apartment, sorted out Matthew's school, my husband Andy spent a couple of days at the plant he will be working at and we had a good look around!! It was ... read more

We went to Dover castle one of the days we were in England. It was really interesting, first walking in there, because the outside makes it look like one big castle, but it is really just a wall around it. We first looked at the things that are around the castle, like mortars, catapults and cannons. Then we went undneath the castle to where we think prisoners were put. There we were big metal balls with cannon balls on them so it was difficult to move the doors in and out. Then we went up into the castle where we learned about the history of King Henry the second and his family, and how they had many fights with each other. Then we went up into one of the towers which had the sleeping quarters for ... read more

In the 1800s, Whitstable had a huge boat industry;building, repairing and selling boats. But now it's just a big part of the history. It's a beautiful town, with a big rock beach, where you can find oyster shells and crabs. As we wandered through the town, there wfish seafood store and I decide to try an oyster. You should have seen my face, it looked as if I had just eaten something rotten. I put a lot of lemon juice on it, which helped, but I couldn't swallow it. It was too big and I didn't really like the texture. So, we continued on our route, just walking through the town. It's a cute little town, but it also has some big streets. We kept seeing big candy stores, with only candy in them. We saw ... read more

At Aunt Alice's we mostly talked and watched TV together. I played with the Lego I was generously given, and I caught up with writing. It was good to actually get to meet them instead of just talking to them over Skype. Around 1 o'clock Maureen would start to cook supper. They had a very different way of cooking supper. Maureen would finish cooking around 3 o'clock, and when people wanted to eat we would just heat it up in the microwave. i spent lots of my time playing with Brandy, the dog. I had a really nice time there and hopefully I will be able to go back soon. Talk to you Later Snake Wrangler signing out.... read more

In order to enter the Chatham Marina you need to go through a lock off the Medway River. At the time of our arrival there was about 5 m (roughly 16 feet) difference between the water levels in the marina and the River. This is the first lock we have ever entered where the cleats for tying up the boat are connected to a floating pontoon (dock); this makes life so much easier. Once inside the lock we were met by the harbor master, Tony. He was very welcoming and helpful in getting us oriented to the marina and Chatham in general. The first thing we learned was that the marina is located in what used to be a Navy Dockyard first established in 1567 when it was set up as the Royal Dockyard by order ... read more

Sometimes you just need a break, don’t you? The younger generation takes long weekends. Us oldies, well, we take long mid-weeks. This mid-week, our excuse - as if we needed one, was that I’d finally persuaded my good lady to reduce the ever-growing collection of jigsaw puzzles she’d squirrelled away on shelves in our garage and in almost every cupboard and wardrobe in the house. She had more than 200 boxes of the things, collectables apparently – clever 1500-piece cartoons by a Dutchman called Jan van Haasteren and innumerable tricky ones by an outfit called Wasgij? (the picture on the box isn’t the puzzle you make, hence the back-to-front name!). Through one of those community websites, my wife found another good lady willing to take 10 percent of these desirable things off her hands for a ... read more

Geo: 51.0787, 1.17409Yup it does what it says on the tin. Only 5 mins from the CT. Vicky the check in manager was super helpful and friendly. Room prettty good but HOT! We puttered down the M20 only taking a slight detour towards The Dartford Tunnel as I was avidly listening to Cathy's stories about Football suicides....she also recorded a program about Horses in WW1 the other night which was particularly miserable. Any after a scenic tour of The Kent Weald we arrived at the hotel. Good room and very well kept but reminiscent of a well appointed care home. Arthur the whisky policeman has changed teams and now plays for Gin United. The bag of dry roasted peanuts has been attacked and once more we are looking forward to the onion rings and knickerbocker glory ... read more
